Rent from the car rental center. Not an off-site company. The extra cost is with it and you'll end up paying it one way or the other anyways.

Verified travelerAug 2026

Compact SUV is very convenient. Check-in in advance.

LeonAug 2026

Download the parking app. Dont get the sun pass EZ pass. No need.

Verified travelerJul 2026

Off airport locations are easier if being at the airport isn’t a necessity

HeatherAug 2026

Stick to the major providers and ask the toll policy in advance.

RichardApr 2026

Just book from one of the companies at the airport car rental facility. Save yourself time, hassle and probably money.

Verified travelerMay 2026

Yes, rent it when you get there to avoid paying an extra day.

Verified travelerApr 2026

Avoid off brand rental car companies- they are not worth the hassle and often cost just as much as national companies.

MoniqueDec 2025

Get your own roll pass if you can. It will save you a lot of money rather than paying for the company pass.

Verified travelerFeb 2026

It's better to pay a little extra money and use a reputable rental company than to be tricked into thinking you're paying less at a cheap company.

Verified travelerJan 2026

There is a Florida 3rd party liability fee of 40$ per day mandatory , and a few other fees, so keep this in mind.

Verified travelerJan 2026

Check pickup location to ensure that it is same as booked

Verified travelerJan 2026

Check all the pricing details before you book

Verified travelerJan 2026

Be advised that the rental center closes between 2am and 5am. You will be stranded if your plane ends up arriving during that window. Very negative experience for a traveler whose plane was late, and now people have to sleep on concrete, scared, not knowing if they are going to be mugged while they're stranded & waiting for 5am. For the other 21 hours of the day, there IS a shuttle that efficiently transports people from the terminals to the car-rental center. It takes a bit of walking to find the shuttle. But the system is designed MUCH more efficiently at FLL airport than at MIA airport.

MonaJun 2025

Bring your insurance policy with you, don’t let the car rental agents bamboozle you into purchasing insurance.

DanielaApr 2025

Use Major, Reputable Companies! Stick to trusted brands with strong customer service records (like ACE, Enterprise, Hertz, etc.) even if the price is slightly higher — it’s worth it for peace of mind. Check Reviews First! Always read the recent reviews for the exact location you are renting from — not just the overall company. Watch out for Upsell Tactics! Some locations will claim they “ran out” of your car class to upsell you. Insist on what you booked or ask for a free upgrade if they can’t honor it. They should either upgrade you for free or honor the same rate — not extort you for more money. Know your rights. Beware of Hidden Fees like when they try to tack on extra insurance, “transfer fees,” or other made-up charges. Know what you agreed to pay and stand your ground.

Verified travelerMar 2025

Absolutely confirm with the rental car company whether or not you’ll be forced to accept their insurance policy. Bring a copy of your insurance policy deck page or have it on your phone. And whatever vehicle you rent, be sure to understand all its features and don’t mistake side mirror blindspot warning lights for blinker signals like I did. They mean practically the opposite thing. If they’re on or flashing, it means there’s someone in your blind spot. Check the fuel gauge before you leave the lot and if it is below what you think it should be or you are not willing to ignore any shortfall, take a photo of it and show it to the rental company, perhaps for a discount, if you feel it’s worth it.

Verified travelerMar 2025

Renting a small vehicle will be to your advantage because of the tight parking in the city at this time of year. Check out the car for previous dings and damage to protect yourself.

JeffMar 2025

Give yourself plenty of time to pick up your rental. The site we use closed at 5 o’clock. We landed at Fort Lauderdale at 4:10 but it took nearly 45 minutes for Uber to arrive and to navigate rush-hour traffic. I called the Hertz office three times to let them know we’d possibly be late But they were rather indifferent and basically said you need to be here before we close. We made it just in the nick of time so all ended well. But if you’re going to arrive at their site after 5 o’clock, do not pick up a rental offsite. Pick it up at the airport.

OlusApr 2025

Try to find reliable rental companies and before you rent make sure they are operating inside of airport.

Verified travelerApr 2025

Rent from the on airport rentals and do not rent in advance due to payments not being refundable

Verified travelerMay 2025

Rent from a reputable company and check for ALL the expenses that will be attached to your rental.

Verified travelerMar 2025

Book from the rental companies on site at the airport, otherwise susceptible to bait and switch.

Vu HuyMar 2025

Dont book outside airport, they will charge extra as foreigner. At airport make sure bring passport.

DavidApr 2025

Traffic is heavy around the airport, fuel is easy to find.

Verified travelerMar 2025

Don’t pack car before starting it and making sure no maintenance issues. If issues, have a lot of patience because Budget customer service is horrible

Verified travelerMay 2025

Watch out for huge mandatory insurance charges that aren’t quoted in the original booking price.

Verified travelerJan 2025

any car will work as the roads are very good.

Verified travelerDec 2024

Car wiz wants 300k in insurance and most people don’t have that so you will pay extra at the counter. Video and take pics of the car before hand for security purposes.

