When choosing your car hire in Lefkada, you should consider the condition of the roads. An economy or compact vehicle is more suitable because the island has plenty of narrow, winding roads. The cars may be smaller but are ideal for Lefkada traffic, and the locals also drive such vehicles. Since you will be operating on a gravel road, choose a fully insured car, as standard insurance does not cover the windows and car underside; both may be damaged navigating gravel terrain. Always confirm the air conditioning is working before you take your car, to ensure you are comfortable in the island's heat.

When you use a car hire in Lefkada, abide by the average speed limit of 60 km/h in the city. Additionally, you should adhere to the speed limit of 50 km/h while in Lefkada towns and villages. Meanwhile, the speed limit while on the roads out of towns is 90 km/h. However, the road signs always override the default speed limits. Look out for posted signage, as the speed limits might differ depending on where you are in Lefkada.

The island has large car parks where you can park your car hire in Lefkada for free. The larger car parks that hold hundreds of vehicles are on the south and north of Lefkada town. There is one car park is next to the port, while the other one is at the end of the seaside promenade, next to the Archeological Museum of Lefkada. Parking on the streets is much harder to find a spot if you do not want to park in the car parks. The west coach beaches (except Porto Katsiki) offer free parking. Alternatively, you can park at Ndiri Parking Bakopanos or the Dimotiko parking. Parking during public holidays or Sundays is more challenging, as many people are utilising it.
