Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Cons: "Swiss Air from Athens to Zurich stellar—excellent service, seating, food—but left one hour late due to air traffic. Nearly missed connecting Edelweiss flight—and that flight was just terrible. Passengers behind me constantly kicking, pulling my seat—wouldn’t allow me to put seat in recline position."
Pros: "Nice smooth flight. Also lovely to be offered a drink and food. Although the quiche is not great. Wasn’t nicer last year"
Cons: "Maybe just change the quiche. Very dry"
Pros: "Crew was excellent. Seats were uncomfortable"
Cons: "1.5 hour delay departing put a slight damper on this flight but otherwise it was fine."
Pros: "I was offered to check in my carry on, it was nice."
Cons: "I was told a wheel chair would be available to help me get to Terminal E in Zurich. I had literally TO RUN to catch my connecting flight to NYC since the chair was not their for me in Zurich. I almost missed my flight. I am a 79 years old woman. That was one terrible experience."
Pros: "Swiss is aways good"
Cons: "We were happy with everthing"
Pros: "Crew was kind and gracious."
Cons: "Hand carry was checked 3 different times. Goes to show that Swiss staff doesn’t trust its colleagues to determine if the bag passes muster."
Pros: "The space of the seat is wide. Nice chocolate."
Cons: "First, they announced that they need some passengers to voluntarily give up the booking in exchange for 280 refunds (a slightly higher rate which not worth to do it) and 1 stopover the fight to Rome which will arrive at 22.00 instead (our flight is 17.35). About 15 minutes before boarding time, they announced flight delaying. Around 17.45, they announced gate changing from B to A which located at opposite side of the the airport so all passengers run there because of everyone afraid that their booking might be canceled because no one agrees to give up. At both gates, many people try to jump in the queue which no staff comes in the manage the queue. During waiting on the board, the air condition seems to be closed, hard to breathe. Around 19.00, the plane took off the Zurich airport eventually, finish the 1.5 hours delay. The captain announced that it cause by the technical problem of the flight earlier but my thinking it cause from over-booking."
Pros: "Left on time. Quick flight."
Pros: "There was too little space between rows. Sometimes it was too difficult to watch a movie because the screen was too close to my face."
Pros: "Service and food were good considering it was "plane food". No delay whatsoever."
Cons: "Black box under the front seat. No room for legs. Seat blocked in lower position, impossible to make it stay in upper position. Entertainment wasn't working good: extremely laggy when it was working ... Seats are way too short. You got the neck support into the upper back ... And I am only 1.80m. Overall, I am done with Swiss until they upgrade their planes. Wifi was 99usd for 220 mo ... what a joke. A 20+yo plane for a such reputated company. There was still the ashtrays inside the restrooms."
Cons: "Connecting flight cancelation, didn’t get to go."
Pros: "The TVs we’re newer and had a great entertainment selection available for a 12 hour flight"
Cons: "The seats were a very old style. Not very comfortable. Alcohol was required to be purchase which is not typical in international flights of this length."
Pros: "Good and fast service"
Cons: "The size you allow for the hand baggage is insufficient"
Pros: "We did finally take off for our trip and get to our destination. The movies were tremendous help to pass the time. The food was delicious for hungry tired people"
Cons: "The crews rushed passed you and never offered if you needed further. One cup of soda after all those hours waiting left feeling dehydrated. Crews could have been more accommodating as made me feel like I was inconveniencing them instead of happy to assist me"
Pros: "Easy, quiet boarding and flight, USB port available, audio and sound were working, nice movie selection. Friendly and helpful crew, assisted with cough crisis"
Cons: "Seats from JFK to Zurich were a little bit squeezed."
Pros: "Food was good and staff was nice."