AncaJan 2025

Be careful when you see a low price!! Read carefully what the expect from you.

Verified travelerJan 2025

Rent at airport if possible.

Verified travelerFeb 2025

Never go offsite make sure your car rental companies at the airport once they get you offsite they can play games they feel they got you at that point. This is the second time this has happened to us different companies both in Florida one Miami one Fort Lauderdale. The other company was called horsepower

Verified travelerJan 2025

Rent from an agency at the airport terminal. Do not go offsite and especially not CarWiz.

Verified travelerSept 2024

We booked with Budget and were even offered an upgrade. They were on-airport while CarWize was off-airport, which would have made a big difference for us at the time of night we were to arrive. Very happy with Budget thank you!!

Verified travelerSept 2024

I would advise anyone to use your own insurance and fill up the tank yourself. It’ll save you a little bit of money.

Verified travelerNov 2024

Tell the customer that they need proof of insurance before booking and get people who speak English on site to support.

Verified travelerNov 2024

Have all of your insurance information printed before arriving. Check to make sure there is a return shuttle for early flights

DanielNov 2024

Use your own insurance...more well known names are more likely to be at airport

paulSept 2024

allow time for the rental car shuttle and paperwork at the counter

PeterNov 2024

Shop around for a good price before booking

Verified travelerOct 2024

Use budget or sixt or any company major company. The super cheap rentals are NOT worth it and end up not being as good a deal anyway

GwendalynJul 2024

We renting from budget and it was a better experience. I would recommend renting from know brands and making sure they have a service counter at the actual air port instead of just a phone number.

Verified travelerJun 2024

We booked the SunPass and are glad we did. It covered all of our toll costs and enabled us to utilize the express lanes.

Verified travelerAug 2024

Fuel was not full tank as it said in the contract paperwork. No one near picking up car to validate and no time to waste for us. But everything fixed later with phone call to customer service. While returning to airport, the shuttle was packed and took time for everyone to get seated. Next time I’ll keep in mind for extra time. We were rushing.

AlanAug 2024

As I said, people need to know that you need your insurance card and the declarations page from your insurance company. My advise is to decline the toll coverage and use the "no toll roads' option on Google Maps. Otherwise, the cost of the tolls option is unreasonably expensive.

JordanJun 2024

If you’re in a rush and not traveling through terminal 1 and your car is off site, just Uber to your car rental instead of using the shuttles

DanAug 2024

Make sure you read and understand the’fine print’ when you try to rent in Florida, as a Florida resident!!!

Verified travelerJun 2024

Make sure you know exactly how to get to car rental location before arriving.

Verified travelerApr 2024

Sometimes it's better to rent from the neighborhood if you can. You not only support the community but you also save time by not standing in long lines at the airport.

Verified travelerMar 2024

We rented an SUV It was perfect for 4 adults and our luggage. We got the sun pass for toll roads. Definitely recommend going that route.

Verified travelerMar 2024

If you do “offsite” rental cars keep in mind you will pay less but don’t be in a hurry bc it will take longer. That’s the trade off. Also have your insurance details (including coverages) ready for the agent for it to go smoothly.

Verified travelerApr 2024

Call car rental desk and inquire about insurance requirements. Unless you have one of the top 5 national insurers, expect hefty add-on insurance at time of pick up. Rental car was cheaper than Uber for our group.

Verified travelerApr 2024

Next time we disembark at Port Everglades and need a car for the day, we’ll just rent one from the airport and look for one that has a shuttle from Port Everglades.

MarkMar 2024

There is a shuttle bus to/from terminal to car rental location so if you are a 1st timer at airport renting a car that would have been nice to know

Verified travelerApr 2024

Make sure you get the toll pass if you're driving on any toll roads. There is no way to pay otherwise.

Verified travelerApr 2024

make sure that if your flight is delayed to super late, that you contact your rental car company in advance

Verified travelerApr 2024

Cars are scratched, go around and mark carefully before leaving. Ignore upsells for tolls, insurance, and upgrades

Verified travelerMar 2024

If you’re coming in early keep in mind that don’t clean cars till 6 am so beware

WillardMay 2024

Don’t forget to bring your SunPass, or pay for one when you get here.

ValeriaApr 2024

Make clear insurance policy requirements to rent the car.

Verified travelerJan 2024

Keep the speed limit , there are cops everywhere!

Verified travelerDec 2023

Avoid these smaller rental car agencies that tend to lure you in with low advertised prices but then hit you with a ton of fees. The larger and more reputable agencies will ultimately cost you less and you will have a MUCH better experience.

Verified travelerSept 2023

Yo tome el toll pass por día....pero es mejor el ilimitado ya que hoy en día los peajes son muchos!!!

Verified travelerSept 2023

Lots of traffic, not really any down time!

