Wrong pickup location
Pros: The pickup Kayak assigned me was to an enterprise office not at Newark airport but would have involved a 20 min cab ride across town with all my luggage. Luckily the enterprise staff at Newark were very helpful. My booking wasn't transferable but they were able to find me a booking at a similar price. I had to pay more though.
Cons: Kayak pickup location is not at the airport.

Cons: Insurance for third parties is ridiculous. The limit is $ 100,000 which is practically zero. In Italy that it is not a rich country the statutory minimum is € 5 million. is practically mandatory additional insurance (SLI) which costs $ 18 / day plus tax.
In addition the policy on the damage to the car (Kasko) is extra.

Everything great except mysterious rate change
Pros: Car was clean, new, and well equipped.
Staff was friendly, attentive, and interested.
24 hour service was vital, given the uncertainties of air travel arrival times (and airtrain, etc.).
Charges were very clearly itemized, no guesswork.
Cons: The rate charged was much higher than the one booked online. No explanation of this change was offered, and it was not due to additional taxes and fees which were very clearly itemized.

Alamo at PHL is tied to National
Pros: Price was way better than the others. Location was convenient for pick-up.
Cons: You are at the counter of National Rental Car, Alamo doesn't have their own counter here at Newark Airport so you are at the mercy of their reps. It's slow because you are in the same line that are in. The compact Mitsubishi car I rented (Mirage) was horrible. It felt highly unstable cornering and had a top heavy feeling.

Cons: Initially, when looking at the deals that popped up on KAYAK, I tried several times to book the first couple of price quotes that were found. Each time I would fill out all of the information, only to be told when submitting the reservation that this price was no longer available. To have price quotes appear in the search results that were no longer available was very frustrating.

Cons: I was told that the fuel option could be removed from my final bill if I brought the car back with a full tank and showed a receipt proving I filled up with 10 miles of the drop off location. I did as such but was told I was misinformed and they would not remove the fuel option charge. I will not be renting from here again as this cost me an additional $40.

Cons: Staffing at Newark at 10pm was challenges to keep up with just a few folks in line waiting to pick up their rentals. Waited about 20 minutes with only 1 person in line in front of me and two people who were literally at the counter for nearly that entire 20 minutes. Then no one was outside in the yard to help point me to the right vehicle. Ended up accidentally getting into the wrong one and was turned around to be sent back to switch to the right one. Not fun at 11pm on a rainy night outside.

A rental companies who hates the young
Cons: Because we didn't have a credit card, we couldn't take the car and we lost 2 hours trying to take it from another company in the lobby who would be willing to take debit cards. Let alone who wouldn't lash put on the one way fees and the underage fees. Being young usually means being short on money, but the rental companies don't seem to understand that and just take advantage of our energy and our love for travel.

Cons: EZ-Pass was $18.49 a day to use. Blue-tooth didn't work. No wiper fluid.
Great service, poor automobile and pickup procedur
Pros: Great pickup personnel at desk and with drop off. The car they gave me was not in the space they told me, it was parked next to it in overflow parking. I got all the way packed, inspected and to the gate before someone told me I was in wrong car. Cost me an hour to get it straightened out.
Cons: See above to start. The car was in poor shape. Banged up rear fender and missing hub cap. It had almost 31,000 miles on it.

Outside service awful

Cons: After inside paperwork was done, was told to go outside and find attendant. Finally found her texting someone in one of the cars at which point she took my paperwork, examined the the parking spot and led me to a nice car. Unfortunately it was the wrong one, discovered by the gate agent. Took me another 45 mins to get out of lot. Upon check in, the attendant was absent again, finally found her texting again in another car.

Use a debit card and you will be judged
Pros: The car was clean and energy efficient.
Cons: The pickup process was lengthy, and the Budget agent made a big deal about our wanting to use a debit card to pay for the transaction. She brought up the notion that they would perform a credit check and If our credit wasn't up to their standards, they would reject our request for a car rental. This was a very negative, uncomfortable conversation as it seemed like the agent had already assumed our credit was unworthy. My boyfriend finally just handed over a credit card to end the unpleasant interaction. I have not encountered this attitude at other rental companies such as Enterprise.

Cons: the front passenger tire blew out while I was driving and the spare had a leak so it would not hold air. got a trade in and the tires on it were also poor. bad air leaks. the maintenance people are not checking to see if tires are good to put on cars. sales people did not care about my complaints and did nothing to make me want to come back. no discounts or refunds. bad customer service.

