Pros: The car was great. Clean, ran well.
Cons: Okay, so we were only shorted 1 gallon. Still. It put a sour taste in our mouths. When we picked up the car the agent asked us if we would like to upgrade from our current midsize car to one with air conditioning and cruise control. When we asked if our car didn't already have those amenities, we were told, "Well... it's a midsize." We declined the upgrade, got to our vehicle, and discovered that midsize cars do indeed have cruise and air. Poor class, Alamo.

They said take one from National next door, so we went back out. No SUV's. They then said to take any car in the National Emerald row. There was one SUV there. The whole process took about twenty minutes, plus thirty in line to exit the lot.

Cons: My only issue with Alamo is the distance one has to walk (not under cover) in Kansas City after you drop off the car. They have a new area still under construction but it was a VERY LONG walk in the cold to reach the transfer area.
Cons: Downgraded to a smaller car. Literally take it or leave it. All other companies sold out. Car was dirty, smelled of smoke, and scratched all over. Absolutely horrible customer service and will never use dollar rent a car KC again.

Cons: Hidden fees. The insurance and "courtesy fees" resulted in a final price that was DOUBLE the estimate.
Despite the fact that you can make reservations for the early morning hours, they close at midnight.

Cons: The economy car I was given did not have room for more than two suitcases, the driver seat only had forward and backward adjustment not up and down.The exterior mirrors could not be adjusted from the driver seat. I asked to exchange the car for something better,, but all they had was a manual transmission. I had to go to another agency and pay a higher price because I had not ordered ahead of time. Horrible experience.

They booked at the pickup location which messed up
Cons: I searched for car rental at MCI airport (Kansas City), and from the results, I choose Hertz and pre-paid. At the airport Hertz pickup location I found that the pickup location they had in the reservation was downtown. I don't know how that happened. They said that if I had to cancel the existing reservation and take the one at the airport, then I have to pay 3 TIMES the amount of my existing reservation. It was a mess. Finally, I had to cancel that reservation and had to go for another car rental agency on the spot. Double-check the reservation for the pickup location and NEVER pre-pay (if you don't prepay, they will not charge if you don't pickup).

Cons: Apparently, I, a person not familiar with the area was duped into paying for a rental that was downtown in KC. How would I have gotten downtown from the airport? Why wouldn't I have used that transportation for my needs? What good is a non-airport rental? I will not use you again.

Cons: I payed $55 plus tax on Kayak for this rental. That was the price I was quoted and should have been the end of it, but when I arrived at the airport, they said there had been a computer error. They charged me an additional $18 plus tax. Granted, it wasn't that much more, but I should not have had to pay twice. I will not use Kayak again, as this has happened before with a flight as well.

Pros: Everyone was friendly
Cons: My reservation was at a different location. So I ended up cxl the first res and going to the counter. The gentleman tried to charge me $385, then $285, and then I booked it for $136 online for same rental. I have a newborn with me and just felt like they weren't very helpful after a long day of travel and traveling w an infant alone and with luggage.
I tried to extend for 3 hours and ended up paying for an extra day. I was charged for gas when I filled it up right around the corner. So then I had to go to the counter again to resolve that issue.
Just felt like they could have been a tad more compassionate and accommodating.
I'll think twice before renting w Avis again.
Cancelled due to different the pick up - drop off points
Pros: Easy to reserve through Kayak. Easy to Cancel through Kayak with no penalty fees. Attractive rental fee.
Cons: Wanted pick up and delivery at MCI (KC airport), instead the reservation would have required me to pick up in downtown KC and drop off in Independence MO. Who does that? Not apparent at time of selecting car that it was not at the Airport and that pick up and drop off weren't even at the same location. Rather unlikely that I would use Kayak or Enterprise again for car rental.

Pros: Good service. They gave me a 10% discount because of the dirty car.
Cons: The car hadn't been dusted or cleaned in a while. There was still spare change and wrappers from a previous driver on the floor and a layer of dust cabs grime on everything.

Pros: I liked finding that my car was reserved for me at a location 40 miles from the nearest location. I liked that they did not have any full size cars left BUT they were willing to up grade me to a Larger car IF I paid the full rental price.
Cons: I didn't like the delay. I did not like making my first stop to a gas station to top off my car. I did not like driving through the car wash to get the pigeon poop and salt spray off my vehicle-That was $7 unreimbursed.. I could go on but nobody is going to read this much less do anything about it.

Cons: The rental location changed on me & I had to pay for a ride to get to the rental. Then I was given a car that had a disgusting smoked in smell that someone tried to mask with some other scent. There were high winds and this car is not safe in high winds. The gas tank was provided half full.

Cons: I had requested to pick the car up at the airport, entetend my reservation as such. Unfortunately, the car was located 25 miles south, cost me $50.00 cab fare and being late.
Cons: Despite booking a compact car ahead of time and calling to confirm, the only thing they had available when we landed was an SUV. We ended up needing to use a different vendor and pay more last minute.

