Pros: The car was clean, easy to drive, and gave us no problems. The staff understood the rental policies very well and they and gave us a couple very helpful hints to save us from getting dinged with more charges. Take pictures of the car at pick up and fill up the tank before drop off.Cons: Purchasing insurance on Kayak ins't recognized by Sixt. There were several nickel and dime charges on top of not purchasing insurance thru Sixt. Our rental ended up being about twice what it was on Kayak. Be sure to take photos of the car at pick up. It came in handy at drop off.

Cons: I didn't realize purchasing insurance at the time of making the reservation would be non-refundable if I cancelled my reservation. That should be printed in large text prior to simply adding it onto the rental. If it can be added after the reservation is made, it should be refundable if cancelled.

Cons: The agent at pick up was giving me the hard sell for extra insurance, GPS and other add ons. She was repeatedly asking about them. Then the car I got ham was empty on gas when it was supposed to be full. Everything else was very good.

Pros: It was a clean car that drove well.Cons: We had purchased car insurance through Allianz that we were referred to on the Kayak site. Sixt did not honor the insurance and the amount of our rental skyrocketed and was many times the amount quoted on the site and for which we agreed to when we booked the car due to there saying we had to have their insurance and Allianz wouldn't be accepted. So we were out the amount we paid for Allianz and the additional amount for the car. We feel we should be compensated!!

TerriblePros: NothingCons: Horrible drop off experience. Crowded office, no signs. Spent 45 minutes in crowded office only to be told drop off was 300m down the road. Dropped off car and then was told to head back to main office 300m away saying they needed to remove a hold on my account. Spent another 30 minutes before one girl behind the desk said here colleague misspoke and I did not need to wait there. No coordination, lots of confusion, will never ever rent from Sixt again in Croatia. Especially in Split. Avoid Sixt in Split at all costs!
Car Hire - SplitPros: Overall customer service was very good. I was prepared for the 'hard sell' for additional insurance which I had decided beforehand not to proceed with and stuck to my decision, which was ok. The car was very good, which I was happy about. It's important to familiarise yourself with the terms and conditions, specially credit card and fuel policies, otherwise you may find yourself in difficulties. Despite some other negative reviews I was happy with the rental.Cons: Had to inspect the car in the dark due to arrival time and a poorly lit area. However, they agreed to acknowledge that on the paperwork I had to sign.
Cons: Provided telephone number did not work. Also nobody confirmed reservation. Zero contact.

Pros: I was pleased that we could pick-up & drop-off in different cities without paying a large fee. Also, we appreciated not being required to use the locations at the airport, which was more convenient for us.Cons: The car was provided with only 3/8 of a tank of fuel, which required us to fill it very shortly after pick-up. Also, the car provided was much larger than anticipated (a crossover as opposed to intermediate size), which made driving on narrow mountain roads a bit more difficult.

Cons: There is no dedicated drop off lot in Split (city location). You have to pay to park the car at the bus station and walk a few blocks to the rental office. No one mentioned this when we picked up the car and requested a drop of at the city location.

Pros: Staff was courteous and professional We showed up at their port location and everything was in orderCons: No problems at all
Not a 5 seater car!Pros: Nice car, nice and clean.Cons: Ordered a 5 seater car, when we went to pick it up it only had 4 seats! You shouldn’t advertise a car for having 5 seats if it doesn’t. Man in the shop was quite grumpy.

Great car. Great service.Pros: Someone was ready when i got there. Paperwork was quick. Helpful on directions. Someone was waiting when I returned. Check in was also quick and efficient.
Cons: Our Skoda diesel sedan got terrific fuel mileage, over 50mpg! We found the seats to be less comfortable than desired on our multiple 2.5 hour daily jaunts. Other than that, wonderful car and great experience from Avis.

TerriblePros: NothingCons: They didn’t have a car for me
Pros: Nice quality carCons: Car was dirty at pick-up, plus you were waiting at a street corner for your car with all the car rentals, mass confusion. The car only had just over 1/2 the tank with gas ... had to guess how much gas to return the car with.
The best way to explore Croatia is undoubtedly by car. The country’s small size and generally well-maintained roads make the country a dream for road tripping tourists. It isn’t just the country that is best explored by car, however; the cities are too. For instance, travelers to Split will find that, with a car, many of the city’s wonderous sites such as the Klis Fortress, Riva Harbor, and Diocletian's Palace are within easy reach.

Travelers should note that cell phones are strictly forbidden to use while driving. However, hands-free devices are allowed. If you’re using your phone as a GPS, you will be best off having a passenger use the phone rather than risking a fine.
