Cons: I was told I would have to wait until a vehicle was available. There were 10 people ahead of me on the wait list. All had reservations too. They estimated I would have to wait 2 hours. The person next to receive a car on the list had already been there 2 hours. I cancelled my reservation and rented from National. It cost me an additional $100 over the three days to rent from National. I could still be in Tampa waiting for my rental reservation to be fullfilled. Totally unacceptable! Tony

Too long waiting in line to pickup vehicle
Pros: Found great price after checking multiple times over two months for a rental car. Car worked well.
Cons: Unnecessary long wait in line to pickup car. It seemed that the agents, of which there were not enough, took longer than usual to process each customer. They were "chatty" to get one to add on extras such as toll passes, pre-purchased gas and the like. Another customer, who had been three behind me in line, left the line and went to another provider. Apparently he rented a car from them as he had paperwork in his hand and was finished before I even got to the counter.

Cons: It was a surprise to pay for an upgrade. The "scheduled" car would not have worked -- no luggage space at all in the Kia Soul. The Altima was divine.
Cons: Vehicle was a little dirty, had Fruit Loops between seats and reeked of cigarette smoke. Vehicle had annoying noise and vibration above 40mph, would have exchanged it, but travel plans didn't allow.

Bait and switch
Pros: Everyone working for the location worked very, very hard and seem to be genuinely nice people who want to make it right.
Cons: I purchased a car, arrived at the appointed time and no car similar to what I purchased was available. I was "upgraded" to a smaller car at a price 40% above the agreed price, and was NOT upgraded for free as is customary. It turns out that this smaller vehicle would not work for us, and we had to delay our trip, waiting for another Hertz location to open the next morning and switch out the car for another closer to what we purchased. The price is still far, far above what was quoted and purchased and I'm very frustrated, but there was nothing that could be done since we needed the car and by that point we had no other option.
Also, the debit card procedure noted by other reviewers, and the mandatory additional credit hold, is frustrating as well. Hertz continually shows the lowest rates online, but unlike other companies, the price you actually pay can end up being much higher than you agree to.
The car itself was fine. The locations, both the one I purchased from and the one I swapped cars out at, were extremely busy and understaffed, but again, the people were helpful and tried their best.

Avoid if Possible
Pros: Not very much. The car was nice but the whole point of having a reservation went out the window with these "professionals."
Cons: I had a reservation but there was no vehicle for me and the guy working tried to "upgrade" me to a different car - Despite having a reservation and them not having the car I reserved. We went back and forth until he finally gave me the upgraded car at the same price as the car I originally reserved.

Pros: Our vehicle was nice and we got the size of car we wanted for once
Cons: I asked for my rental to be picked up at TPA and it was not for the airport but an off site location.
Their was a line of 15 people and 1 worker on site.
The terminal stations were not working for us to check in for our rental.
Our car was dented and damaged upon pick up.
Workers were wore so thin they did not provide any type of customer service. They simple got through each customer

Cons: I did not pick up this car since it was not located at the Hertz rental place at the Tampa International Airport. The hertz agent at the airport counter said Hertz would refund me and so I rented another car at the airport hertz desk. I have yet to get to speak to someone who can help me get my refund despite several phone calls. I have been placed on hold and the person never returned to the call. At this point in time I am not happy with Hertz.

Deceptive Counter Person
Cons: I've been renting cars for 25+ years. I always decline the coverages and I always bring back with a full tank.
Counter person said road hazard was mandatory and electing the Payless they fill up the tank was mandatory. I told her that couldn't be the case. She was firm in her stance. It was late and I needed to get on my way. It added about $150 to my rental.
I called while into my rental and got the manager and he took off the charges and apologized and said those were not mandatory but options..

Cons: Agent gave me too hard of a sale for car upgrade, optional insurance upgrades. Told me that optional empty tank return was mandatory, as was the optional roadside assistance. Read companies web site before you pick up your car. Know what is optional. Next time I'll use another company, not worth the effort.

Be wary of a local rental.
Cons: We were unable to rent this car. Upon arrival they said we needed to have a local bill as proof of residency, nothing else was acceptable. I don't know about you, but we don't generally travel with copies of bills on our person. There was nothing in this Kayak reservation that indicated we needed to bring one. We have traveled numerous times by renting the car the day before and returning it in time for our flight the next day. We ended up having to take the airport shuttle made for an even longer airport wait as bad weather made the driver show up early then our plane was hit by lightning before we arrived delaying the flight by several hours until they could get a replacement.

