Invented random feesCons: Ended up walking away from my reservation. When I pointed out that the fees were already included in the total I was quoted, the employees became shifty and came up with a random airport tax/fee that doesn't exist. They quoted me one amount for a deposit, then they changed their minds because the rental is an SUV. I had no confidence left, so I walked away and rented from another rental company.

They ignored my reservationCons: I reserved early because of the season. When we arrived they acknowledged our reservation but simply said they didnt have any cars. I thought the point of a reservation was precisely so there would be a car.

Pros: Car was cleanCons: It wasn't the car I ordered. Despite several days in advance with confirmation car wasn't waiting for me and I needed to go for 2WD instead of 4x4 which prevented me from entering certain areas and made my journey in Guatemala risky and stressful.

driving in GuatemalaPros: The car was cleanCons: The price quoted to me on the phone and sent by email did not match at all what we had to pay when we got there, we had to pay at least $100 more. And we had to take insurance - which is fine if it's required but that wasn't stated up front as a requirement. The language barrier didn't help either as we don't speak Spanish.

Loads of hidden chargesPros: The car was clean and drove well.Cons: The car was advertised at $10 dollars a day through kayak so we booked it. When we arrived they told us it was $60 dollars a day. Kayak apparently just give a guide price. We also had insurance through insurance for car hire, they told us they didn't accept this so we had to buy their insurance. There was also a $50 'miscellaneous charge' which when we queried it they immediately removed. We were forced to go with them as there was no other option for us at the time but would not us kayak or Avis again.

Cons: You charged me $150 for an insurance policy that didn't work in the country of question. Also didn't mention that I would have to pay a $1000 deposit for the vehicle. These things combined sunk the possibility of renting a car so I never picked it up and refunded my insurance purchase. What a shitty experience.

Bait and switchCons: Said the insurance I bought wasn’t valid. Then the price of the car rental itself has gone up. So I walked away from the reservation and dealt with cab rides through out my vacation. Not the end of the world but certainly not a positive on the car rental.

Good people, not much savingPros: Friendly staff, great vehicle, no problems at all.Cons: i called enterprise to get a quote on a car seat and the rates are different from the website and i was given wrong info, when i showed up they wanted to charge me $12 a day!!! i refused and bought one at a walmart instead. Insurance was forced on me without having the credit card disclosure where it shows i have coverage.

To return a car and leave keys in return box, you MUST purchase full coverage which is about $50/day. If you wait for hours of operations to rerun your car in person, you risk missing your flight. Left stranded.Pros: NothingCons: They did not have the car I reserved, nor any car at all. We were left stranded in a country we had never visited with no car. The budget agent at the airport said that even though we had a reservation, he did not have a car for us. He suggested other questionable car rental places at a much higher price. We ended having to find our own car at other place. This was the worst car rental experience of my life, will never use budget in my life again.

Budget Agent DishonestPros: NothingCons: We had made reservations for two compact cars. The rental agent told us that they did not have the vehicles that we had reserved, and that they did not have any vehicles. I believe that they did in fact have vehicles for rent, but did not want to rent to us at the discounted price we got through Kayak. We witnessed the agent signing agreements with other customers that had arrived after us. I will not be renting from Budget in Guatemala or anywhere else again.

Didn't fulfill my reservationPros: Abosutelly nothing.Cons: I made a reservation a week in advance for an economy car to pick it up at La Aurora Airport in Guatemala. I called them as my making my way there to pick up the car, they pulled up my reservation and they said "Sorry, we don't have cars." I told the person on the phone that I had made a reservation a week in advance and that I needed the car, she replied "sorry, we don't have cars". I asked her if they had cars in another of their locations in the city, again "sorry, we don't have cars". I asked if they had another type of car, I got the same "sorry, we don't have cars". I was never notified of this. I called two hours in advance before pick up the car so it wasn't like I showed up late to pick it up. I was never offered a way to solve this problem, something like giving me another type of car at the price of my reservation or even getting me a car from another company. I was left out to figure it out on my own in a third world country, I had a tight travel schedule so I needed a car at that moment. After two hours of searching around I had to bite the bullet and rent a car for THREE times more money that what I made my reservation for. I even went on Budget's website and it said they DID have cars! I am never renting with them again and if you don't want to be left out in the wind in a third world country shouldn't do you.

Extra Insurance and Hidden Deposit FeeCons: When we got to the offsite counter, they told us we needed to buy extra $200 insurance even though we had already bought insurance online as well as leave a $2000 deposit that wasn't mentioned anywhere before. Wound up getting a car elsewhere. Very poor. Also car they wanted us to talke was really banged up and missing nobs on the center console.

Terrible PAYLESS experience in Guatemala CityCons: Extorted money for "mandatory" insurance, despite having paid for full insurance through Payless/Kayak. Car was worse then the car I learned to drive on(1971 VW bus), the brake light was taped on, headlights were positioned incorrectly, you could only see in the dark while going up a hill, even with high beams. When idling the whole car shook like we were having a huge earthquake. And the car felt like it only had 2 cylinders. Very bad experience.

It's okPros: Well they did not have the vehicle I had reserved. They did upgrade me to a van type vehicle but was stick shift. No real issues just not my first choice from an SUV. The staff friendly and helpful no complaints on them.Cons: Well I purchased insurance through Kayak. When arrived I got hit with an additional $200 and some dollars in insurance that was mandatory. I showed them insurance purchased and they said yes but does not cover all so I ended up paying over $350 in insurance. Just wish they were upfront before reserving car.

Pros: Vehicle had damage that affected functionality. We had to wait about 2 hours to get the vehicle. Undisclosed insurance requirement was added at check in. Overall poor experience.Cons: Be timely. Provide a good product. Be upfront about pricing.

Cons: The Thrifty agent was not at the pick-up location at the scheduled time. The vehicle (a Mitsubishi sedan) itself performed slowly, and was very sluggish on roads with hills. The vehicle had over 141,000 miles on it, which is probably why it performed poorly. The tires were almost bald. The plastic chip cover on the key ring broke apart and some electronic chips fell out, making it impossible to start the car. This happened the day we had to be at the airport for an outbound flight. We had rented from Thrifty on another occasion, and that vehicle broke down and had to be replaced. It also had one broken headlight bulb that had to be replaced. Adios Thrifty.

Cons: Very deceptive pricing. Company Would not rent vehicle without purchasing their own insurance, which was more expensive than the cost of the rental itself, and this was not indicated anywhere while making the reservation