Cons: The manager was rude and when I tried to pick up a confirmed rental, I was told there were no cars. I had a confirmation number, but she said that couldn't help me. This was the Payless rental at Newark airport. Went to the next counter and rented through budget. Don't book with them!

When I arrived to claim my reserved car they lied about what my original reservation details were so that they could try to up-sell me into a more expensive contract. Try to get your head around that?
The attendant was so rude, she wouldn't make eye contact, and she lectured me with her idiotic company-fed lines until finally accepting that the scam wasn't going to work on me.
I eventually got my car as reserved, but it stank like smoke.

Lost & Cancelled Reservation
Pros: I liked the initial feeling that this was going to go well based on the efficient booking process on Kayak. This was very short lived.
Cons: My reservation was lost, and then when my partner attempted to get any information using all of the reservation info that I passed along to him (and offering to have them call me directly, or me call them), he was told that there was nothing that he could do. Then, they "found" the reservation by looking under a code for another airport and alerted him that they had no cars left even though we attempted to notify them and modify the reservation/late pickup. Once told they had absolutely no cars, we both again looked online and immediately found that we were able to reserve the same car at the same price. When we showed that to the counter help, they sighed and said that yes they did have cars, but it would be "like, 45 minutes" until they were ready at the earliest. None of this really made sense, but I wasn't exactly approaching this budget car rental situation with that expectation. Luckily, my partner was able to make a separate reservation, and then "spend time at Dunkin Donuts" until the car was "ready" as directed. I did end up paying for a car rental insurance agreement for both times I attempted to book, and not for the actual rental that took place. Silver lining though - we didn't get any additional damage charges while risking the lack of round 3 insurance!

Cons: The total was not close to what was actually the real total. $63 in taxes for a $30 rental doesn't make much sense. Had I been shown that from the beginning, I wouldn't have booked it. Not to mention the car smelled and was pretty dirty. Pickup was EWR airport. Other companies list the total taxes on the original reservation. The other people in line had the same complaints. I ended up not getting the car and finding alternative transportation.
Cons: They were actually the worst service and business I have ever had to deal with. Will never rent through thrify again and question using kayaks services for recommending such a terrible establishment.

Too many unnecessary fees
Pros: New, clean car. Returning was easy enough I guess.
Cons: I feel like they are dishonest with regard to fees. They upsell insurance hard and it's not needed for almost everyone. Also, they charge an absurd amount to use EZ-pass which is very convenient in the tristate area. Ridiculous and inconvenient.
Other rental companies don't charge for EZ-pass (including zipcar).

Pros: When I went to the assigned space the car wasn't there. An employee was driving by and stopped immediately and got me a different car and sent me on my way with very little delay and was extremely nice and helpful. He was great and made me happy to use Thrifty again in the future, he was a perfect example of good customer service.
Cons: The ladies' bathroom was not very nice with one of the toilets clogged and the floor was wet.

Newark airport holiday rental
Pros: The car was as promised and the best price I could find over the holidays. However, the service while picking up was terrible. There were 2 attendants who had no sense of urgency. One disappeared for about 20 minutes, although there was a line. The other stood doing nothing for 10 minutes while a customer looked at options. No "thanks for waiting" or the such was offered either.
Cons: I have never heard a no show fee by any rental car company. If there was $50 is excessive.

Cons: It took 40 minutes from the time i called for the airport shuttle to pick me up. The damage inspection was completed in a dark parking lot, which made me nervous, as it was difficult to get a good look at the car. They just need another light out there. The car itself had a few minor issues, but nothing majorly wrong.

Be care with this place!
Cons: When I found the place (not easy), I was informed that I had to pay more for unlimited miles!! According to the rep. I was from New York and that was considered local?? They are in New Jersey which is a different STATE! They claimed that priceline was the middle man and they had no control of this. Ridiculous! About an hour car ride to get there. They tried to get me to accept their insurance plan and had to call my insurance to stop them. They video taped the condition of the car which was fine...until someone on the premises told me, "if I were you I would video tape also! I know what I'm telling you". I quickly took my cell phone out and recorded. I felt ripped off by this place because I had to pay much more for a car deal that indicated that it was unlimited miles. Make sure you ask one hundred questions before you decide to do anything with economy.

Pros: The price was the original reason for me booking this unknown rental car company.
Cons: Unfortunately, it ended up not being worth the struggle. From the pick up to the drop off, everything was difficult. To the shuttle bus taking 20 minutes to pick me up... the $40 ticket for expired registration on the car (to which I do not plan on paying)... broken pieces in the car ... to a 30 minute drop off because I showed up at 8:30pm!!? And trying to get help in getting to the right area was beyond frustrating.