Pros: The car was okay, Someone most likely have been smoking in the car prior to my rental. The driver to the airport was professional and assisted .
Cons: 1. 1 st myself and approx. 12-14 other customers had to wait over and 1 hours in line before we were served. Their were no announcements made during this time as to why or anything else. Several customer left and went elsewhere for a car rental.
2. I was charged a different price than quoted online. I tried to explained but wasn't getting anywhere.
3 I have rented from Payless many times and normally their service is good.

Sales rep tried to sell me several useless options
Pros: Car was good: clean, new and totally exceeded my expectations.
Cons: 1. Immediately I was offered an "upgrade" in form of "What airline you were ?"; "Yes, Frontier offered you blah-blah-blah". When I declined it sales rep printed out a receipt for $60 more mentioning that the difference would be removed if I bring my car full, when I insisted that it works other way around and I am NOT signing this one and after manager's intervention I got a correct rental agreement corresponding to online quote I had to pull on my smartphone because rep tried to fool me so hard that hid printout of online reservation! Then the car condition: when I asked how could I sign that car was in perfect one BEFORE looking at the car I was assured that it was inspected. Then I found out antenna was broken and had to come back and change that slip. Be careful!

Pros: Car was OK.
Cons: 1) Flight delayed 5 hours. Came in late. Payless was closed from 1:00am to 5:00am.
2) Decided to wait 40 minutes for Payless to be open and send shuttle. Shuttle never came. We had a 5 year old with us! Is there no humanity?
3) Multiple calls to payless where they told us shuttle was on the way, they lied to us, it was not on the way.
4) at: 6:00 am, out of frustration, we took another rental car shuttle. They did not have a car for us, but got us eventually to Payless (Thanks!!).
5) Payless decided our contract was null and void since we were "not there on time" due to our 5 hour flight delay. Payless charged us more than the contract.
In Summary, if you are thinking of using Payless, pay more and save yourselves!!!!!! They are short staffed, and have no incentive to treat people well. They really don't care, in my experience, customers to them are an inconvenience.

Cons: The staff acted as if it was an imposition to interact with them. If you didn't look at the agreement before signing, you would incur multiple additional charges, and the staff person acted as if it were a sin to ask to have unwanted extras deleted. Pros: The rental that I had was very nice. The customer service was great. And the hours are great as well.
Cons: I didn't like that they didn't do a walk around the car with me. I mean, I took pictures anyway but that would save them a great deal in the future. I have nothing bad to really say about this place. They are super!
Cons: The man at the counter was flip and assumed he knew what he was doing without asking me enough questions, tried to give me someone else's way more expensive reservation. All figured out but not with any apologies.

Good for the money
Pros: Very easy to pick up and drop off. Had to exchange the first car because the check engine light came on but that was resolved with no issue.
Cons: I thought I paid for the rental when I first booked it. I'm going to have to sort through my emails and verify that I didn't get charged twice. But I'm sure if there is an issue, it will be fixed quickly.
Cons: Wish I had been informed, when I confirmed appointment and purpose for pickup, that this would not hold 12 persons plus their luggage.

Cons: Due to weather problems getting home, I needed to keep car an extra day. Somehow rate (in computer) got majorly messed up (much higher, of course). But easily fixed at counter, and I was on my way with problem fixed in less than 10 minutes.

Poor customer service
Cons: My reservation was not correct, I reserved a 5 seat, 5 suitcase size vehicle, and the Enterprise representative claimed it was a "Our choice" reservation, meaning they could give me whatever vehicle they had available. Also, I was not made aware of the very short office hours on Sunday for my drop-off, and the inability to do an after-hours drop off. I had to return the vehicle to the airport, incurring a drop off fee.

Pros: Called to confirm my car rental and the woman would not stop trying to upgrade me to a premium model and buy their gps unit. Just ridiculously dense and inconsiderate. They must get paid commission there. After I got off the phone and read some of the reviews (avg 1.5 stars) I made a reservation qith Alamo for $15 dollars more prepaid. Easiest car rental ever and great customer service (avg 4.4 stars).
If renting at TPA, avoid Thrify and Dollar at all costs!

Low priced car rental, but good value.
Pros: The rental was a very good value, car was clean and delivered quickly despite only one counter attendant. Despite being understaffed, the attendant was friendly and conversational, and patient with the multiple customers they were dealing with at the time.
Cons: Shuttle times to and from the Tampa airport were somewhat long. We didn't wait an hour as I've seen some reviews, but it's still more than most offsite car rentals. Saw several shuttles for other places come through multiple times before one ace rental did. Likely due to the understaffing mentioned before.
Cons: Big charge for Pass Plate when it seems they just take a picture of your plate and send it to the rental company which they would do anyway. No FOB and key was difficult to get in and out of lock.

