I opted to refill the gas tank myself, instead of paying for their gas service. I filled the tank less than a mile from drop-off. I even topped it up. After drop-off I received a bill for TWO GALLONS of gas that they claimed they put into the vehicle. There is no way they fit that much gas into that car. Had I not been paying attention, I would've been ripped off. Double check your final email receipt. You may not get it for a day or two.Reviewed 8 Apr 2024

Firstly, Picking the car up was inconvenient. The business card i tried to use could not be used because the chip could not be read. I was told that would be the only way that they could use a card (no swiping the card or even manually entering. So, I used my personal card, while exclaiming my dissatisfaction. Then, first car I picked was absolutely filthy and moved to another car that was less dirty. I went about my way and drove to Ft. Liberty for work and then returned the car a few days later. The return process was much better at least. When I received my receipt, the final charges do not seem in line with what was presented on Kayak, and I asked for a follow up email or phone call to see if I could speak with someone about the matter and still haven't been contacted.Reviewed 25 Mar 2024

The car was old, burned a lot of gas. Drove 10 miles and droped a quarter of the gas tank. I’m pretty sure it had some engine problem. Very expensive for a mediocre car. Never doing business with hertz again.Reviewed 16 Nov 2022

The drop off location should not be used as a selectable location. No one was in the office, no drop off box is present, and when I called to change the location to a safe Hertz location 6 miles down the road, I was charged an extra fee out of my control.Reviewed 6 Nov 2022

Hertz was a nightmare to book with, and they're definitely penny pinching thieves. Modifying a booking is nearly impossible online, and if you try doing it over the phone, you'll get charged an additional 5% of the booking - absolutely ridiculous. If you decide to cancel and rebook because it's easier (AKA actually doable), you're the equally as screwed because even with a full month's notice, Hertz will not give a full refund and will instead pocket $50. The car we picked up was lovely and suited our needs, but they clearly didn't clean properly as there was a half-drank cup of soda in the car, especially concerning when Hertz declares they're doing extra cleaning because of Covid, I'm not convinced. I definitely recommend booking from any other vendor, Hertz is the worst.Reviewed 30 Dec 2021

The car I received was totally substandard. When driven over 60 mph the car felt like it was going to come apart. Very high mileage car that should not be in the fleet of a premium rental car company like Hertz.Reviewed 20 Dec 2021

The option of picking a car of my choice from a bunch of cars in the same class was nice.. The first car we chose the seatbelt lightg would not go out.. Pciked a second and half way through the trip our car started warning us that the keyless fob was at ero battery and be had better do something soon. We spent a couple of hours running down the necessary battery and figuring our how to pry open the case to change the bttery so that we didnt get locked out of our car while attending a wedding and festivities. Other than that the NC RDU Hertz experience was good.Reviewed 19 Oct 2021

Pros:Staff were patient and pleasant.Cons:The car was absolutely filthy inside and out. Apparently they did not have the staff to clean it. The interior was so bad I cleaned it myself that afternoon - smell, everything was covered in accumulated grime; the steering wheel was actually sticky (cloths used to clean came out black). Rented a premium model and it was at least 3/4 years old with dents and scratches. Also it was the lowest type of model in that category. Overall I was very disappointed with Hertz as it should be a premium rental agency. Will not use again as have had far better experience with ‘lower tier’ rental agenciesReviewed 26 May 2021

Pros:Not enough staff to take care of the amount of customers. Long wait when we already had a reservation. Exterior of the car already had damage and was very dirty.Cons:Cleanliness of the exterior; not having the urg to take a pic of every little scratch damage on the car.Reviewed 18 May 2021

Pros:Vehicles were in great condition and staff at final destination finally made our rental satisfactory but getting there with three other rental locations was miserable!Cons:Went to airport location to rent vehicles (2 mini vans - we had 4 kids under 5 who had just flown for 4 hours) - told our rental was at a different location and would have to go back to airport and take a cab there, even though it was just 5 minutes away. Shuttle driver who was taking us back to airport told us that there had not been taxi’s at Raleigh/Durham airport for about 2 years - we would have take a Lyft. Lyft got there and took us to booked location, only to find it had been closed for over a year...it was a body shop, and the very helpful people there told us this happens all the time and that there were phone numbers listed on their now closed office door and we would have to call one of them. Called first one and they would be there in 30 minutes (30 minutes back to their shop to get cars so another hour out of our day). Called second one - said they were closer but only had one mini van. Third location was very rude, laughed and said they were not interested in helping us and to call the first location. Finally got picked up to get to rental location. Great help there - asked if these Hertz locations were independently owned (franchises) and was told no - Hertz owns them all. Asked if the location we booked through was closed why the airport location couldn’t help us and was told they could have. Great service at this rental location, she deducted our Lyft fee and got us on the road in about an hour. If it weren’t for the rental location we finally ended up at, this would have been a total disaster and Hertz would never receive my business again. KAYAK...you need to remove our initial rental location from your list of rental locations.Reviewed 14 May 2021

Pros:I requested an airport car rental, they booked my car for an off-airport location (30 mins away). I would be required to take a $60 taxi (each way) to the alternate location which would not even be open for another 2 hours (which was after the reservation time was booked for). I sat on the phone for almost 2 hours trying to get it corrected. No one was of any assistance, they just kept finger pointing at each other (Hertz & Priceline). Finally someone said they could fix it and came back to let me know that they would simply need to cancel my original reservation and just rebook a new one. That sounded reasonable, until she came back and said that my $160 reservation would now be $589!!Cons:EVERYTHING!! Be very careful when booking with hertz, they are scam artists. You may be booked off-airport without your knowledge and there is nothing on your confirmation that may even slightly indicate that.Reviewed 11 May 2021