MatthewNov 2023

Florida drivers are aggressive. If you drive the speed limit, stay in right lane.

markJun 2023

If you are going to be on the highways, toll roads and express lanes do not take cash. The tolls are levied with license plate readers or transponders. I would recommend getting this service as express lanes and toll roads are common in South Florida.

LisaJul 2023

We drove to Orlando and back, the 450 mile cap was just enough. We did the pre-pay toll option which saved us some money.

Verified travelerJun 2023

Use your membership cards for car rentals to avoid waiting in line and watch for extra charges being added to your bill.

Rent from this Enterprise location!!!!

NickJun 2023

Driving in south Florida is nuts. Lots of cars going a LOT faster than the traffic (which is already about 10 over the limit) combined with plenty of cars going well below the traffic. It's the mixing of south florida youthful energy with south florida retirement community on the roads.

markJun 2023

Pay with a visa or MasterCard and then only get the insurance that will cover the Credit Card deductible - $4.99 a day. If you do not use the turnpike or express lanes, do not get the toll coverage - which is $14.99 a day.

Verified travelerAug 2023

Driving is ok in Fort Lauderdale; pay attention to all street signs. Some areas have red light cameras which is fine. Stay out of the express lanes if you don't have the SunPass. Drive safe.

AshleyJul 2023

Make sure to ask if they have capability of having a different drop off location from the pick up site

Verified travelerJun 2023

MichaelJun 2023

People drive crazy in Florida, either too slow or too fast.

Verified travelerJul 2023

Watch out for the cops and be vigilant

AmirMay 2023

Make sure you are renting from the airport location and not downtown if you're flying in. And consider purchasing or bringing a toll road tag with you to avoid ridiculous extra charges if you're planning to drive toll roads and don't want to pay a ridiculous premium to either get the tag from the rental company or to get the toll billed by mail.

Advise future Tesla car clients that they can only charged in a Tesla Super charge station. The car adaptor does not fit the regular charge station.

Drive carefully in South Florida since most drivers are careless.

Fort Lauderdale is city that revolves around relaxation and simplicity, which is only magnified when you decide to give yourself the freedom of renting a car. Fort Lauderdale has beautiful beaches that provide an array of activities and opportunities to enjoy the glorious Florida sunshine. Take the opportunity to drive west to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Everglades National Park, and appreciate the subtropical environment overflowing with fauna and native animals.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has plenty of major hire companies to choose from, conveniently all located together in their hire Car Center. If you arriving in Terminal 1, simply walk across the pedestrian bridge toward Concourse B and you will arrive at the hire Car Center. If you arrive at either Terminal 2, 3, or 4, there is a shuttle bus that takes you directly to the hire Car Center. Fort Lauderdale is situated only 21 miles north of Miami; this is an alternative flight destination that may be more convenient and affordable, as it is a larger airport.
There are certain highways nearby Fort Lauderdale with tolls, including the Florida Turnpike, Alligator Alley (1-75), and Bee Line Expressway. Be careful to plan your driving route accordingly and ensure that toll payment conditions are clearly outlined in your hire agreement. Turning right on a red light is legal unless otherwise indicated.
You can enjoy far fewer cars on Fort Lauderdale roads in comparison to major cities, as people are often out enjoying the glorious weather and landscapes the beach metropolis has to offer. During the evening rush hour, the I-95 Highway is the most likely to experience congestion and cause delays. Warm and sunny weather is common and cars will flock to the beaches along the coastline, so be mindful of this and give yourself extra time to reach your destination on a hot day.

The car stink like cigarette smoke, I couldn’t dive with the windows up. And then upon return they told me a cap on the bumper was missing and they were putting in a claim bc it wasn’t there before (WHICH IT WAS!) I went from the airport to a gated community residence and back to the airport. They don’t have good checks prior to rental, no one walks the car with you, no one was even AVAILABLE to do this with you. I will never rent from sixt again.

Staff was awesome when i picked up the car. However, the supervisor was rude and dismissive when I dropped the car off in Atlanta. I tried to tell her the cruise control wasn't working and all she cared about was whether or not my Sunpass worked. She completely ignored me. The gentleman checking the car in was extremely professional.

The clerk at the counter lied to Me saying there were no cars available when the lot was full. Then she rented me a car with an upgrade charge for the same size vehicle that I had already reserved and pre-paid for. She charge me an extra $47, there are no cars available unless I I get up charged for the same size vehicle!!! This employee took advantage of me because it was late night travel and no other rental choices.

I had to extend my rental for 16 hours and they shafted me with a $150 dropoff fee plus a $50 change fee plus plus.. cost me almost as much as the week long rental. Disgusting. Completely unwilling to be flexible. Money gr ubbing company. Kayak was of no help. Using kayak effectively disables your ability to modify the reservation through the rental company, and kayak offers zero customer service on car rentals. Every time i tried to connect, call woukd regulary disconnect. Buyer beware of kayak and of fox

They require a $500 deposit which is insane and ridiculous. I had to cancel my entire trip because I didn't have the $500 deposit. I needed that $500 for my trip, I didn’t have that money to give to them so they can hold onto it for fun.

