The van that we rented was really nice! It was clean, very comfortable, and great on gas! If I need to rent a van or car again, I would definitely use Alamo!

I had reserved a mid-size SUV. My arrival at MYR was at 5pm. there were no mid-size SUV available. I had accidentally left my phone at home in KY so needed a car with GPS. I was told by the older man manager that they did not have GPS in their cars. Except for one which was a large SUV KIA Telluride. I am a small women and did not want to drive that exceptionally large tank of a car. Finally a young woman named Melissa came to my rescue and offered to print out the directions so I could find my way to my sister's in the dark. A huge thank you to the young woman who took the time to help me ...but I still did not get the car I had reserved and had to take a smaller car that could not accommodate my ailing sister and brother-in-law, which is why I was even in MYR in the first place. I will not rent from Alamo ever again.

I had a reservation from February 20 to February 22, 2024 at the Myrtle Beach International Airport (Itinerary # **********3296 Confirmation K7622746054). I arrived at the Thrifty Car Rental Counter around 10:15 AM on Tuesday, February 20th. There were 2 customer service agents behind the counter. One was helping another customer. The other one was on her phone. I stood there waiting for several minutes and finally the one that was on her phone looked up and asked if she could help me. I told her that I had a reservation, gave her my name as well as my driver's license and credit card. She proceeded to place my driver's license into a machine. She tried this several times. She made the comment that it wasn't reading the driver's license. She then went to another machine that was where the other agent was working and tried that a few times. It still would not work. She then went into the back office. I assume she was trying another machine there. Came back out tried the machine at her workstation again. It would not work. She asked me if I had my passport. I told her that I did not routinely carry my passport on domestic flights. She then told me she would not be able to rent me the vehicle that I had reserved. I asked her if there was an alternative plan that she could use in case the machine would not scan my driver's license. She told me there was not. I asked if I could speak to a manager. She told me that I could not. I asked what my alternatives were. She told me I would have to rent a vehicle from another car rental counter. She did tell me that since Thrifty, Hertz, and Dollar are all the same company, I would run into the same problem. As it was clear, she was not going to go out of her way to help me, I proceeded to the Budget/Avis rental car counter. They were able to rent me a vehicle. However, it cost me over three times what I had rented the vehicle for at Thrifty. I find it very difficult to believe that there is not an alternative plan that she could have pursued check my driver's license when the machines don't work. And the fact that I was denied to speak to a manager, further underscores her lack of providing customer service. As a result, I will never rent from Thrifty/Hertz/Dollar. In fact, I had a reservation with Hertz in March at Myrtle Beach International Airport. I cancelled it and rebooked with Budget/Avis. Based on this experience, if Thrifty/Dollar/Hertz were the last rental car company on earth, I would walk.

Then my husband 72 who had hips replaced had to get step stool and then no cover on pick up bed for belongings. I told the lady no pickup. 1.5 hours to get the car once in line at budget/Avis counter. Way understaffed, way to old computer system. The fast track was to unfair to the other customers in line. Budget has to invest in the company. Same to be said at MSY counter. Update the corporate computer system to swipe your driver lic and credit card and get your car that easy. Less employees needed too!!

I was charged an extra $59 because I used a debit card. I was told that because I had a debit card and not cc they had to physically speak to my insurance agent...at 6pm on a Saturday. They would not accept my insurance information or declaration page either. Very disappointed, will never use again.

Wanted to extend my rental but could not get in contact with the right people to extend it. Spoke with someone who took my information and said that the enterprise where my drop-off was scheduled would contact me about extending. She said they would email me but I never heard from them so I just dropped the car off without extending my rental. Was very hard to speak to an actual person about the car instead of just an automated message.

The check in at Myrtle Beach was quick and efficient, Doug was excellent and the car was in great condition. Unfortunately the hurricane interrupted our vacation but the ability to change return locations without additional charge made it possible for my family to get home safely. Thank you to Doug.

Cons:

The staff in Cleveland were unable to help me with the issues on the final amount due, but Doug from Myrtle Beach called and resolved the issue in a matter of minutes as well as sending a confirmation email within minutes! Definitely the perfect employee.

The registration people were nice, but they had a new computer system and it took about 45 minutes to get our documents.

Cons:

They didn't have the vehicle I had requested and upgraded me to a truck, which was enormous to park and had no place to lock our luggage. The truck smelled like someone had smoked in it.

Pickup took an hour. We waited in line and gave all the same info we gave online to the counter all over again. Then we waited outside for 30 minutes for the car that we had reserved well in advance to be cleaned. The car was not clean inside or outside. We were in line before another party and we saw them get the car first. Was not the person outside's fault.

Drop off in Myrtle Beach was much better than pickup (Orlando); Employees at Myrtle Beach airport were very nice, friendly and professional; overall, the return process was excellent.

Cons:

It is a small airport so smaller operations; Indications for returns are clearly indicated to get there but once on parking lot, they have only 2 parking spots dedicated to returns, took me a few minutes to actually find the correct spots and employees in charge

Rental itself was great, clean, ran great. Great rental.

Cons:

On pick-up, they said I had booked the wrong location even though my reservation was for the correct location, which I showed them. The person ahead of me in line had the same problem. Also, when I dropped off the rental they tried to charge a weekly rate even though I had spoken with the agent at pick up about converting it back over to a daily rate after the rental was up (which was reflected in my contract). Although a manager corrected the problem after I showed her proof, the initial agent was incompetent and did not know what he was doing. The manager had to show him twice. Also, the parking attendant was rude at drop off until he realized that I was correct. Would probably not use national through kayak again- too much of a hassle when you are traveling!

I like that I got a free upgrade and a reduced rate from the woman working the desk at Myrtle Beach International Airport. I presented her with my paperwork and the airport was the WRONG airport in Myrtle Beach (the private airport - Not MYR which is the airport code for the International Airport). The whole booking had to be cancelled, the insurance had to be cancelled and everything had to be rebooked.

That the airport code for Myrtle Beach (MYR) is the incorrect booking code to get a car rental! Who came up with that idea?!