Cons: "Touch screens didn't work very well, poor entertainment selection compared to other airlines, poor sound quality"
Pros: "Swiss airlines is just like a flying ikea store - very sad"
Cons: "Nothing really , seats are terrible , food is bad Zürich is super nice"
Cons: "The airline changed a seat reservation after I paid for it. The Swiss support staff told me on the phone they would call me back. They never called back. I called again and was told the seats are changed and I can’t do anything anymore. The return flight seats also disappeared from the reservation. I had also paid for it. The support staff when I called again put back the seats for my return flight. I tried to check in online. Not working. Tried at least 50 times. Not working. Called the support staff. They told me to call the check in support center. I called the check in support center at least 50 times where mi was told the staff are busy and could not answer the call. I called at 6:00am next day where I was told by the check in support staff that my ticket had an issue which they did not know exactly what was the issue but prevented me to do a check in. I drove more than 2 hours to the airport where finally I could check in but I was told that my return flight seats had disappeared again. They managed to put them back again. I hope this time it’s finally ok. The support staff on the phone told me I could get reimbursed for the seat reservation I had paid for for the on going flight. The Swiss staff at the airport told me there would be no refund. Swiss is terrible"
Pros: "I loved Swiss flights.. its staff and in flight expereince"
Pros: "We flew Miami to Zurich, then Zurich to Rome. The international leg was awesome. The intra-European flight was less impressive. We “self-boarded” which was new to us - and wasn’t explained. The seats were smaller and there was only the drop down screens for every 2-3 rows, but otherwise, for a less than 2 hr flight, it was fine."
Cons: "Boarding wasn’t fully explained for those of us who are not Swiss or German. I slept thru “lunch,” which apparently was a sandwich - but that’s more than many American airlines provide you on similar flights!"
Pros: "Swiss Air is very nice, planes are clean, snacks on board were fantastic!"
Cons: "Why the ridiculous amount of money to check a small bag? For this reason, I would not fly Swiss Air. My fancy sandwich was not worth CHF 50."
Pros: "Swift ride - no frills- the chocolate square was delicious."
Cons: "Getting off directly onto the tarmac with no gate access- glad it wasn't raining!"
Pros: "Delay at airport was awful. Gate was not announced ahead of time. By the time it was everything ok the terminal was closed. Some people appeared to have couches while I did not. Gate was at the end of the empty terminal. Wifi pass expired and no artery was offered even though the flight was delayed. Passengers were made to leave the gate to recheck passports. My bags were searched twice and while I fully support security this was excessive"
Cons: "Provide vouchers in consistent manner. Provide wifi alternatives. Don't use an empty terminal. Offer more toilets and water fountains."
Pros: "Swiss is always a tad nicer than the alternatives"
Pros: "Fast journey despite a short delay it arrived on time."
Cons: "Felt a bit hectic on the plane, possibly due to other passengers being slow to board."
Cons: "I liked everything except the airplane itself, which I hated. I was fortunate enough to get an exit row on my long flight going over; I did not get lucky on my way home. The flights between Zurich and Brindisi were more comfortable than the long haul flights. The long haul flights are abominable and should be outlawed by governments as they are currently configured. The boy next to me literally could not fit his legs/thigh bones in the space provided by his seat. I did okay as I am not tall, until the woman in front of me decided to lean back. It is not her fault, however, though I thought nasty things about her and periodically tried to dig my knees into her back to get her to lift up her seat. The fault belongs entirely to Swiss Air, which chooses to treat human customers as steerage. The only thing that made the experience worse was the impossibility of choosing my seat online for my return because I had only a smart phone with not-great wifi available. Choosing one's seat should not be dependent on having good wifi and a computer, however. It is bad practice to "sell" seat choices. The families around me were not able to sit together because of this shoddy, greedy practice on the part of the airline. It is also not fair, subsequently, that other passengers are faced with giving up the seats they've chosen, or been given, to assist families in sitting together. Honestly, the extent of the greed on the part of airlines nowadays is astonishing. What used to be a thoroughly enjoyable way of traveling has become an ordeal at best."
Cons: "Did not get to make this flight either. Horrible."
Pros: "A snack was actually served on board! With a beer if desired."
Cons: "Change of planes at gate produced some boarding confusion."
Pros: "On time"
Cons: "Engine shut down juast as the safety briefing started but all was good when it started again. A light meal would have been better than yoghurt & biscuits. Staff were very helpful."
Pros: "Excellent service, comfortable, clean, on time."
Pros: "EXCELLENT LEG ROOM"
Pros: "The crew was entertaining and pleasant. The flight was short and easy."
Pros: "easy check-in, fast boarding, one of the few airlines still offers free refreshments on board"
Cons: "not sure of where to queue for boarding for many people"
Pros: "The crew was friendly and very attentive. The food was surprisingly good. I would definitely try to fly SWISS again."
Cons: "Not a big deal, but I missed the vents above the seats."
Cons: "A gap between flights for 20 hours"
Pros: "The crew (and food to a certain degree) are the only things at the moment that represent a bright side of Swiss Airlines."