Fox uses deceptive pricing to make their rental cars seem cheaper than other major rental agencies. I rented from fox thinking I was getting a great deal, at the pickup counter the fox representative used scare tactics to get me to buy this extra rental insurance. I didn’t realize at the time my current auto insurance does in fact cover rental vehicles. This unnecessary insurance cost $28.99 per day, there was also a multitude of BS small charges and fees that jacked the price up to about the same as other rental car companies. The bottom line Fox has decent cars but their pricing is deceptive.

Online system to submit claim malfunctioned many times before being able to submit the claim. Also, when we called customer service, we were asked to go directly to the rental counter at the airport.

We had a reservation, but when we arrived, we were told the car was sold out. We were stuck there for about three hours and witnessed them giving a car to someone else. Despite begging and even offering to pay a higher price to get a car, they refused to help. In the end, we had to make a new reservation with another car rental company and ended up paying ten times the original price. Economy is an unreliable and untrustworthy car rental company that completely ruined our vacation in Fort Lauderdale. If I could, I would give them zero stars.

Super frustrating. They limited mileage because of a Florida license and wouldn’t change the reservation to the spouse and they do not allow you to use your own toll pass. Even bought a new sunpass and when we called sunpass they said ace doesn’t allow it. So we had to either add an extra hour each way on our trip (with little kids) or pay $15/day penalty plus tolls. Only other option was to pay $13.99/day for unlimited tolls. Car was just okay. Kind of beat up. Won’t be doing a rental with them again.

The employee was wonderful. The car was clean and new, but we booked a midsize SUV and got a ‘Kicks’ that was uncomfortable and so small my husband and my elbows were bumping each other over the center console . My real issue is the up charging. I paid ahead of time online to save some money, and when we arrived, they tacked on $400+ of extra fees for tolls, another driver, etc. It honestly felt like a huge scam.

Terrible experience. Would NEVER use them again. It took an hour in a very short line to get to even speak to someone at the desk. They were screwing around with us asking for auto insurance (which I don’t have and have never been asked for when renting a car, and my credit card covers rentals). They said my credit card coverage wasn’t enough. I’ve rented cars plenty of times and have never been forced into buying MORE auto insurance coverage. When my partner asked to switch the reservation into her name because she did have auto insurance, they told us that we could not do that. They also said we could not make a new reservation with them at the desk which was completely false as they advertised available cars to anyone who wanted to walk up and make a reservation. They took their sweet time despite being told we had a rush to the hospital for a family emergency. Completely lacking empathy and any sort of morals. I would never rent from them again. It was an absolute nightmare and full on scam.

Wait at the airport was half an hour - that's too long. Car was very old - worked fine, but couldn't take client in my car. Ended up calling Uber to get to the restaurant. They seem like a sketchy operation. Required a $2k security deposit on a car with so much physical damage I am not sure I will get my deposit back. The car had a visible warning light when rented. I used my own insurance. When I wanted to just use their own collision insurance they said I had to purchase all of their coverages for $80 per day. Not worth the risk to deal with them.

The first car had breaks problems and the AC didn’t function properly and in Florida you really need a working AC. We miss 3 days of fun because we had to stay home because it was dangerous to drive with my small kids in the car since they were overheating. After making me go to 2 différents locations to change it for nothing since they had no similar car in stock, they gave me a Waggoner that was old and shaking while driving on the highway. Very bad experience, I will NEVER reserve a car with Alamo again. Costumer service is total garbage.

When I went to the rental counter with my paperwork, I started to ask a question, and I was just cut off. "I just need to see your credit card and Driver's License. I gave her the ID and she just turned away from me. She then handed me a contract to sign. I looked at it and asked why $38 was added to my bill and she said you came early so that's an extra day. I thought if Ii rented it at 9:30 and returned it at 9:30 I was OK. Lesson learned. I asked if I could pick my car and she said No, that is the only car they have.... I was thinking of buying a Rav4 or Tucson and wanted to test one. She said no! Even though we just walked past them in the lot. Very Blunt Cust. Service! I asked a different agent and they said it is the trap when you pre-rent and tell them a time.

There were hidden cost. The staff was not friendly and told me the insurance we paid with kayak was not the one that they required so I had to pay an extra insurance to be able to pick up the car. Then they said my drivers license was not easy to read so they made me wait longer (this didn’t happen to me the week before when I rented with other company using the same drivers license)

I like that Hertz is pushing forward with AI and the contactless rental. I was supposed to be on the Gold Board, so I could just look at the board and go find my car. I checked in correctly and everything was ready. But the flight took off 4 hours late, landing at 3:30am -- after the FLL rental center was closed. My (and other renters') reservations disappeared. Thankfully, Hertz brought on a human a little after 4am, and they helped the line of waiting customers. Hertz was able to match most people up with the car type they had reserved. What disappointed me EXTREMELY is that Hertz KNEW some of its customers were coming on that flight that now landed in the middle of the night... yet Hertz didn't send A SINGLE TEXT after the one saying they'd text us 1 hour prior to landing. It's as if the Hertz system fell apart. None of us (who were already exhausted and confused by the car-rental center being closed) received a text confirming that a car would be ready, nor that they knew our flight was coming,... Communication from Hertz just vanished.

