Nice staff, didn't pressure upsell the insurance like I was worried about. Drop off in the city center was not as easy as expected, due to the lack of parking instructions. Value was outstanding.Need to provide clear instructions that if you are dropping off at the lower Drumconda location, there are no parking spots in front of the office. You need to pull into a bus lane and park there, which isn't ideal, but workable.

Staff when doing the paperwork to pick-up the car more helpful & friendly. Staff at the actual car pickup lot less helpful & one a bit dismissive when you asked questions. Staff when dropping off the car a bit unfriendly & seemed a bit irritable. If you are going to Ireland, do your homework about what your personal auto insurance will cover (call them & let them know where you are going) & also call your credit card company to see if they have primary or secondary insurance when renting the car because many credit card companies don't there

Pickup and drop off was easy. This company essentially forces you to purchase full insurance. We traveled to Ireland and rented a car for a few days. I put the rental car on my credit card, and they explained to me that if you don’t buy insurance they will put a 5,000€ hold on my card if I don’t buy insurance.

Having a car in IrelandOnce I got off my plane I had to wait a while to get a budget shuttle to where they keep the cars. Once I got there I waited in line behind maybe 7 people for TWO HOURS before I finally got to checkout with my car. And of course they charged a ridiculous amount of money for everything.

The insurance scam is always an issue, either your have thousands of euro to deposit, or you have to pay more than double the cost of rental to buy unnecessary insurance. When a website sells you a service for 130 € , you expect to pay that, not 470€. Avis would not even accept a credit card from another member of my family because it wasn't the same name. I'd hate to work in these places as the employees must know they are scamming people.

There are much cheaper car rentals Dublin. We rented for a week from another company and needed to add an extra day which they could not accommodate so we did a one day rental with Avis. The male counter person convinced me that it would cost me $39. NOT to have insurance vs $44. To have it. I wanted self insurance but he was insistent to upsell. The cost for a small car for the day was $160. Ridiculous. After researching our previous company we reserved with we realized their reviews were horrid and so we rented a week with Avis. When we got the vehicle at the Dublin airport there was no mention in the car documents ( detailed previous damage discriptions) of a missing front hubcap. For the remainder of the trip, tried to replace it along our route to avoid the replacement cost. Had this been included in the description, we would have been spared significant effort. We did get pressure again at the rental counter in Dublin to add $28. per day of additional insurance but the agent relented when I was adamant. Avis , stop this pressure to buy additional coverage and please be correct and up to date in the damage list you supply with the car at rental. I will say the car was a good one and our second agent was polite and efficient. Also it needs to be made very clear to renters that the car does not get returned ed to the rental location but to the terminal 2 parking garage.

Get off the plane after a 7 hour flight and get a rude attendant telling me the insurance that I had in place did not cover the car. He did his whole speech about always booking on their website to get the right insurance and that you can not book on any other site. It was awful. I had a 4 hour drive ahead of me and wanted to get out of the airport. Ruse and nasty people in Dublin Airport at AVIS and Budget rental. I don't know if true but one person told me that they get a commission on the insurance and that they always tell you that you need the most expensive option and don't back down.

Staff were very helpful at Avis but the insurance fees were outrageous and tripled the cost of the rental. That being said, I cannot commend them enough for how they handled our return of the car early due to COVID-19Quote insurance in advance and do a better job describing luggage space. We did not have enough space for 4 large pieces of luggage in this car

the second car was very good. they helped us at the airport which was a better location. However, the agent that helped us was less than helpful. it needed to be clearer that if you didn't take their insurance they were going to put 7500 euros on your credit card. he was unwilling to provide options. In comparison we dealt with another company in glascow and they provided good alternatives with reasonable costs. A much better experience. The first car they gave us was old and not in good working order. we returned it and got a much better, newer car that worked well.

Great, easy experienceMark was the BEST!! We were sold an insurance policy from a 3rd party that ended up being invalid in Ireland...we never would have known without Mark! He brought it to our attention, helped us confirm this fact with the 3rd party, and helped facilitate our refund with them. He then helped us get a a valid policy, and even upgraded our car to help ease our pain of the day ;) Would recommend!Dirty bathrooms with no toilet paper in men's OR women's bathrooms.

