Dublin Airport is well-connected to Dublin city centre by road and is located off the M1, which leads straight into Dublin. Car hire agencies are all situated close to access ways that lead towards the M1 junction. Perfect if you want to hop in your car and get straight on the road.
  • Dublin is one of Ireland’s major cities and is frequented by a high volume of tourists and business travellers. Due to this heavy footfall, shuttle buses and public transport that connects Dublin airport to the city centre are often crowded. Passengers may have to queue for tickets or to find a seat. If you want to avoid crowds and save time while moving through the airport, car hire at Dublin Airport is a great option for you. Driving into the city can also slightly shorten your journey time compared with shuttle buses, which take around 30min. An average drive from Dublin Airport to the city centre is just over 15min.

  • When returning your car to Dublin Airport, you will need to drive to the Car Rental Returns area, which is located just off the M1 junction, between Terminal 2 and the Long-Stay Car Park. You will see signs for the Car Rental Returns zone as you approach the roundabout outside the airport, heading north on the M1. All car hire branches have parking spaces inside the Returns area, and these are clearly marked to direct drivers.

We had clicked upgrade at the very last option but it took away our automatic car unknowingly (which was more expensive and specifically set) when we did and caused lots of issues. Pickup took forever (roughly an hour), drop off was fine. Car was good, but had to drive a manual on the other side of the road which was not ideal. Upgrade didn’t actually upgrade our car class either.

The price was absolutely extortionate. I paid $750 for the rental in July, which was supposed to be fully paid, and when I arrived to pick up the car, I had all my insurance documents on hand, they charged me another €450, then after that, my choices were, pay €6000 deposit, which I never was made aware of and did not have, or lose the money I already paid, or pay another $1650. These were horrible options at 5am. The car that I thought was going to cost $750, actually cost me $2800. I will never rent a car through Kayak or Sixt again in my life. A disgraceful way to treat travellers coming to visit a country. Ruined my vacation and stripped me of all my spending money for my vacation.

I was pressured hard to buy Budget car insurance. The agent would not let me take the car until I proved my travel insurance covered the car, was large enough, and was valid in Ireland. I had to call the insurance company to prove. it. He challenged me on each point, The cost for insurance would have been 50% higher than the cost of the car. Very unsettling. If I had not experienced this before I would have fallen for their trap. The car was beat up to begin with. The power plug we found out didn't work so couldn't charge phones and devices. There was only one USB port that was hidden. The cruise didn't work. It had about 135000km.

I was not able to get the car I reserved because an additional $3,000 was going to be held on my card on top of the $1,300 that the car rental and insurance (which I was forced to pay) was going to cost. It was the worst car rental experience I’ve ever had and I will only rent from Sixt and Turo moving forward. They are the only companies that always provide a great rental experience and tell you everything up front so you know what to expect when renting the vehicle.

Said don’t have the intermediate car we reserved. Tried to give us smaller car then tried to give larger Volvo with a 700 upgrade price tag. Didn’t give options for insurance just charged after they wouldn’t give options on car I took Volvo and then we went out to car and saw there were other intermediate cars and went back in and had them give me a different car. Would never use hertz again. They try to rip people off in other countries .

There wasn't alot to like. Once we arrived at the Hertz counter we were told that we would have to pay an additional 50 euros a day for insurance which ended up costing almost as much as the vehicle. I couldn't remember after being awake for 24 hours if I had purchased third party insurance and the guy behind the counter was interested in helping find out. I fact, he made sure to advise us that they would require and $5,000 dollar hold if we did have third party insurance. Once we got fleeced at the check out counter we made our way down to the vehicle where the attendant drove the car up, parked it and threw me the keys. Zero explanation on how the vehicle operated, seats stowed or any of the controls worked. Very unsatisfied with the whole experience.

Europcar charged me for a scrap mark on a tire. 220$ charge. The tire is perfectly functional and I showed the guy an image of the scrape pre-existing my rental from images I took before I accepted the car. He ignored them and told me to appeal. I know full well they just wanted more money from me and assumed I wouldn't do anything because I had to travel the same day. I will never use this company again or recommend them to anyone. Horrible company. And to add fuel to the fire they charged a surprise insurance fee of 1700$ at checkout when I picked up the car. They dont disclose this to you when you make a booking on Kayak.