Cons: "I have flown with Swiss several times. Every single time, I had to run in between my gates to make it to the connecting flight. And in the process of the turmoil and stress of rushing, I have witnessed airport people being extremely rude with passengers who were not at fault that their original flight was late and were merely trying to make it on time. Correspondingly, every single time I flew with Swiss, I never knew whether or not I will get my luggages. Simply put, your organization is poor and your flights are unfailingly late!!"

Pros: "Beautiful new jumbo jet"
Cons: "Changed plane and seats so boarding was delayed"

Cons: "No negatives or anything that caught me off guard."
Pros: "Overall a nice and good flight"
Cons: "Just a detail, my “head holder” (not too sure how it is called) would not hold in position. Also, staff was a bit slow to come after being called, I had to go and ask for water by myself at some point since no one was coming after 15minites of waiting..."
Pros: "Pumpkin soup instead of a heavy entree was welcome and tasty. Breakfast yogurt portion was generous, the granola less so. Accompaniments were good. Butter was not ice cold, thank goodness."
Cons: "Inbelievably chaotic boarding process for Kili to Dar leg. No boarding lanes so had to fight through the crowd. Was able to observe cleaning process at Dar stop, which was cursory and am sure there was no cleaning of seats of those who boarded at Kili."
Cons: "Wifi on klm"
Cons: "It's KLM. What else do you need to know."

Pros: "Customer care was super supportive"
Cons: "Inflight sandwiches"
Pros: "KLM STAFF WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL"
Cons: "SOME CREW MEMBERS WERE ABIT RUDE. THEY NEED TO WORK ON THEIR ATTITUDE"
Cons: "Half the screens were not working - crew were made aware but nothing was done. Vegetarian choices were poor to non-existent ; I witnessed crew insist to a passenger that there were no vegetarian options! They finally cobbled something together for him but not a pleasant experience"
Pros: "Newer plane, crew was amazing, seats were adjustable"
Pros: "Seats were super comfortable, bigger than most planes with extra leg room. Food was excellent and fresh, amazing Dutch cheese sampler was divine. No nonsense staff who had all connecting flight info on hand when we arrived in Abu Dhabi. KLM staff were friendly and efficient. Fabulous airline."
Pros: "Fantastic gate agents!"
Cons: "The food was terrible."
Pros: "Crew was great, very responsive and hospitable!"
Cons: "more lunch choices, especially choices without dairy products."
Pros: "Nice staff and no delay"
Cons: "Instead of crisps maybe a bit of cheese or crackers"
Pros: "The entertainment was amazing"
Cons: "The seats were a bit hard"
Pros: "Nice attention and good food. Plane and seats are confortable"
Pros: "One crew member was very good but all were not very available or checking on people. I had a seat that I purchased and it was very hard to recline I only found out that it did if fact recline it the last hour to hour and a half of the trip! It was a difficult push back to get it to recline"
Cons: "If I knew how to recline my seat earlier. I did try several times"
Pros: "KLM staff is great"
Pros: "The crew was amazing and the food was great."
Cons: "Something did not go right with our booking so it took some work for the airline to get it figured out for us. Thankfully we had left plenty of time. But that was an unexpected stress."
Pros: "Everything was good except for the entertainment consul for one of our seats."
Cons: "One of our entertainment consuls had to be rebooted 4 times and still didn’t work. We gave up asking."
Pros: "the crew was nice"
Cons: "Seat confort on long flights, leg rooms,"
Pros: "The flight arrived a few minutes early."
Cons: "The plane was extremely old and in poor repair. The seats were extremely close together. The inflight entertainment system, wifi and passenger electric outlets were all non-functional. Even the wastebin in the lavatory was full and an extra bag was put on the floor."
Cons: "Faultless handling of weather delay, causing missed connection and flight transfer. A well oiled machine, thank you."
Cons: "At the check in they made me pay 50€ for my luggage. This is really upsetting because from Houston to Venice they didn't make me pay. Either the website wasn't transparent or the lady at the desk made a mistake. Very upsetting, one luggage should be included."
Pros: "Flight duration"
Cons: "Very stingy with the drinks Cramped seats"
Cons: "wasn't able to take the flight since I missed it"
Cons: "I’ve traveled a lot internationally and this was the WORST flight I’ve ever had to endure. I felt like I was being tortured and didn’t sleep at all and so slept when getting into Amsterdam rather than being able to explore the city. I was out $200 for the Airbnb (could’ve stayed in the airport cheaper) and $200 for a dinner cruise I slept through. NEVER AGAIN"
Pros: "Very friendly onboard personnel - I really had kind of homy feeling."
