Top tips for hiring a car at Brisbane airport

  • When travelling around Brisbane, the capital and most popular city in Queensland, Australia, car hire at Brisbane Airport is extremely easy to use; with 30 different agencies available you are sure to find the ideal vehicle for your travel requirements. Both the domestic and international terminals have easy access for the collection and drop off of your rental car.
  • If your rental agency is not situated within the immediate terminals of the airport, don't worry as the off-site rental agencies offer transfers from the terminals to the rental desks of each agency. Be sure to book ahead of time for this service or check the scheduled shuttle schedule on arrival. These agents offer pickups from both international and domestic arrivals halls.
  • We would recommend that you pick a car that offers air-conditioning for climate comfort in the subtropical weather conditions renowned in the Brisbane area, especially in the summer months of December to February. Be sure to avoid spending too much time in the car by booking a vehicle with an inbuilt navigation system which is available with most agencies offering car rental at Brisbane airport, QLD, Australia.
  • When driving in Brisbane remember to pay close attention to the rules and restrictions of the road, such as adhering to driving on the left-hand side of the road. If you are travelling with children under the age of seven you will need to pre-book a child car seat as stipulated by the law, as well as always buckling up. Seat belts are compulsory for all adults travelling in a vehicle, whether they are driving or not!

FAQs about hiring a car at Brisbane airport

  • What is a toll tag, do I need one, and how do I get one?

Prime areas near, and with easy access from, the airport, which you might want to explore in your rental car, include Brisbane CBD, the Sunshine Coast or the Gold Coast. Keep in mind that these main routes charge a toll for use. The car tires were almost flat and needed to be refilled twice over the course of the rental. The wipers needed to be replaced and an interior side panel kept falling off near the driver’s feet. It took a long time to get to the off-site location from the terminal, the check was time-consuming making the whole experience extremely long after arriving from an international flight. It is unlikely that I will rent from Crazy Clarks again.

I am absolutely appalled by the service we received from Hertz at Brisbane Airport. Our wait time was longer than our flight over from New Zealand! There was a genuine lack of care from the single staff member on duty, whose incompetence and inability to use the rental system caused a significant delay. This resulted in us missing our family dinner, and the staff member showed zero empathy towards our situation. Despite escalating the issue to Hertz on social media privately while standing in the queue one week ago, we have yet to receive any response. This level of customer service is unacceptable and disgraceful. I would strongly advise anyone considering Hertz to look elsewhere to avoid a similarly dreadful experience. Appalling!

The car was Matsuda’s CX-3 and I loved it. The key is automatically locked after leaving the car, the engine starts by only pushing the button, and it is fuel efficient. And above all, I could rent the car with no unnecessary options like insurance and road assistance, which I have never used in my life (Most shops silently add those options and it is really hard to cancel them for foreign travers who have no phone number in the country like me)

Standard SUV

Staff were friendly and helpful. The lack of a toll pass adds AUD 5 on top of each and every toll, which is not ideal. There was quite a long line to return the vehicle, so you need to allocate half an hoir before you need to be at the airport to complete your return and get the shuttle.

Made us wait 2 hrs for the rental, no communication, can't reach anyone for changes. Overall a very poor experience. I will never rent from bargain again and will let ever-present I talk to know of my experience. I brought the vehicle back three days late and they charged me for 6 extra days. Garbage company. DO NOT USE BARGAIN rentals!!!! I work in the transportation industry and will make sure everyone in Brisbane area knows. Thanks for nothing..

The car was cheap and it showed. Car broke down on the second day. My friend looked in the bonnet and it had a leaking battery that was rust as hell? How can you rent that kind of car to someone

We booked a Toyota corolla, but they gave us a Hyundai i20. Also, he pays my Uber receipt as well. ($20)

It didn’t happen. No one collected me from airport. No one called me. Never again. Stop contacting me. I had better not be charged.