Insurance madnessMy credit card covered rental insurance fully and Europcar asked for an email from my bank/credit card company before giving me the car. I had to call my credit card provider and have them send an email to Europcar. Pretty damn ridiculous. All told, I wasted three hours getting all this sorted, and even after I finally got them what they needed, they put a EURO 5,000 authorization charge on my account, an obscene amount for a one-week rental. Also: There's a 25 EURO airport surcharge that I was never made aware of, and a 35 EURO charge to travel into Northern Ireland, which I also wasn't made aware of until the time of payment. I recommend you book elsewhere, because a Google search tells me that not all car rental companies charge for traveling into Northern Ireland.

Rental Quote and Actual Price and Car NOT THE SAMEThe car was grey.Upon arrival in Dublin we were shuttled to an outside airport location. The quoted vehicle was not available, altho we had reserved it several months ahead. In fact they said Dublin NEVER carries that model (a 9 passenger van). So we were given a smaller (7 pax) vehicle which was way too small for our 6 adults to enjoy for a week. The quoted price was 1/4 of what they ended up charging. We had insurance but they would not accept it and required we pay the Europcar offered policy. We have rented in many other countries without all the insurance demands. We would never have booked with them if the initial quote had been correct as other vendors had just what we wanted. Europcar is a real RIPOFF.

No any insuranceI. Didn't like anything. The booking made on kayak did not include any basic insurance, absolutely nothing, which is illegal. That's why kayak gave me low price. So when i arrived to the airport i was told that i didn't have any insurance. So they cancelled the booking and offered me a car for the same price but with insurance. I will never ever again use kayak and i will strongly recommend never to use it.

The MANDATORY insurance fees are absolutely ridiculous. On-wed scammed into thinking that the car rental fee was $4 per day and the insurance cost, which I booked online was another $30 per day. When I arrived, they forced me to pay all insurances or leave a $1,500 deposit, which I wasn't prepared for. The also require me to purchase the full tank of gas, which was 107 Euro, but said it would be refunded upon return if the tank was full. According to the quote thru Budget/Kayak, at the time of booking, it should have cost me approx 250USD. It ended up costing me over 800USD. I returned the car clean, full of fuel, and not a single scratch. I will NEVER rent thru Budget again, neither overseas or domestically!

The carThey did not have the car size for the amount we reserved. So we were up Sold to a $600 car. Also kayak advertised the car we reserved as $100’dollars for the week and that was not what we were told at time of arrival they said it was $400 and we had to ultimately pay $600 up front. This is the last time I will book a car thru kayak.

I used my credit card’s insurance guarantee, but nowhere in the reservation did it say that to do do ALSO required a letter from my credit card company stating (1) that they cover the Republic of Ireland, (2) they will cover the lace loss if totaled, and (3) the last 4 numbers of my cc account. So at the Europcar desk I had to make that phone call, wade through a few phone trees, then talk to a couple of humans. I did get the letter (great service by my cc bank!) but I was lucky - that approval process may take up to 24 hours. The Europcar desk agent said this happens “quite a bit” with the brokers because you don’t provide the information about what each rental car company requires to use the cc insurance waiver benefits. I suggest adding a link to your process that will take your to the specific rental car company page for their CDW. I did use the link provided for my rental but it did not say I would have to get the letter etc.

Hearing other poeple that were returning cars, definitely recommend getting extra insurance coverage because they were changed a lot for a scratch that may have been there -- they don't do 'walk arounds' on the cars so you can't prove if damage has already been done. Would NOT recommend to anyone.

Nothing really. The rental car pickup is not really "at" the airport. Dierctions to where their shuttle picks you up are non-existent. They tried to get us to rent a GPS, they brought out 3, none worked properly. Didn't take the GPS off the bill. The car was not advertised properly. Too small, sure it could "hold" six people, but forget luggage. Will never rent from them again.