Dirtiest and stinkiest rental EVER
Pros: New car but it was trashed. They tried to upgrade me to this car but it clearly wasn't ready.
Cons: Smelled like weed and completely filthy. I could barely see thru the windshield because it looked like they started to spray the car to be cleaned and just decided not to. Bad enough i was already waiting 40 minutes at 11pm to figure out what car they were going to give me. Took 30 minutes for the shuttle to come. Shuttle guy was very nice despite the long wait. Not worth saving the money!

Cons: The vehicle seemed to have food stains on the inside roof from a previous renter. Some of the features seemed to be falling apart like the gas tank cover. It appears as though there is little care taken of the cars between renters and they are definitely not cleaned, the windshield was absolutely filthy.

Not a bad experience!
Pros: It was pretty painless process. Cheap too! I opted for no insurance and they kind of hounded me about it. They never brought up the sunpass policy which I'd okay because I didn't use it. The rentals aren't brand new cars. There a some older vehicles with dents and bruises. Make sure you have them inspect the entire car before you take it. Customer service in person was just okay. But when I tried to call them, no one answered and I was on hold indefinitely. I just hung up. But, overall, if you want a car for just a few days and don't need to travel far, this is a good company to use.

Cons: Had to wait about 15 minutes for a shuttle at the airport and then had to wait 40 minutes in line before we could speak to a representative. When we returned the car, the computer system was down and they couldn't give us a receipt. They emailed us one later that day.
Cons: Rental was reserved for airport pickup and agent said it was at another location. Price for airport pickup was now double the price.
Went to offsite location and it was closed!!

Cons: The car was very shaky and the steering felt very loose but what was worse. After waiting for over an hour just in line to pickup my car. I had no choice in my selection. Then they doubled my cost. There were to be no addons at all. The only thing added was my account number with Dollar. The total cost of $62 and the rep verified that when I was checking in. When I paid just before my flight the woman charged me $126 - double of my total original cost. I did not see this until I was getting ready to board. I emailed them to request a refund and to find out exactly why my cost was double. There has never been a response. I want the additional charge refunded and no one has bothered to respond. Cons: when we got to the location via taxi they said they did not have any suv's to give us. They said since we did not book directly with them they don't have to guarantee anything. He then told us to walk down to Enterprise (with all our luggage in hand) to see if they had anything. The associates at Enterprise were outstanding and tried to assist the best they could. We ended up walking back to Budget and getting a malibu for the same price as the suv. Will NEVER rent from Budget again.

Pros: The person I dealt with when picking up the car took so much time to give me a personal experience and never made me feel rushed. So polite and accommodating.
Cons: The car had not been cleaned. I don’t mind the exterior as much as the interior, but I like to know the previous driver’s dander and hair gets taken out of the car before it’s my turn to drive.
Pros: The check out process was quick. There was no one in line when I arrived. The vehicle that I originally requested was not available. I already expected this, so I was not surprised to get a mini-van instead of a Pathfinder. The price was the same and the vehicle met our needs just fine. Overall a very good experience considering the price and customer service.

Cons: First of all, I stand in line to pick up my rental only to be told that they need to see proof of insurance to pick up my vehicle. They told me that only residents of the state of Florida need proof of insurance. I'm currently stationed in Germany and didn't have proof of insurance on me and this is the first time I have ever needed proof of insurance and I have rented with many companies before. I ended up having to call another department within my insurance company to get proof of insurance because it was 10 pm and they were closed. After I got proof of insurance I was told I still needed to pay for the insurance through the rental company because my insurance wasn't enough and that they wouldn't release the rental to me unless I paid for their insurance. I had to pay $24.99 extra a day for 10 days ($249.90) in order to get my rental car. Then a few days after getting my rental car I was pulled over because the paper license plate they had on the car had flown off. I had to take the rental car all the way back to advantage in Tampa in order to get this issue fixed which took me away from my family.

Cons: Takes a while for the shuttle, the staff is not very cooperative and had a clear change in their attitude dealing customers of color. Got told that I had to buy their insurance of almost $180/day and can't use my own. Take it or leave it. Never going there again!

Pros: The price.
Cons: You get what you pay for with Advantage rental car. The shuttle from the airport was slow and the customer service reps were robotic. They make you feel guilty if you don't get their insurance and try every sales pitch to get you to add it to your rental, as well as include the toll fees in your rental. They tried to get me into a larger car, "only $7/day extra" which would have cost an additional $70 at least. The car I got was dirty, dented, scratched and had almost 30,000 miles on it. It took me longer to complete the the damage paperwork than it did to get to my final destination. I won't rent from them again. In the future, I'll go with the larger, well known car rental companies. Like I said, you get what you pay for.