Great experience all around but the location and drop off in Miami is a pain. I went around in circles for 30 mins until I finally found the place. Also you have to go up to level 5 and then come back down to level and 1 to check out. Not ideal . Car was clean and employees great .

Unless something changes, my credit card reflects a charge of over $200 for a one day rental. For a Nissan Kicks. Because I checked in online, and opted to pick up without standing in line, there was no notification of a hold or additional charge being made. I'm going to see what happens in a few days, and if this is not corrected I will obviously have to address this. It's really frustrating and annoying - makes one want to rather drive, not fly, and then not have to be subjected to this.

Awful, only 2 staff working, customers had been in line for over an hour to pick up their vehicle. We couldn’t wait, called to cancel, received a cancellation number verbally and was told that we would receive an email confirmation which never happened. No matter how good the price is being offered if the service doesn’t support the offer then it’s not worth it. We would’ve been late for a meeting if we had waited,we took an Uber.

My issue was - in the hotel I was at, I had to use valet parking - the valet driver hit a pipe with the rental car. When I tried to call the official Thrifty number on the contract, I couldn't get a live person AND (as crazy as it seems) kept bringing my to a sales line selling Life Lock. This happened about 10 times. Not kidding. After 9.5 hours of phone calls, paperwork and bringing the damaged car to the Miami airport, I got a replacement car. The customer service person told me to bring the car to the Miami Airport. Note - when I brought it to the damaged car to the Miami Airport, the person at the Thrifty car rental refused to replace it. Again, not kidding. After about 1 hour of arguing with him and trying to call customer service back, they FINALLY accepted it. The experience was terrible. And, I'm not kidding about the 9.5 hours from the time of the accident - 3:58PM till 1:30AM I was dealing with this issue.

After the blizzard in the northeast, we arrived at the rental car counter after the two hour window and they would not honor the car rental rate that we signed up for. I would never recommend anyone or rent a car from this company that was terrible and terrible business. There were delays and canceled flights all morning that day on 24 February. Our flight was the first flight out of JFK after all of the delays. They had the cars and they just chose not to honor our agreement because. they wanted more money, greedy bastards!!!!!!!

Attendant told us to pick one out and go. Nice and smooth return. Person checking us back in was very nice.

I showed him my reservation sheet and he said it didn’t matter! The person at the counter for Dollar was Antony! He bragged about what he did to the young man that check at the out going station! Awful experience. Instead of having customer service reps they have booths where you talk to someone virtually and it glitches constantly and takes over an hour to check out, even with a reservation. It was listed as $100 cheaper than the competition, but by the time we left they had managed to add over $200. When you drop-off there's not really anyone to talk to and there's no office and you have to wait in the hot sun for a shuttle. The signage is poor and everyone is unclear about what they are supposed to do. Every customer I saw was angry and frustrated and talking about his they will never do this again. It's worth it to pay more to get your car directly at the airport because they will waste huge amounts of your time and energy.

We were told whet to park the return and then we were told that the shuttle was picking us up about 1000 yards away and we had to move our 3 full size pcs of luggage ourselves work little assist over uneven pavement. We are both about 70 so it was a hardship. Since the plane was delayed my reservation was canceled. I do not know car models very well at all I'm 6 feet and the sales agent offered me a Nissan Sentra which I only later learned is a compact car My original reservation was for an intermediate size car. I think I had a really great price originally. I am fairly certain I did not get my original good deal. But I learned a valuable lesson. From now on only Enterprise.

U-Save does not reveal prior to booking the car, that they do not accept most major insurances like mine (Geico). Even with full coverage rental insurance, U-Save will only rent to you, if you pay the obnoxious daily insurance premium that they offer. U-Save also charges an unbearable deposit ($1500-$2000). I did not get the vehicle. I went to my hotel and rented from another company the next day.

We rented a car. Beyond that everything about the experience was extremely poor and almost felt like a scam. The pick up is off site, serviced by a shuttle. The check out took 90 minutes and the insurance issues were extensive. They clearly mark down the car cost and make it all up on insurance and then some. I even got the kayak insurance ahead hoping to manage cost. They refused to accept it. This all just feels dishonest. The car we ordered was a midsize SUV. We got a compact. The car worked fine. The check in process was disorganized and there was no parking. The shuttle was delayed. Overall I would do everything you can to stay away from this company. The price you see online is not the price you pay.