Easy, good valueGreat car, ready when we arrived, friendly staffCar was not full of fuel when rented. We however didn't notice until 30 km away. Called them and sent pic of fuel gauge but never heard back. Had no choice but to return full. No credit was given. Annoying.

Would not recommendNothingAfter traveling from California to visit my family in Ireland ( three flights & 20 hours travel time)- nobody could tell me where the Easirent shuttle picked up from. Finally, I learned There us a legal issue between Easirent & The airport as they have failed to pay service charge for picking up & dropping travelers ioff. When I finally reached them, they hung up on me. When I called back they said they didn't have a vehicle for me despite the fact that I reserved it over five months prior. The representative recommended I contact some of the other rental companies at the airport. as Easirent couldn't help me. Of course none of the other rental agencies had vehicles available at such short notice. One of them informed me that I was the third traveler they met that day with a similar story after Easirsnt failed to provide a vehicle. Sixt was able to accommodate me for a 10 day rental but not that day. I had to take a cab to my parents home & pick up my 10 day rental from Sixt a couple of days later. I wonder how the other two travelers fared? I typically rent from Sixt or Dan Dooley as Invidit Ireland every 6 months. I will never make the mistake of renting from Easirent again

I ordered and paid for an automatic, but they only had a manual transmission. Therefore I had to overpay for the manual they gave me, and said customer service would resolve it. The customer service group has not responded to my messages.

It was a good quality car. No problems with the vehicle. The vehicle we reserved (an automatic) was not available and they were really sketchy on the reasoning. When we called for the shuttle about an hour or so after we had landed (our flight was a bit delayed) they said they were out of automatics because we were late. We ended up taking the manual, and when I asked them what happened while I was at the counter, they said "there were a lot of accidents this week so they sold out of automatics." I said well then that means they weren't all out because I was late, doesn't it? And he got rather flustered. It felt like a bait and switch, and would have been extremely problematic if I wasn't able to drive a manual as the other rental companies were charging 1.5x what I had booked for.

Car hire excess insurance in Dublin

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) & Theft Protection Waiver

Collision damage waiver and theft protection are insurance options that cover renters from paying high penalty fees if the car is stolen or returned damaged. Some Dublin car providers already include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection Waiver into the rental price but not all of them. We recommend always be aware of your coverage when renting a car in in Dublin.

Deductible

Keep in mind that car hire excess insurances often have a deductible clause, which is the amount you’ll have to pay if something happens during the time of your rental. If you want to avoid unwanted surprises, you should consider adding a no-deductible option to your Dublin car rental.

Top tips for hiring a car in Dublin

  • The best way to fully experience the joys of Dublin is by car. You will find renting a car is a much simpler way to get around Ireland’s capital city than relying on its hectic public transport system. Plus you benefit from having freedom to discover the best sights at your leisure. Naturally, you’ll want to visit the iconic Guinness Storehouse, which has free parking on nearby Crane Street. Or further afield, less than an hour’s drive outside the city, you’ll find the wonderful gardens of Powerscourt House in County Wicklow.
  • Less than 20 miles from the city center, Dublin Airport offers excellent opportunities for car hire. When you arrive at the Airport, finding the car hire desks could not be easier. If you’re arriving from a regional flight, you’ll find the hire desks in the Arrivals Hall at Terminal 1, or, if you’re on an international flight, you’ll arrive into Terminal 2 and go to the multi-story parking lot to book your hire car.
  • Firstly, you must remember that everyone drives on the left in Ireland and, as Dublin is a small city, you can expect to navigate much smaller roads. To get the best out of your driving experience in and around Dublin, stick to the main routes and avoid shortcuts, as you may get lost. The city is a rabbit warren of one-way and dead-end streets that can outfox even the most experienced drivers.
  • To save you from traffic jams and gridlock, always avoid the Dublin rush hour between 7:30 am and 9 am, and in the evenings around 6:30 pm. It’s also best not to drive near the Liffey River at these busy times. In the darker, winter months, be wary of fog and mist, which can affect driving conditions, as can the frost on higher routes.
