Having a car allows you to easily reach various points of interest in Saumur, including the Château de Saumur, Musée des Blindés (Tank Museum), and the beautiful Loire Valley vineyards.
  • The closest airport to Saumur is Tours Val de Loire Airport (TUF), located approximately 66 kilometers (41 miles) northeast of Saumur. You will find the car hire agencies located in the car park opposite the main terminal.
  • Saumur is a popular tourist destination, with many pedestrians and cyclists on the roads. When driving your car hire in Saumur, it's important to be vigilant and watch out for pedestrians crossing the streets and cyclists sharing the road. Give them sufficient space and always be prepared for unexpected movements. It's also important to familiarise yourself with local driving customs, such as signalling, yielding, and merging, to adapt to the driving style of the area and ensure smoother and safer traffic flow.
  • When driving your car hire in Saumur, be aware that, like many old European cities, it has narrow streets and tight corners, which can be challenging to navigate, especially for larger vehicles. It requires extra caution and precision while driving to avoid collisions or scraping against buildings or parked cars. Moreover, road conditions in Saumur can vary. Some rural roads may be narrow, winding, or in need of maintenance. During inclement weather, such as heavy rain or snow, road conditions may become more challenging. Adjust your driving speed and style accordingly, and exercise caution.