The first time I called they said that it would be returned within 7 to 15 business days and that I could call back after that if it hasn't happened. I just called them and it's been over 20 days and he was trying to give me some excuse that they told him that it was going to be 30 to 40 days and when I asked him to clarify that he said he was going to call me back and he hung up. Terrible terrible company I really want a refund if I'm being honest I'll never use Kayak again if this is the kind of things that happen when you do

I have 2 complaints about the pickup process: 1) The address for pickup was WRONG and must be corrected! Even thought the new address isn’t far from the printed one, when you’re carrying luggage and carry-ons, even 2 blocks feels like a mile! 1a) The new address has NO SIGNAGE!! So even though you’re standing in front of the correct (new) street number (which, btw, I only learned about because 2 guys from the printed address came out to my Uber and asked which car rental company I was renting from (I guess some companies still operate out of the original address and some out of the new one)), honestly the doors are dark-tinted and with no sign above the main entrance it feels like you’re walking into a shady nightclub! THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED!! 2) The pickup process TAKES FOREVER!! They have a couple of agents at the counters, but it seems they do absolutely nothing other than maybe print out a copy of your contract (if you request a hard copy)! The rental process itself happens over a video call with an agent in a closed cabin. There are no chairs or stools in there and I have a disability and had to stand in there for ALMOST AN HOUR before I could get the keys out of a lock-box and then go to the counter to get the contract print-out. I was almost late for work, even though I’d reserved the car online and the process should’ve been FAR QUICKER! Also, there was almost no one else at the car rental location! I’d hate to think how long this would take were it crowded in there!🤦🏻‍♀️ The return was much faster and easier, but that pickup process also MUST BE IMPROVED!!

Worst experience of my life. When I got there, they refused to accept my insurance even though I had better coverage than they required. I was forced to purchase their “insurance” for an extra $300! When I commented on it, the guy at the counter said, “You only paid $83, what do you expect?” Basically it’s a total scam. The first car they brought had bald tires and I had to demand a different car. When dropping it off, there were no signs or people directing, so I unloaded the car and went inside to return the key. The owner told me to go back outside and drive around the corner to the drop off area. I had to repack my bags and then there was a lineup of cars and I missed the shuttle back to the airport. The company is a total scam. There were 4 other groups of people who had come to rent a car and there were none available to rent. I felt like I had no choice but to take the rental in the first place because I was exhausted from a red-eye, cross-country flight and renting the day of at another place would be even more expensive. This company should not be on your website. It needs to be reported and shut down.

We were never picked up! I called after waiting for 45 minutes and the person who finally picked up transferred me back to the audio instructions before I could even finish telling her what was going on. The audio instructions says that the truck was clearly marked with the logo and there were no trucks with the name SURPRICE on it! When we tried to cancel after an hour and a half the site wouldn't let us. We ended up renting from another place because we saw that company truck come and go multiple times during our hour and a half wait on SURPRICE to show up.😡 Horrible experience!

After reserving the car online, we were hit with many fees without proper explanation. On Kayak website it showed a price, but then in person it was 10x more, due to florida fees which weren’t explained. We got to the rental office and the lady explained the rental packages like 10 times to us because how poorly explained they were. Honestly just stick to another company that shows all the costs before hand so you don’t get pressured into making a decision.

Paid “full” amount up front at booking, then got hit with double the cost at the rental site. Extra “fees” taxes, etc. Had no choice but to take what was given considering we were out of town and the rental car place is off site from the airport. Given a terrible vehicle. Dents, dings all over, needed wheel alignment, suspension squeaking, wheel shaking, had to fill up tires multiple times.

What a rip-off! $321 for 4 days for a Toyota Camry that stunk, rattled, and was not in the best of shape. I thought since the advertised price was $14/ day, plus the $90 insurance I purchased would be it. The girl at the desk told me that Florida requires this insurance and that insurance and this coverage. She lied. I found out after the fact all the things she said were untrue. For this price, I could have gotten a nicer car, with a reputable company, and felt so much better about my first-time renting a car in another state.

They would not rent me a car without trying to charge me $65 additional to the Pre-paid rental cost and Pre-paid insurance cost I have already purchased in advance. Then they said my Pre-paid rental agreement had expired, because their airport shuttle driver was late in picking me up from the airport, and I would have to pay extra for another rental car + the $65 extra insurance charge!!! I already have $300,000 insurance coverage from my insurance carrier and another Rental Coverage policy they sold me when I pre-paid for the rental agreement 2-months earlier! SCAM! SCAM! SCAM!

The insurance cost the same amount as the rental. I also was dropping off the rental and the customer service was horrible. I asked if they can do something for the gas that I filled for full tank when I was given with a quarter tank and the response could have been simply no but the comment was if you want you can take the gas from the tank. It was so rude. I would never recommend York rental. I rent at many countries and this experience was the worst.

Car rental agency requires everyone to purchase insurance. I had collision included on my credit card- a waiver from the card company is required. This took me about 45 mins to obtain. For liability insurance- Only a handful of insurance companies are accepted and they’re all US based insurers.. Strange As I’ve never had that issue with other companies in the US coming from Canada. Nice single happy camper observed leaving the rental counter.