I really wish there was a policy or something in place that I could extend my rental a few hours in the case of something like this. Even if you just prorated a day, I would gladly pay for it over waiting at the airport. I know that's probably difficult to plan for, but just an idea.

no vans when we arrived
Cons: No vans when we arrived to pick up. Agents socializing with each other and on their phones instead of talking to us, explaining the situation. Gave us a 15 pax bus instead, too big for what we needed. As we walked out to an Explorer, we were told that was the only option, 3 mini vans pulled up cleaned and ready to go. I had to go back inside and do all the paper work again. TIme spent at Budget-1 and 1/2 hours! Ridiculous.

Pros: We were able to check it in before the location closed.
Cons: Drop off was confusing as we arrived right before the location closed. They were already closing the lot down so we had to walk inside to the counter instead of being met at the pull up area. The guy seemed very confused the whole time and didn't even bother to come out and do a walk around of the car or check the fuel level. Also ended up being $15 more expensive than the reserved price.
Pros: The car...the price was exactly on the money. No surprises!

Pros: The Ford Fusion hybrid rode nicely. I inadvertently booked a car in the wrong city. Staff corrected my error and was able to get me a car in a couple of minutes.
Cons: Friendly but Slow service on return of rental car. Sticker shock on rental price. The rental rate did not include taxes online. I got sticker shock when picking up the car.

Pros: When I dropped the car off the attendant was extraordinarily pleasant and helpful. And the car was super clean!
Cons: My flight arrived early and so I arrived at the counter at 1:56 with a 2 pm reservation. I was told I would be charged extra for early pick up... no one was able to override the system that, apparently, required this charge... so I sat and waited the 4 minutes to be able to pick the car up to avoid being charged nearly $20. This seemed like a petty, utterly unnecessary requirement in the midst of a busy day.

Bait and switch
Cons: Had a reservation for a Ford Focus compact car. Got there and no Ford Focus, instead they gave me a Toyota Yaris, which is a subcompact. The person at the counter insisted that a Yaris is a compact and that was what they had. Toyota clearly classified this car as a subcompact. They did have Hyundai Elantra's but it would cost extra because thats a mid-size. However Hyundai classified this car as a compact! I had a reservation for a compact and I paid for a compact, I got a subcompact and a person at the counter that didn't care. I make it a point not to do business with people who cheat me, I will not be renting from Thrifty again.

Pros: When I returned the car I was with my 2 year old so the guys cleaning the car just gave me a lift to the airport. I didn't have to lug my kid, luggage and car seat to the bus etc. So helpful and appreciated!!!

Quick and easy with only minor issues
Pros: Quick and easy.
Cons: Thrifty put on a charge for satellite radio at a charge of $7.99 PER DAY!!! I was never asked if I wanted this. Luckily, the charge was taken off when I complained.
When booking online, said I would get a certain SUV or something similar. Ended up getting a sedan.
Pros: The guy at the check in counter was very very although at drop off they were closed so we used the drop box.
Cons: I switched from dollar to Ace because for the same price is get a full size car opposed to an intermediate car. Well Ace full size cars are a tiny little Kia that was smaller than the corolla I would've gotten at Dollar for same price. Also the car smelled of smoke really bad and was bothersome the entire week. Not a good experience and I would make a different choice next rental that will not be Ace.

Pros: The customer service agent was great! She was very kind and thorough.

Poor customer service on the front side
Pros: The car was perfect for my needs, which were minimal - no extensive driving. The young man who assisted me with my drop-off of the car provided excellent customer service. He was very polite, he met me at the car, advised me of the procedure, checked me out, met me inside and gave me a receipt.
Cons: Surly attitude & poor customer service of the agent, who handled my pickup, who tried to upsell me to a bigger car, not very polite & delivered the car to a curb 10 yds from where I was standing. Altho' I was on crutches w/a a suitcase, he made no attempt to assist me. In fact, he jumped out of the car after popping the trunk, left the car running & disappeared inside, leaving me to hobble over to the car unattended. Deeply disappointing. I have already told several people about this and will tell more.

Pros: Easy & courteous pick up and drop off both. Car was perfectly adequate (it was a Nissan Rouge and in truth, I thought it felt cheap but who cares? I was driving it for 3 days, not buying it). Price was excellent. Car was clean. No problem!

Cons: Instructions for returning the car were not clear (there was no attendant receiving returns when I arrived: do we leave the key in it or return it to the desk?) but this was answered quickly.

Pros: The service at the rental counter was very friendly, and the car was exactly as advertised. The car was very new (less than 3000 miles), and in perfect condition. The price was less than the other companies in the same rental car center at KCI.

Pros: Staff was courteous
Cons: I chose Payless because on kayak it stated it was located in the airport and I paid more assuming I didn't have to take a shuttle off site. All car rentals were offsite so not worth paying more. I was disappointed that kayak didn't have updated info.
Separate issue.... When returning the vehicle, they said I should go inside and wait in line for a receipt. This is the only car rental company that doesn't use a handheld device to print receipt for customer in the parking lot. Get with the times!!

Pros: They left the tv on when they left so I was entertained while trying to make other arrangements
Cons: Made the reservation so that I could drive 60 miles from the airport to a funeral. My flight landed at 9:45pm and I had reserved for 10pm. Arrived at the rental location at 10:05 to find that they had completely closed at 10 and were nowhere to be found.
