The lack of communication I received from Aer Lingus, and the length of time it took for me to get the luggage was a bit ridiculous. I was never told what happened to the luggage and I was given the timeline to receive my luggage within 24 hours. Well it took over 48 hours to get the luggage. I was given specific timeframes to call the Shannon Airport Aer Lingus luggage desk, which I followed. Had to leave a message every time, and not once was it returned. The only communication I did get was calling the Shannon Airport directly and working with their employees. I could tell they were frustrated with me, which is completely understandable, because they weren't the appropriate people to communicate with. I was just very disappointed in the customer service."
Pros: "Entertainment system did it work well. Controls were slow and difficult to navigate and graphics were poor. The audio was poor and did not work at all the last 3 hours of the flight."
Cons: "The extra charge for seat selection for an aisle seat added $50 each way (NYC to Dublin and connecting with Munich) which made the cost more than anticipated. This should be more clear when booking, because it was a surprise. It was appreciate to have no charge, however for carry on + one checked bag."

With the delay finding the counter we almost missed getting through passport control and needed the airport staffer to get us ahead in the line to make the flight. A tense start......."

One liquid with each meal. If I had known I would have bought water at the airport before boarding."
Pros: "Flight was delayed 40 mins because Aer Lingus was unable to meet departure time and Air Traffic Control couldn't fit them into the departing flights rotation outside of their originally scheduled time. As a result, the airplane was stuck at the gate for 30 minutes. The rest we spent taxiing to what seemes the furthest end of the airport. The airplane hadn't been cleaned in a while as was evident by extremely sticky and smelly tray tables in our row."

Seats had not been assigned despite my previous assurance from EA customer service folks, and special meal requests for my wife and child had not been added to our booking record. Calling Aer Lingus almost always requires you to hold 30 minutes before anyone answers. Again, I suspect they are just as disinterested in helping customers as the ground personnel."

Since the airport I was in didn't have an Aer Lingus desk, I spent an hour on hold with Aer Lingus. I never spoke to a single person. Online there existed an option to change to a later flight, which would've cost €350 per ticket (I paid €160 per ticket originally). When I arrived at an airport with an Aer Lingus desk, they said there was nothing they could do for me and I had forfeited my tickets by not showing up on time. Long story short, this a second rate company with terrible customer service and support who are willing to take your money without offering anything in return."

I finally found what was needed (after being sent through the line and patted down this time!) and I ran back to the gate to be the last person on the plane. It was nerve wracking to say the least. Also my son's video touch screen was not working properly. I realize that it is hard to keep these operating well, with all the use they get, but it was annoying as this happened on the flight over as well."

Cons: "The ‘third world’ arrival handling by IAD. Ragged transporters. No intercom service or effort whatsoever to advise pax of apparent problem at main terminal. Turned off transporter engine and left us on the tarmac breathing diminishing air in the module and wondering what was going on. Mobile passport service ‘not working’ at jam-packed immigration. Luggage retrieval frustrated by problems or incompetence and finally located at an undesignated conveyor area. No kudos to IAD. All kudos to Lufthansa/UAL. One Exception was my ‘by chance’ immigration agent who for the first time ever for me at IAD said “welcome home” as he waved me on."

I get that they want to make money but that’s pushing it too far. I sat next to someone who was also traveling with someone else. That lady’s companion came back and told her the seat next to her was empty. By then everyone was already settled in. Is it really worth the £8 for two people? I’m sorry but that’s just petty."

Cons: "Gate attendant was very rude and charged me for an extra checked bag even though my bag fit into the sizer and I measured it before coming. He looked at it for two seconds and did not even put the bag all the way in the sizer. I tried arguing and he would not listen to me at all and just said “I’m done talking about it, either pay me or we will leave you here”. So I guess it’s their policy to hold you at ransom if your bag is even close to not fitting. Even worse, the plane was about 40% full and there was no shortage of room on the plane. They are crooks!"

Cons: "Small and uncomfortable airplane. No organization for boarding. They charge a 50€ fee if you don’t check in online, but the online app also purposefully separates passengers so you have to purchase seats together. So many fee charges not worth the aggravation."
Pros: "The flight boarding was delayed by 45 mins originally, which was added 15 mins onto then half an hour when we were then we were all very badly moved to another area when I say very badly, we were given poor instructions and me and some other passengers almost ended up on the wring flight. After we finally got to where we were supposed to be half hour was said that came and gone then another 15 mins when we were moved back to boarding area. Another half hour finally got boarded then and after this was the usual great Ryanair experience."

Pros: "There is a large lounge at the gate at Gatwick that the passengers could have been checked into prior to boarding commencing, but this was not used. Instead, A large queue was in place for over 40 minutes and once boarding commenced, as many were checking cabin bags into the hold, boarding took about 30 minutes, delaying the flight by 30 minutes"
Cons: "Ryanair boarded the plane only for us to be stuck inside a dirty stinky tunnel with no plane at the end of it. Crying children, moaning kids, no air conditioning, for about 1.5 hours. Ryanair as a company KNEW they'd be delayed, yet they board us into a disgusting tunnel to sit on the floor with no toilets no water nothing. We then board but at this point I was deathly ill and Ryanair didn't take care of us at all with any free refreshments like they should have for being late. Disgusting service. Won't be flying with them ever again this happens way too often."

Pros: "There are many horror stories on the web about flying RyanAir, so I expected the worst. My wife and I flew RT from Dublin to Koln. Although we carry on on all other airlines (in the US), we paid extra to check our carry on bags because of the Ryanair website, which sounded VERY strict about bag size and threatened to charge 50E or something per bag if ours were too big. Turns out all the other passengers had the same huge carry-ons as always. I probably wares the bag fee. Ryan requires you to print boarding passes before you get to the airport or they will charge 50E per person to print(!). The boarding process is a cattle call, but most people are polite with little shoving. The seats on the plane are hard and don't recline. All in all, we saved money and the flight was OK. Just know what to expect."

Cons: "I don't like the factory-"get em out, get em in" mentality. We were lined up and put outside before the plane was even de-boarded from its last flight. We watched (in the freezing cold) while the plane de-boarded and I'm thinking.....aren't they even going to clean the plane? I'm sure they go around and pick up trash but there is no way they would have time to clean the trays. Then we were whipped into the plane. The seats were the smallest I have EVER sat in. It was almost impossible to keep your arms off the arm-rests. I hate that you are penalized if you don't have a printed boarding-pass. We almost didn't as the web-site was down the day before we flew and we ALMOST couldn't get our boarding passes printed - due to no fault of ours. When we called to say the web site was down, there was NO HELP or understanding. Not sure I want to fly with Ryanair again."

Cons: "We could not print the tickets. Called Ryan they said just print at the airport. We arrived 2 hours before our flight and were told go back to the machine, and print tickets. We were charged 15 euros x 6 tickets. The agent said, "you should have been here 3 hours early to avoid the charge." Probably will not fly with them again. Why wouldn't they mention this when we sat on hold to tell them we could not get the tickets to print??"