Pros: "Amsterdam airport and Rome airport were as breeze to navigate, even only knowing English"
Pros: "Flying with KLM is a pleasure"
Pros: "punctuality of boarding and flight time"
Cons: "attitude of crew in business class: no sense of true hospitality"
Cons: "Services was pretty weird .. Perse or crew Leader was ok But the assistent Young one was Really bad.. aptitud and not friendly at all."
Pros: "Good flight, very attentive crew."
Pros: "Seats were very comfortable, food was excellent, the staff was very nice, cabin was quite and roomy."
Cons: "No outlets to charge digital devices, and need more bathrooms on board. I was able to sleep most of the 11 hour flight so I did not take advantage of the entertainment."
Pros: "Easy to board and easy flight."
Pros: "Professional crew. Good boarding."
Cons: "No entertainment on board in business. Stale buns - staff unapologetic. Older 737 with uncomfortable seats."
Pros: "Arrived Early!"
Cons: "Left Late :-)"
Pros: "Excellent experience with the cabin crew."
Cons: "Seats on the 777 were too narrow. This 777 had a 3-4-3 seating arraignment, it would have been better with a 3-3-3, similar to a 787 configuration. With the current layout, even with an aisle seat, I was sitting in the aisle. And I am not a large person! The flight was full, so use the 787 and two daily non-stops. For a twelve hour flight, the food was only Okay, could have been better and with a better selection. Meal timing was poor."
Pros: "The last two times we connected in Amsterdam to Humberside our luggage was delayed. This time it wasn’t. The simple things give the greatest satisfaction"
Pros: "The supplied pack of toothpaste/toothbrush"
Pros: "Comfort economy well worth the extra."
Pros: "Of the multiple international airlines I recently flew with, I would have to say KLM was by far the best. Relaxing atmosphere, comfortable seating, great in-flight entertainment, although I have the go-go in-flight data/entertainment plan with t-mobile (highly recommended), the flight included a decent selection of movies, television programs, etc. The food far exceeded typical "airline quality," even for an international flight - and included a fabulous little snack box with locally sourced gourmet and specialty items such as chocolate from Belgium, fine cheeses from France, and crackers from England. Drinks = gratis, and crew was exceptionally attentive and went out of their way to make flight as pleasant as possible."
Pros: "great choice of entertainment content, friendly crew"
Pros: "The flight was delayed due to fog, but the staff was amazingly helpful to make sure everyone got to their destination."
Pros: "Very efficient boarding, fast and professional but warm and friendly. The plane was very clean and quite spacious for a two by two configuration. On time departure and landing and smoothed processing at the other end."
Cons: "Nothing to improve"
Pros: "Efficiency and speed of boarding was acceptable. I have no complaints about that aspect. The Comfort+ seats were worth the upgrade, pretty comfortable and reasonable legroom unless you have a big carry on stowed under the seat in front of you."
Cons: "The first announcement they made to all of us in the economy section was thay they did not have any headphones for anyone but business class. I was told when I booked the seat that the headphones would be complementary. So I did not bother to bring any assuming they were going to keep their word; I figure I'd make it work and watch a movie without sound. If that isn't bad enough midway through my nine hour flight my monitor went out and would not turn back on."
Pros: "Everytime she passed she was hitting me or I had to hold my drink so that she wouldn't knock it off"
Cons: "The fact that there are different airline carriers for one flight is hard. In my second flight they made me check a bag which was considered a carry on during my first flight"
Cons: "Be honest"
Cons: "Need to reduce waiting hours at gate"
Pros: "Fast and easy on time flight from PMO to FCO"
Pros: "Helpful staff especially with disabled access."
Cons: "Not seated together with my wife despite booking months ago. Very cramped conditions on a very full flight meant it was uncomfortable Bought our own food onboard as realised everything was charged for. Even water."
Pros: "This flight issues were so plentiful they provided me with knowledge on how not to run an airline."
Cons: "5 X delays, Incompetent pilot, No organisation of ground crew 2.5hr late"
Cons: "So disorganized. Lots of staff but only one worker. The only staff member that was helpful was the lady at the check-in desk."
Cons: "The flight itself, the process to get a boarding pass and the fact we were charged for a boarding pass. Not specified tonprint out ahead of time, no reminder email. Very uncomfortable"
Cons: "2 hours delay"
Cons: "The check in process was extremely slow and the line up was very long with only 2 crew members checking people in"
Pros: "Efficient service on board."
