We had to wait 2 hours in a queue at the Europcar desk when we arrived in Montpellier to get our car and start our holiday. This was totally unacceptable and avoidable. It must have been known that so many renters would be arriving at the same time to collect their vehicles as most customers seem to have pre-booked and none of the other car rental companies had no queues. There was at times just one Europcar desk manned - mostly just two desks (there were an additional 4 or 5 unmanned desks). Someone needs to do a better job with staffing rotors so there are enough staff on duty. It is unfair to both customers and staff otherwise. The rest of the serivice and the staff were 5-star - friendly, thorough, supremely patient.

I booked a car through Kayak and purchased the Allianz insurance coverage. The booking, however, was through CarRentals and at pickup they could not see I had selected any insurance. This made me nervous so I ended up paying for an additional daily auto insurance through them. I feel like I got ripped off and paid twice for the same thing.

Ok on the whole, but they charged me extra because apparently I didn’t return tank to 3/4 full, though it was above median. Also since I booked Enterprise via Expedia it turned out to be very difficult to 1) get in touch with Expedia and 2) change my pickup time (same day) in Montpellier. Both Expedia and Enterprise sent me to the other party. Impossible from US; same problem in Paris when I got there. Finally Enterprise said they’d do it if Expedia said ok. Too many calls too many intermediaries!

We had to wait for over an hour in a queue of 20 people to collect the car at Montpellier airport. There was only one person on the checkout and hey were not prepared for the number of passengers. We have used Avis before and were very disappointed by the service and are unlikely to use them again.

They slapped on a massive charge for damage, totally out of proportion. They did not email me any report or justification either. Lousy customer service, when I tried to extend a 2 week rental by another week they quoted me a hideously expensive extension, when their own website showed prices 3 * cheaper.