Pick up what a s*** show, it took nearly two hours, despite early check in and pre reservations. After being talked into an upgrade and quadrupling our original price, we set off! Three hours into the drive we broke down, waited over two hours for roadside assistance in the middle of nowhere with a 4 month old baby, and eventually were told to taxi to our accommodations and that a car would be dropped off to us in the morning. Our accommodations had no potable water, and no cell service. We picked up enough groceries for dinner and breakfast the next morning. After hours back and forth of staff denying that they ever said they would drop us off a car and that we needed to cab to the nearest depot (they couldn’t even book us this cab because we were staying rurally, and again, we had 0 cell service), they finally agreed to drop us off a car. In the end, we went over 24 hours with no vehicle, and 12 without water and food due to Europcar’s negligence. The car they brought us didn’t fit our luggage (the reason we had upgraded was so that our car fit our luggage, and had no GPS (another feature of the original upgrade). Never booking with Europcar again! I highly advise against.

We had a 4 hour drive to our destination. After 1 1/2 hrs the low tire light came on, as well as some other service lights. The van almost stalled, would not accelerate a few different times which was obviously a driving hazard. It was an automatic transmission, so this should not have occurred. When are returned the van after we drove back from the far west coast at the end of the trip, the rental staff was not bothered or concerned. The customer service was horrible and so frustrating.

Pretty terrible. Took forever for their “shuttle” to bring us to their sketchy off-site location. Once there they make you sign a pad as they “explain” the rental contract vs letting you read it, and adding their random fees along the way. When you finally get done you realize the cost is more than 5x what your online booking said it would be, so when you try and refuse the car at that point they say, sorry, you signed a contract (that you havent seen yet) and your only option is to take the car or find a way back to the airport to find other options. Just dont do it.

The car was ready, the representative was polite, friendly, helpful, and efficient. The process was fast and we loved the car. Returning it was as easy and efficient as renting it. Thank you!

The car rental company was cooperative But the problem was with Kayak they did not explicitly mentioned that the rate was with out even basic cover so when I went to pick my car up I had to pay for basic cover also which ended up costing me almost double. Will never book again via brokers as they appear cheap but actually they are hiding the fact that insurance is not included.

The insurance situation was absurd. In order to decline their coverage they wanted a 5000 euro deposit and printed paperwork showing you had coverage through some other vendor. The person at the counter acknowledged that our credit card likely provided insurance but was not interested in discussing further. We were just shooed away when we tried to ask questions. This information needs to be clearly explained ahead of time, not on a random cardboard cutout on the desk at time of pickup. Instead you are forced to pay for overpriced third party insurance you don't need.

They would not accept my bank card with no assistance or consideration for my situation as it left me in a very tough position.

It was not made clear when reserving that there were specific restrictions on older renters. Car was not clean. Something was wrong with the air conditioning. Windshield wipers need to be changed.

Upon renting, a hold was placed on my card for a tank of gas. I was told that this would be returned when I returned the car with the tank full, however this amount was never refunded.

Charged us a ridiculous amount of money for a 2 mm scratch on the rim of one tire which we claimed was there when we picked up. We didn’t think it at all significant to report at pick up. And now we are being charged for it which was always there.

The credit card hold amount is very high. It appears that is standard for Ireland. Taking the full insurance is a good idea anyway, and lowers the cost. Service was very good all round.

Totally misleading, quoted $125 for the car then pushed us to take a bigger car and wouldn’t accept the insurance we already had. Total got to almost $1,000 after they added their insurance. Cancelled and went with Budget. Got a very nice car with insurance for $600. Stay far away!

The wait time at Dublin Airport is ridiculous. The staff push you to upgrade services, like adding unnecessary additional insurance, and to pay more for a car with an automatic. They also said they had photographed the damage on the car, but had not photographed all damage, I insisted they photograph the car completely.

I pay in advance for a full coverage insurance and at the counter for check in they told me that they didn’t accept the insurance I hired and charged me a ridiculous amount for a new insurance. They also charged a different price for the rental. The car was all scratched. Other than that, everything was okay.

Charged excess fees that weren’t explained up front. Forced to buy insurance, again, if I had known up front it was a requirement I would have been fine with it. Staff was fake-nice, while continually stating I was either misunderstanding what was originally said, or just plain incorrect/making things up. Let’s face it, we all know the bar starts low rental car companies, but I’ll never use Keddy/Eurocar again.