Cons: "Service slow on the ground but not terrible. The person who handled the bags was efficient but a miserable person and rude. That is not necessary! I am referring to checking the bags at the check in and check bag counter in Catania."
Pros: "Got home."
Cons: "They managed to mangle the queuing in the terminal, getting everybody on theit feet and I need the queue 20 minutes before boarding started and then have us standing in a queue on the stairs for ten minutes. The flight was delayed an hour or so, and pass Nebraska then asked to take their seats quickly as if they had caused the delay. The crew were tired but polite. Standard Ryanair fight, really, run for the airline’s convenience rather than the passengers’ comfort."
Pros: "Efficient service that was on time. There was no food or entertainment but that was expected. I like how everyone cheers when we land!!"
Cons: "When check in took place we were kept in a dark, cold, wet & windy covered area for about 10/15 minutes before being allowed to board the plane. This is really unacceptable in this day & age."
Pros: "Cabin bag size restriction is just under US standard. Cost us almost double the flight cost to check them at the gate. Won’t ever use them again. Don’t be sucked in by their low fares, they’ll get it back and more."
Cons: "Horrible and intentionally deceptivebaggage policy"
Cons: "Being charged $50 a bag was not cool when the tix only cost $22"
Cons: "They charge extra for everything. First off you will get charged 50 euros if you don't print out a boarding pass before arriving at the airport. Then you will be charged if you want to pick a seat or carry on a bag. You will be put on a bus to get to the plane then climb stairs to board. It takes forever to claim your bag."
Cons: "1. I brought a trolley according to the specifications in the web page and the message sent to me. They claim it was too big, even though it did fit into the box they use to measure the luggage, saying that it fitted too tight, and insisted on my paying an extra 50 euro. 2. They purposely split family members in the hope that people will pay extra to sit together. We did it on the first leg, but then managed to switch seats without extra cost in the second leg. It just required several people switching around."
Pros: "Boarded from gate beside the executive lounge."
Pros: "The price was cheap, as long as you don't add any extras (like choosing your seat)."
Cons: "You need to check in before you arrive at the airport otherwise you'll be charged FOR CHECKING IN. Also apparently it is normal for passengers to line up at the gate an hour before boarding, apparently because there is not enough overhead space for everyone. So unless you pay extra (no surprise there) to board early, you'll be standing in line for a good hour. I like a cheap flight as much as the next guy but Ryanair just takes it too far."
Cons: "Ground staff made final boarding call too soon. Had to rush from the lounge only to find no passengers had left the terminal steps to walk to the plane to board."
Pros: "The crew traveling out of Rome was pleasant is the only thing positive I can say."
Cons: "-we paid extra for priority boarding and did go through the line first to board the shuttle to the plane but then they had everyone else from the overbooked plane crowded like sardines into the same shuttle. It was a waste of money. -traveling to Rome on Ryanair we took samsonite carry on luggage onto the plane with no problems. Leaving Rome we were told to recheck our luggage size. The wheels stick out a little and they made us pay 100 Euros to check our bags. Once on the plane we saw many passengers with luggage and bags much larger than our own and did not have to pay to have them checked. We were the only Americans on the plane. -The seats do not recline and are at a 90 degree angle which is very uncomfortable for a 3 hour flight. -the crew traveling to Rome was very rude. -the seats were dirty with food and crumbs before I sat down and there was trash and food on the floor. It is as if the plane is not cleaned routinely."
Pros: "There was not a lot to like"
Cons: "I think standing in line for so long before boarding is ridiculous. Also, according to the gate staff my husbands bag ,which was smaller than mine, required a baggage fee as did mine. €110! On the return flight my husband was able to get his bag through and it fit just fine. He noticed mine would have fit as well. But another €55 for mine. Not much of a bargain."
Cons: "The whole checking in process was ridiculous!!! You can only check in on your phone otherwise everything is fee. There are no self check in computers. I'm flying international so don't always have wifi available. Charged to check in my luggage. Which is horrible. It's not even a flat fee for the luggage it's by waeight and I had to go back and forth to a different counter for weight, then to pay, then back to drop off the luggage. One person at the counter should be able to do that one transaction.. it's such a waste of time. I will never fly this airline again."
Pros: "The flight was basic, without added perks such as a screen on the back of the seat in front of you, but it also got us to Rome safely. For that, I thank you."
