The roads in Naxos are quite narrow and often steep, so a small car is usually recommended as it’s easier to park around town. If you’re traveling with the family or need more space and comfort, a mid-size sedan or even a jeep will do the job. If you aren’t comfortable driving a manual transmission car, be sure to book your automatic vehicle in advance.
The speed limit in urban areas throughout Greece is 50 km/h (31 mph), but it may be lower in specific areas, in which case the signs will be posted. The speed limit outside towns ranges between 80 and 90 km/h (50-56 mph), and on open roads it ranges between 120 and 120 km/h (62-75 mph). Freeways have a maximum limit of 120 km/h (75 mph).
The average petrol prices in Greece are around €6.00 ($6.85 USD) per gallon. You can find lower prices of €5.68 ($6.48 USD) per gallon, and prices as high as €6.44 ($7.35 USD) per gallon. However, remember that Naxos is a fairly touristy island and that inflation means petrol prices will be higher there than in mainland Greece.
Your best shot at a safe, regular parking spot is by booking accommodation that offers private parking. There isn’t much street parking available in town, but there are a few lots you can try, including the big one next to the Town Hall and the one behind the Kastro. Look for the “P” signs that will direct you to parking lots, even if some take you through narrow streets.
