The breakfast was good and included. The room was big and you could open the window. Check in and check out was easy. The location is only 15 min walk to center and the train station is just a 5 min walk away
The hotel is pretty old and would need a renovation. It was really noisy, sounds like someone is shifting the furniture the whole night (maybe it was the elevator, it was close to our room). The toilet was making noices the whole time. The area of the location is not very nice and in the night not really safe.
Breakfast was included in the rate we paid and it was substantial. Plenty of variety including hot food. I have rated the location because is suited us being so near to Brussels Midi train station. It was a 15 minute walk pulling a heavy case, in rain and strong winds, so probably could do it in less on a good day or travelling light (something I seem to find impossible to do). The hotel was spotlessly clean, in all areas. The room allocated had a double and single bed so the two of us had room to spread out a bit. Pleasantly surprised by : two windows in the bedroom, great blackout curtains and the size of the bathroom (and the fact that it too had a small window which could be opened).
The location was perfect for the Eurostar terminal but the streets around the hotel did not feel like the best. I'm not sure I would feel safe walking in the streets around the hotel on my own at night. However, that said the hotel itself is on an open square which is well lit and next to a main/ busy thoroughfare. This comment is for info only as I would be willing to stay at the hotel again. Particularly when travelling in/out of Brussels via Brussels Midi train station.
Amazing place, totally new with an amazing breakfast and service support. Employees give you all attention possible. Close to the main station and with food options close.
Not so close to the city center, but nothing that 15min walking or train cannot solve.
Liked: - Receptionists all spoke English. - Continental Breakfast. There were croissants, pain-au-chocolat, loaf cake, chocolate loaf cake, 2 types of bread, baguette, scrambled egg, bacon, cheese, ham, cereal, yoghurt, olives, fruits, salad, hot drinks, juices, jam & other spreads and other items. - Seating in the lobby area with a TV. - Literature/Leaflets for tourists near reception. - Dedicates luggage storage room just incase your early for your room or your flight/train is later after checkout. - Lift available (though it is a bit small). - Heating. - 3 types of towels provided. - Room was very clean. - Mirrors in room and bathroom. - Table and cupboard for clothing and storage. - Telephone access to reception and wake up call. - Two bins. - Night table lamp. - Samsung television with Belgian/French/Dutch channels. - Lemonnier Tram Station is 2 minutes walk with 4 Tram lines operating. - Brussels Midi/Zuid Station within 8 minutes walking distance providing local and national rail including airport link, Eurostar International and also metro, bus, tram connections. - Grand Place is 20 minutes walk or 2 stops on the Tram. - Loads of nearby shops for food and drink.
Disliked: - On my 1st night, a small part of the ceiling collapsed in the hotel room passageway with water leaking onto the floor making loud dripping noise. Hotel staff were not aware until advised. Bucket was placed at night for the leaking water and the ceiling debris and floor was cleaned in the morning. Two of the lights nearby kept flickering and behind the collapsed ceiling there were electrical wires which were exposed which could have lead to short circuit. When I checked out of the hotel on Day 6, the small collapsed ceiling in the passageway still showed the damp patch and still was not covered or repaired. - WiFi signal was poor and kept disconnecting. - Pillow is unorthodox, more of a square cushion than a rectangle pillow and the bed mattress was not comfortable, made of spring. - Toilet seat is not in an ideal position in the bathroom as a big person with a stocky built would struggle to sit as there is no space on tye left side. - Air conditioning did not work even though it was turned on by the remote with the correct settings. Luckily it's winter. - On my 2nd night when I was coming back to the hotel after 8pm, I had to wait over 2 minutes before someone opened the main hotel front doors to let me in. - No sign of CCTV in operation in the hotel room passageway. - Room key card stopped working for no reason even though it was not in contact with anything magnetic or mobile phone, etc. But receptionist reconfigured the card. - There was no normal chair except an unorthodox beach style wooden seat which you could not sit on as it was uncomfortable. - Room is not good for 5 nights, maybe 2 at the maximum as there was no tea/coffee facilities.
Basic but perfectly adequate hotel, great value, a short walk from the south station