Cons: "The flight was delayed one hour by an unknown issue and boarding staff did not communicate at the gate. Some of the passengers were boarded then the rest of the passengers were left standing in line at the gate for a prolonged period of time. Boarding staff did not address the passengers while we waited. We did not know how serious the issue was while we waited, if we were going to be allowed to board, or if the flight was going be cancelled. Just before boarding the issue was attributed to a passenger from the previous flight who was in a wheelchair and required assistance. Would have been nice to know while we waited."
Cons: "Marketing services"
Pros: "Nothing, flying with this airline is a total NIGHTMARE!!!"
Cons: "The people at the counter is very rude and inflexible, they do not help you in anyway and they just want to charge you all the fees they can in a very disrespectful way! As customers we should not pay super high extra fees for checking in at the airport. When we are traveling, we don't always have wi fi access, specially in London, so we were unable to check in online, causing us to have to pay 50 pounds per person plus 35 per bag. I would never recommend this airline to anybody, not even to my worst enemy. This is a thief company, robbing you the money you try to save by flying with them!!!!"
Pros: "We flew Rome to Barcelona and we're scheduled to come back to Rome and then fly back to the states. Besides being able to change our flight to go from Barcelona back to the states (with Norwegian) due to changes in plan, we would have considered booking through another airline. Yes, it really was that bad! Food was fine but you have to pay extra for all of it."
Cons: "My bag touched the top of the bag screening box for carry-on but otherwise fit and would have fit FINE in the overhead compartment. But NO. I got to pay €50 instead and have them check it. Literally for touching the top but still fitting inside fine. Worst legroom ever. Terrible. I had a middle seat and elbows digging into me on both sides. Awkward! Online check-in automatically selects for one person to be in the front and one person in the back unless you pay more to sit together. Unless you pay the fee you cannot sit with someone you're traveling with. Bathroom broken on flight and only one stall available. Long wait! No pouches in the seat in front of you-- kind of annoying... Staff seemed burnt out and ready to get off the plane. I totally could empathize. Maybe it was because we were heading to Barcelona, but major party crowd who was pretty rowdy on the flight. People standing in the aisles blocking the flight attendants, people sitting on each other's laps some and being loud-- kind of like being on a party bus. Will for sure be telling friends to avoid this airline no matter the price-- not worth saving a few bucks for the discomfort and hidden fees. DON'T FLY this airline if you have kids. Your 5 year old will probably get a middle seat at the back of the plane while you're in the front unless you want to pay extra for everyone to sit together. DON'T FLY this airline if you have American sized carry on luggage. They don't care about your American sized luggage. Whatever the baggage guidelines are, subtract some because that's what they REALLY mean. Get the tiny hard case Euro suitcase if you want to carry on a bag. Otherwise the fee is very high! DON'T FLY this airline if you are over 6 feet tall or have long legs. Ok, they let you stand most of the flight anyway. You'll feel better on another airline. If you can spend an extra 15, do it and AVOID this one."
Cons: "I didn't like that the originally fairly cheap price became higher and higher to provide minimal comfort and service. 30-35 euros per bag, paid ahead of time, is a ridiculously high price to charge in addition to the flight cost. Middle seats unless you are willing to pay more. Not even a drink on the plan unless you are willing to pay. etc etc. It is EXTREMELY inconvenient not to provide a paper ticket. I was unable to print a boarding pass as I was away from home. At the check-in I was not given a paper boarding pass, and then when I got to the entrance area, my phone would not work to show the boarding passes electronically. Ryan Air's website was impossible to navigate to find my boarding passes, taking me literally about a half hour to figure out. This delayed our entry tremendously. On the flight out from Barcelona to Rome my son was allowed to carry on his skateboard plus one small other carryon. On the flight back, he was NOT allowed to take the board through security, and was told he was too late to check the board. This turned out not to be true, but we were not informed of this at check-in, again seriously delaying our boarding. Luckily we had arrived at the airport way too early, and this worked to our advantage given Ryan Air's incompetence. The next day we flew home on Swiss Air - what a pleasant difference to fly on a real airline! No issues, lots of help, etc. etc."
Pros: "Lots of legroom. The crew was very nice and friendly."
Cons: "The plane was late and boarding was delayed by an hour and a half which caused us to pay a late check in at our hotel. Boarding was not an easy, seamless process. They made me put my backpack up top, but at least it gave me lots of legroom. Having a mandatory check in several hours before your flight to avoid a fee for "normal" check-in seems not customer friendly."