Do not use!
Cons: The car was dirty, they over charged me multiple times, trying to get in touch with customer service to change the rental was next to impossible... I never write negative reviews, but this experience was such a nightmare, I had to warn others.

Pros: Thumps down
Cons: I drove all the way to the airport, just to be informed after about an hour and a half of waiting just to get the vehicle. Never again in life will I ever even step foot there again.
Pros: The price was the lowest. The car was clean inside. The people were very friendly.
Cons: It was awkward getting from the airport to the car rental but they were helpful in the process.

Pros: The car was very clean and the staff was friendly at pickup.
Cons: At dropoff the location 'changed' with some guy there to direct you to the location. The rent-a-car location changed without notifying anyone that it was changing locations, the staff at drop off "Advantage Car" was not friendly, effective or quick. They quickly dismissed everyone's concern for the changing locations and lack of communication. It has been over 10 days and I have yet to receive the $100.00 deposit I was guaranteed by the staff would be there within three business days. I strongly recommend not renting from "Advantage Car" in Tampa Florida.

slow service on pickup
Pros: the car was clean and worked well. drop off back to the airport was fast.
Cons: pickup at the airport was slow and I waited in line for a car for over 45 minutes. that is unacceptable.

Pros: I liked the price, location was decent, and they did have Volkswagens available.
Cons: Most of their cars were KIAs which I refuse to drive. The person behind the counter was all about sales and not too friendly. The car was OK, but scratched up like crazy, and they did a horrible job of washing the car and cleaning the inside.

Okay but they try too hard to up sell you add-ons.
Pros: Easy process from acquiring the keys to dropping off the car.
Cons: Pre-charging customers for fuel. I never had to pay for fuel ahead of time when I denied pre-fueling. I always opt-in to refuel the gas myself. Although I got reimbursed it was additional time I had to take out of my time to get a refund.

WORST PICKUP EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE
Cons: Upon landing at Tampa int airport at 515am, I went directly across to the rental building. With 4 people in front of me, I knew I'd be waiting a few minutes. 2 AND A HALF HOURS LATER I was finally helped by the sole employee working. Not only was this woman working with no help, she was the slowest moving human I've ever seen. My check in experience was almost 30 minutes long. Most of this time was watching her try to find the keys to my car in a box of probably 50 car keys. When she couldn't find it, she gave me a car I specifically told her I didn't want. Then continued on with the process. At 755am I finally got up to the car only to discover my internal fear was correct, our child's stroller didn't fit in the trunk, which was why I didn't want a corolla. There was no apology for any inconvenience of my time AT ALL. This woman needs to find anot her job immediately where it is appropriate to work so slowly. I WILL NEVER rent with avis/budget again.

Pros: How has it was to drop the car off.
Cons: I am not usually a complainer, but the car was so saturated with a cigarette scent we had to leave the car windows open at all times. also, the car had several cigarette burns. Honestly, it was overall an unpleasant experience.

Pros: Good value , quick service, good car. A little weird at drop off as no one checked the car out so it kind of felt open ended. I documented with photo to prove no damage etc. no issues otherwise.

Cons: Pick up... BAD experience!
I called to tell them I was running late, and the manager told me he could only give me an hour. I told him I needed more time, but he said he could only hold it for ONE hour.
I don't understand WHY - if I have a reservation, and I call to confirm it and explain my delay it can't be held longer?!
He was very rude, and it appeared that he didn't want to hold the car because it was the only one holding him in the office (at 2:00 PM).

They dont really get a car on time
Pros: The price
Cons: They dont got the van on time make me whait 3 hr and 30 minutes to give me the van and they dont offer a discount for the delay not happy to wait all thad time thwy make me get late to the funeral of me familly member.
Pros: Easy pick up, great rate saved 50% on this on we way rental vehicle in comparative vehicle with other company
Cons: The return was easy but for so.e reason my rental agreement was not on the system

Pros: Loved the car I was rented. Newer model. Very clean.
Cons: Phone number to National did not work so unable to stay in touch when I needed to talk to someone in the office. Car not ready when I arrived (person helping me went and cleaned it himself, so that was helpful), printer not working so no paperwork to take with me.
I put in TPA for airport and was given an offsite location. I thought I was renting from airport and went there first. Big disruption to my plans. Ultimately my fault for not paying attention to the address, but also very confusing process that I was clear I wanted airport.

Pros: Fantastic customer service, easy check in process and they had the exact vehicle I needed.
Cons: I felt like I was rushed out of my car and could have left personal belongings behind easily. Also, the gas fee is overly expensive and I was charged $60 for a tank when the current gas prices would have allowed for a $40 fill up.