Day and night there is no one there. You have to talk to a video screen. Customer service was a negative experience- nothing positive. I have traveled for 40 years and my experience with Right Car was by far the one of the worst travel experience I’ve had. The process of picking up and dropping off the car is a cumbersome process. It frustrates and infuriates the user. The positive was the car was clean and worked fine.

This was very difficult. I hated the entire experience Off airport is fine but talking to the agent through a screen in a small glass closet is not. Hard to understand made me worry about what the end cost was going to be. Wanted to charge me an addional amount per day because of my age. But then he said he could work a deal . Then he listed all the charges for car damage bla blah bla so scary. When he but the agreement on the screen it was difficult to read because of the font. By this time it's dark you cannot see if or where any damage to the car is scary again. Turned the car in on time wanted to get an all clear on damages to the car but that agent didn't speak English. Thank goodness for my Uber driver he spoke Spanish and got the all clear but no receipt. I will NEVER use again. Sandra

In my view, this company appears to be engaging in deceptive practices. I booked a car through Kayak at a very competitive rate, but when I arrived to pick it up, the company refused to honor the reservation price. They claimed I was required to purchase additional insurance because my existing coverage is from Canada, even though my policy fully covers rental cars in the U.S. and I also have supplemental coverage through my credit card. I have rented cars in the U.S. many times and have never encountered this issue with any other rental agency. I also heard other customers, including those with U.S. insurance, raise similar complaints, which suggests the company may be using this as a way to charge customers more. In the end, I paid ten times the amount I had reserved. I do not believe this company should be listed on Kayak’s website.

The building was small and run down with work being done inside so ceiling tiles were down and we had to step over wires. I was forced to buy their insurance. I travel multiple times a year and have never had to show my personal insurance to a rental car company. My car was $83 and they made me get insurance that cost an additional $170. I had to examine my own car and take pictures. The parking lot has no signage so it's extremely easy to pass on a multi lane road.

This is essentially a bait and switch scam. They advertise a low price but when you get to the desk they will say that they have given your car away and you must pay an upgrade fee 4-5x the original price in order to get a new car. We saw them do this to other people while we were waiting. Even though they charge your credit card for the full rental period when you book, they will only hold your car for a single hour. Beyond the fact that you have already paid for the full rental period and they should therefore hold the car for the full period, when coming from an airport where transit times are unpredictable, this is completely unrealistic. Because their location is far away from the airport, they are banking on you being unable to return to look for alternatives, especially if it is late. This company is owned by an umbrella company called ColUSA that owns several of these seemingly low-cost rental companies that give the illusion of competition and legitimacy as well as taking the reputation hit when things go wrong. Avoid this company.

Well I booked for $69. I knew it had to be too good to be true. It ended up costing over $325. Quite a big difference. They said they didn’t except my insurance that was $25 per day. There was a daily fuel surcharge but I was responsible for the fuel. I had to pre pay tolls at $20 per day. Plus other odd fees. There was also a $1000 hold on my credit card on top of the charge It is NOT at the airport. It is off site and you have to take 2 buses to get there. The worst part was, there was no one at the business to return the car. The doors were open but there were no employees. 3pm. Thankfully we left 3 hours before our flight. We waited over 30 minutes. No one. We finally got ahold of their Miami office. They had me turn the keys in to a guy out side who work for the car rental next door. She refused to give me proof of return or a receipt for over an hour. I had to trust she would email it. I had to catch a plane. Not to mention 2 buses to get back to the terminal. It was an awful experience. It ruined my trip. The fact you offer this as an option is shameful. It’s a scam.

We prepaid for a vehicle, pickup after 12pm- there was no way to change the pickup time when making reservations. Our flight didn't arrive until 5pm but given that we had prepaid for our desired vehicle, it seemed logical they would have one there for us. During my flight I get a notice that they canceled car reservation since had not picked up yet, even though it was prepaid! Upon landing, the main phone number would not provide me a phone number for the specific pickup location, said that they would not refund my money, and that i needed to go to the location to see in any car was available for me, at additional costs to me. So we had to leave the airport, unsure if we had a rental car, get to the car agency, and they only have SUVs available for TWICE the price of the car we had reserved! So we are stranded if we dont agree to the additional price. Very much a "Bait and Switch". Remember, we had PAID UP FRONT, there was no risk of them loosing rental money by holding our reserved car for us.