Cons: "First they asked us to be at the airport 3 hours before the flight, sadly the staff did t arrive and didn't open the ticket counter until 2 hours before the flight. Secondly, you need to print your boarding pass prior to arriving. I did my check in online and paid for a checked bag which what's $58. The employee asked to see the boarding pass on my way phone, obviously it wasn't pulling up this time. We had to pay 15€ per ticket just to print them. That to me is rediculous. The on the flight, they will not take any credit card that isn't European and they are the first airline to accept cash onboard. Overall our experience was horrible. You would think after making us wait in line for over and hour they wouldn't charge is to PRINT the tickets. This airline is perfect for someone traveling by themselves with only a carry on and having access to a printer."
Cons: "Awful experience. Could not print boarding passes online and tried to pull them up at the airport, but there was no internet connection. Staff was incredibly rude and tried to make us pay $50 to print on site. Finally downloaded the passes (which, by the way, we had to obtain at least 24 hrs in advance - an easy email to miss). "Priority boarding" (also paid extra for) was a joke. Everyone had to get on a bus to arrive at the plane, and no order was kept, so it was basically a free-for-all to board the plane (lots of flying elbows). As a result, the overhead space by our seats (second row) was filled and we had to put our bags much further back (again defeating the purpose of "priority boarding"). Upon arrival to our destination, there was zero indication that our checked bag would be at completely different terminal. It took going through lost and found and 2 information folks to find the correct baggage claim area (and another go through security). All in all, a terrible experience. Not worth the extra $$ we may have saved. AVOID!!!"
Cons: "I was charged 55 Euros for the same luggage accepted from Rome to Palermo by Ryanair. The door man was determined to overcharge me no matter what.Since the flight was max, half the suitcases where shipped direct so his overcharge didn't matter.I am Italian/American and I was singled out and U will never fly Ryanair again. You get me one time and I get you 10 times. That one suitcase was more than half the cost of the flight. I do not like being ripped off. You should be ashamed of your strong armed tactics. Not Happy Sam Morreale."
Pros: "The price was the best thing out of this whole experience. Two tickets from Barcelona to Rome were 44 euros. If you check-in online it's free otherwise you have to pay 45 euros at the airport. Also if you stay within the baggage limit you don't have to pay for the luggage allowance. We didn't pay to pick seats and we were sit next to each other (most likely because we check-in online a day before)."
Cons: "Boarding was slow and chaotic. Very cramped seats. You are literally sitting on top of each other. Also, the plane was very hot. They don't give you any snacks. If you want anything to eat or drink you have to purchase it. At times the crew ignored passengers. If you are looking for comfort and friendliness this is not the airline for you."
Cons: "We had a 5 hour delay and were given absolutely no information. No one came to tell us what was going on, and we had to run all over the airport to find someone who worked for Ryanair to try to find help. Even when we finally located the "customer service" desk, they had no idea what was going on and were unable to help us. All they could offer was a "lunch voucher" but they sent us to the wrong café, which didn't know what we were talking about. Beyond this, the hassle of trying to figure out how much your luggage weighs while you are traveling (we had no access to a scale) isn't worth it. Would NEVER fly this airline again."
Pros: "Comfort and crew was good"
Cons: "Not being able to have mobile boarding pass is stressful.. almost missed flight due to communication while checking in. I would not like to fly this airline again through Europe due to this inconvenience. Very disappointed and will choose EasyJet next time."
Pros: "got to Rome 5 hours late"
Cons: "This flight was about the 5th leg of our European trip. I attempted several times to complete the early check in on the website so that we would save the fee of checking in later at the airport but I was unable to. We left our hotel 4 hours prior to the flight departure because the metro ride was 1 hour to the Barcelona airport. Next, we waited in line at the airport and were then told to go wait in another line and pay 50 euros each for the airport check-in. Then, our flight was delayed so we got to spend a whole day of our vacation in the Barcelona airport! What a waste of valuable time for us. Next tour of Europe I will gladly spend up to $400 more for a reliable flight on a different airlines. Time is more valuable, especially vacation time!"
Pros: "The crew knew no better. But everything from check in to boarding was miscommunicated, chaotic, nickel and dining and overall aggravating to say the least. I will never fly this airline again."
Cons: "Please See above. Non disclosed extra fees. Zero sense of customer care or hospitality. Stressed crew. A sense of chaos that does not make one feel safe nor secure when flying."
Cons: "Tardiness! I have taken 2 different flights and BOTH were late! Also, the terminal is located a large distance from the main terminal AND finally, you r not told your gate number until less than an hour before. UNACCEPTABLE. I do not want to wander and shop in the stores and restaurants. I want to go directly to my gate and sit and read or text. The baggage limit is a giant money grabber as well. You folks are gouging your customers."