Pros: Staff were really helpful and kind. Car was fine. Price was significantly less than others.
Cons: Car had overpowering air freshener smell -- we couldn't get rid of it. Stenchy.
Off airport location took extra hassle to find their shuttle (not with other off-airport rentals. Don't take the air train!).

Pros: Nice clean car; great check-in with video of car before it left the lot. Shuttle that picks you up goes through many back lots & it is difficult to orient yourself. When asking about drop-off they say use mapquest. Just need to say it is next to Holiday Inn -- Bingo!
Cons: Drop off was a nightmare! I missed my flight but I was actually within 3 miles of the location an hour and a half prior to my departure. I called the number for Drivo and there was 1 person, heavy accent and did not know area. I called back several times and got different instructions. Last call (too late for my flight) told to look for Holiday Inn--Voila!

Cons: I have gold status. I entered my number, hit the icon for getting a discount and the quoted price more than doubled!! Started over and reserved at the price obtained on Kayak. Then I don't get credit for the rental. Pretty unique way to treat a customer.

More explicit information when a car only seats 2
Cons: When I arrived, I was told I booked a car that only seated 2 people. I can't imagine making that oversight when I was intentionally booking a car suitable for 4 people traveling with me. The other person in my party booked the same and had the same incident. I don't know if it was Hertz doing a bait and switch or if the process on Kayak was not transparent, but I hope there can be more clarity upfront so we don't feel foolish or taken advantage of. I've booked with Hertz many times before and this was the first time this occurred, and I wouldn't note it if it hadn't happened to both groups who made a Kayak reservation.

Simply bad miscommunication as well we bad informa
Cons: I waited in line at 3AM for 40 minutes, because they are short staffed. they put me over the phone with a live representative. She was not very helpful at all and asked that I have to wait 30 minutes to get my car. Meanwhile, the counter person was helpful enough, but then told me that they cannot accept debit cards!!?! Asked me to come back at 6PM to pick up the vehicle. He told me if I can't do that, go ahead and go to the next stop and get it from someone else, because no one at this terminal would take debit. Also he claimed that I can call hertz and get the pre-paid refund, which later I found out is not true. Nonetheless, after an hour30 minutes, I left with no car, no reservation, in the middle of the airport. So I walked over to Alamo, and they basically rented me the same car with the same price and took my debt.

Pros: Drop off was quick
Cons: I spent more than an hour in line to pick up my car. Only a few people working, and several people in line. The following day, my tire was flat. They told me to go exchange the car after roadside assistance came to put the spare on. The nearest exchange place was an hour away, so for the sake of time, I had the tire fixed at a local tire shop and decided to suck up the cost. Unfortunately the tire went flat again the following day, so I had roadside assistance change the tire and I went to exchange the car. It was 2 1/2 hours of my time--late for a business dinner--oh well. The initial car ran hard (I was driving a compact ford) and was very uncomfortable. It only had 34k miles on it, but it ran like a much older car. The new car was much better and more comfortable. But as I was driving again (in the middle of nowhere) I found that that car's tire had a slow air leak.

Please update your Newark Airport dropoff location
Pros: The people who work there are outstanding. I don't know how you do it. Everyone seems to truly care if you are happy. You're an honest company...I showed them all the "dings" on the car near the trunk before I left (I've had awful experiences with cars from other rental agencies) and the man said that the area was "normal wear and tear" Realistic. I love that your EZ pass for the tolls is only $5 extra a day, and all cars have them. Again, other agencies charge way more and often don't even have them.
I am not normally "brand loyal, " but I am to Hertz. Just make the changes with your "never lost" to the airport, and you'll be golden!
Cons: You need to change the drop off location in your map section! It took me to the hertz counter in the main airport, not the area for drop off. I looped around a few times, thinking I made a mistake with my driving. set me back 25 minutes. Total bummer.
The price was higher than I would have liked. I had to rush back to take care of my mother - maybe it was because it was a last minute booking?

Customer service was excellent
Pros: In the midst of the snow storm hitting and what was obviously a very long day, the service reps (especially Diane?...whoever was at the Newark desk) gave amazing and prompt service.
Cons: I was able to reserve a car on line to drive from Manhattan to Cleveland. I even received a confirmation number. When we called to verify, we were then told that we could not have a car with a one way trip to Cleveland. I then received 2 texts and 2 phone calls requesting that I forward my information regarding the rental. During the last phone call, requesting "where I was" it was indeed clarified that I could not rent the car one way to Cleveland and the person on the line would just cancel the rental "for me". Really? It was confusing and frustrating.
