KAYAK’s top tips for hiring a car in Dax

  • Using car hire in Dax gives you the flexibility to visit many places. Though several buses offer public transport in the city, the fixed schedules and local stops could inconvenience your plans for exploration. When driving a hire car, you can visit Bisc’Aventure, approximately 104 km (65 miles) north of the city, Catedral de San Sebastian, around 87 km (54 miles) southwest of the city, and La Playa de Zurriola, about 90 km (56 miles).
  • When visiting Dax, you'll likely land at Bordeaux-Merignac Airport (BOD). Several car hires are located between Terminal A and B on the Arrivals level. You can choose a vehicle from several Dax car hire companies, including Avis, Europcar, National, and Budget. You can use the airport's free shuttle from the terminal to car hire offices. Most car hire agencies have a wide range of car brands for travellers to choose from.
  • When using car hire in Dax, you must have a minimum of 21 years. However, some car hire agencies, such as Alamo, require a minimum age of 18. In addition, you must have a driving licence active for at least one year. Also, drink-driving is prohibited in the city for the safety of other drivers and pedestrians. The maximum blood alcohol concentration (BAC) when driving is 0.05, but 0.03 for drivers under 20 years.
  • Driving a hire car in Dax during the morning and evening rush hours, mainly between 06:00 to 09:00 and 16:00 and 19:00 on weekdays. Avoid 8th Avenue Georges Clemenceau because it can be congested as commuters go to and from work. One way to avoid traffic is to research the route before driving, or using alternative routes for a convenient trip. You can also listen to local traffic news to know what to expect on the road.
  • Small hire cars in Dax are around 32% cheaper than other car types, on average

KAYAK
This was the worst car experience I ever had. My reservation was for 12pm but the car rental agency is. closed from 12pm - 2pm. When we showed up at 2pm they said because it had been two hours the reservation was cancelled and the car was already resold. BUT ITS NOT POSSIBLE as they were closed so how did they sell the car. Anyway they almost ruined our vacation but luckily there was a RENT - A - CAR across the street with a super friendly staff and ended up being cheaper. NEVER USE ALAMO IN DAX