Please please please save yourself from a rental hell. Stick with one of the big names at the airport rental place. Not the bus outside of the airport to save a few dollars. We needed a minivan and they were the only ones to have one - so we took a chance and it was the absolute worst. They have no one working so everything took sooooo so long. They want to charge you for everything and only verbally talk you through it at a speed in which you can’t understand. Then when you try and ask clarifying questions, they just get annoyed as if you should have heard it the first time. They literally have like 2 people there and had a line of so many people for over an hour. Also, we live on the opposite side of the state of Florida and thought we had unlimited miles…. Nope. They said if you live within the state you only get 50 a day because of Uber/doordash etc. Clearly I didn’t go on vacation with 3 small children and click the extra 4-5 places in order to see that living in Florida voids the unlimited, so then we were forced to pay overage amounts bc we drove to key west and back. We never got the car but paid in advance. We demand a full refund. The rep was extremely rude. Never, NEVER rent a car here under ANY circumstances. I bought a new car 2 weeks ago and through some snafu at Allstate Insurance, the app didn’t show collision insurance. (on a $27K financed car) I immediately called Allstate and had them fix the snafu. The rude rep at addcar told me I needed it to show I’d had the insurance for 90 days. I ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS! We had no car for our vacation, (hello Uber) and we lost all the money we prepaid to Kayak.

Renting a car from Routes was the worst experience I've ever encountered, and other customers felt the same. I came prepared with my insurance declaration page, but they still charged more than the initial rental rate, claiming my deductible was too high. Apparently, they add collision and comprehensive deductibles together, and if both are over $1,000, they require a "waiver of deductible", which costs more than the car rental. To make matters worse, customers were waiting over an hour to be given a key and their car.

This place is a scam operation. They intentionally understaff their site, so even with a small load of customers, they keep you waiting for over 2 hours. Then, they attempt to add on extra fees above the booked price. I watched them continuously refuse to let the woman jn front of me decline their insurance. We ran into multiple people waiting in line who had to come back to try to protest addition fraudulent/double charges in their credit card. You should not list this site on your website.

it was terrible, pick up - drop of location was far away from airport , it took 2 hours to take a car, after I receive to airport. also, there was additional mandatory insurance fees, although I bought full covarage from online platform. That means, they doubled to price. Another problem was they gave me lower class car. That car was cheaper on your webside, I choiced more expensive one but they gave me cheaper one on your advertisement. When I deny it, they told me that both of them has 5 seat :) it was my worst rental experience.

I don't recommend. What is advertised online is not what you will pay. They force you to take their insurance even if you have full coverage with your credit card and with your personal car insurance. If you don't take their insurance they will just tell you that you can't rent and free to leave when you are already way out of the airport and have all your luggages around. The car is dirty and full of stains. They also say they will put a 300$ hold but in reality they will charge you 300$ on your credit card which they say will refund after 7 days! So that's already a lie to begin with. There is no hold and you end up dishing out and extra 300$ out of nowhere that you won't get right away once you return the car. Hotels put hold and release the hold after. Advantage charged us an extra 300$ The workers there don't really care. They also tell you to get the toll pass which is around 20$ USD every day because you will need it. They said going to FLL to Miami, you have no choice but to pass to a toll way. Good thing we didn't take it because it's a complete lie. I will avoid and reason learned!!

Be warned this company is a scam. This company is not Advantage they call themselves advantage EZ. We were taken by a shuttle with many other travelers a couple miles off site from the airport In Fort Lauderdale airport. A long line of people was in front of us and they were all visibly upset. They were being charged many times more than the deal they were offered online. I’m talking in one case $500 more and another case $1000 more. Many of these people had are already given this company their credit cards and when they change their mind hearing the prices, they were not given their deposits back. It’s just a horrible experience and a horrible that a company would do this to people that are starting their vacations. I’m contacting the Better Business Bureau and the state Attorney General‘s office of Florida. I hope Kayak sees this and remove them from their list of car rental companies.

Manipulated into having to spend an extra $755 for mandatory insurances and lied to about the sun pass. As we only went through one toll. They claimed there’d be soooo many. Gave use a low battery key fob and did not reimburse us for having to buy our own battery due to the stress of it dying and leaving us stranded. When asked for some customer service and compensation. We were ghosted through their email and then said they couldn’t help us at drop off and that I had to email the people that weren’t responding to us. I wonder if you guys could help since you made the deal so goddamn attractive online to only set us up for the trap we were about to walk into. Terrible experience. Won’t be recommending and will be actively trying to make people avoid their business unless I’m given some customer service at some point :)

Passenger van

I booked an 8-passenger vehicle with Carwiz well in advance, but when I arrived to pick it up, they told me it wasn’t available. No explanation, no real apology — just a choice between a refund or a 7-passenger van. With 8 people and luggage to transport, we were left with no real option but to take the smaller van. As a result, one of our passengers had to sit on the floor in the middle of the vehicle — not only incredibly uncomfortable, but clearly unsafe and irresponsible. Carwiz put us in a terrible position and didn’t offer any reasonable alternative or compensation beyond a vague apology. This kind of service is completely unacceptable, especially when dealing with transportation and safety. I won’t be booking with Carwiz again, and I suggest others think twice before trusting them with group travel.

Keep in mind that car hire insurances often have a deductible clause, which is the amount you’ll have to pay if something happens during the time of your hire. If you want to avoid unwanted surprises, you should consider adding a no-deductible option to your Fort Lauderdale car hire.