Pros: "The price"
Cons: "The comfort of the plane, it was over crowded with no air on the plane. Getting on and off the plane took entirely way to long."
Pros: "The flight was fine"
Cons: "They charge you for everything and it's outrageous, if you don't check in before and print or have the boarding pass on your phone, they charge you $45 euros!"
Pros: "I liked that it got me where I wanted to go. The staff was nice."
Cons: "I had to jump through hoops to print a boarding pass even though I had Ryanairs app with a mobile boarding pass. 3 hours of my Sat and Sunday in Barcelona were spent searching for an open copy/print shop. Would have been nice to know more than 48 hours before my flight. I get to the airport after not finding a print shop, expecting to pay through the nose for them to print the tickets for me and they say I didn't even need it. They supply the boarding pass. Wow. The boarding is a joke. They don't board in zones, so the line was literally 180 people long. I wasn't even in the back of the line and it still bothered me. Now let's get to the plane, again, staff and pilot were great. The seats have NO leg room. I have long legs and it was miserable. No seat back pocket to put things. No recline on the seats. The aisle way sagged everytime someone walked past me, leaning my seat toward the aisle. I know, I know, you get what you pay for. This flight I paid for a lesson. That lesson being never never never ever ever ever fly Ryanair again. I would gladly pay a little more money to save my poor knees from being in that position again."
Cons: "My 81 year old father was asked at the final hour to measure his carry on luggage right before loading the bus on the tarmac to take us to the plane. They had already looked at it at check in. They pulled him out of line after he handed over his passport and then told him they were going to charge him for his carryon because it was too big. He place it in the measuring device and it fit so it was not too big. They ended up not charging him but the experience was very unpleasant."
Pros: "I was made to pay for my carry on bag ostensibly because it was too large. The person ahead of me and the person behind me in the line had the same size bag and were not charged for their bags. The employee definitely had an anti-american attitude. I never want to fly on this airline again. Boarding and disembarking from the plane was like the great wildebeest migration on the Serengeti. No thank you."
Cons: "2 days before our flight we received an e-mail telling us to pay for our bag or we would have an excessive charge. Also, if we didn't print off our boarding pass we would pay a 17 euro fee for each ticket. It's a bit hard to print things while on vacation. This airline is LAME."
Pros: "no hassle at boarding"
Cons: "The flight was delayed an hour but we were not told once about any delay. They had us stand in line at boarding time and then wait for forty minutes. They did not address the delay until the end of the flight."
Pros: "Flown many times, no frills but they get you to your destination."
Cons: "Changed the gate in the last 5 mind before the gate closed - shreds the nerves when you are catching an international flight!"
Pros: "The plane arrived on time to Rome. That's about it."
Cons: "Not much TO like. The biggest problem was having our luggage LOST for 90 mins after arriving at Rome. How does the plane lose our luggage on a DIRECT flight? And in that time items disappeared from one of our suitcases. Specifically, $60 U.S. And a set of Bluetooth wireless earphones. My fault I know for putting cash in a checked bag, but I KNOW they were in there when we left Barcelona. Just a huge lack of respect by their employees. But having to wait 90 mins to retrieve our luggage was just uncalled for. Also, having the flight crew acting like street vendors trying to sell items during the flight was very low class. I know you get what you pay for, but it felt very cheesy and unprofessional to have them moving thru the plane hawking wares."
Cons: "I arrived at the airport 2 hours early to make sure I had plenty of time to find my way around. I found out 45 minutes before my flight that it was delayed 5 hours. They apologized and offered us a $5 voucher for food/ non alcoholic beverage. $5 is like maybe 35% off a meal without a beverage. I wouldn't have even eaten there had it not been for the delay, so I ended up spending more money there to get some dinner. 7 hours in a small airport without things todo makes for a very long day. It also would have been nice if the airport had charging stations for your phone and electronic devices."
Pros: "Crew was nice. Great landing. Took off a half hour late but landed only seven minutes late. Not bad at all!!"
Cons: "The arriving plane was late, which is understandable and not an issue. However the airport boarding crew insisted on boarding us even though the plane wasn't at the gate yet. We all stood in a hot gangway, then stood on a stairwell to the tarmack (again without air conditioning) while the crew cleaned the plane. During this time, people who didn't pay for priority seating were making their way to the front of the lines that caused some pushing and was unfair to my wife and I who paid for priority seating. That whole process should have been handled better."
