Location.
Steeped in elegance and old-world charm, San Francisco's Nob Hill Hotel (Calif.) rose to glory in 1907 and was restored to its original beauty in 1998. One of Hyde Street's favorite decorations, this neighborhood boutique is positioned in the affluent Nob Hill district reminding passers-by of why San Francisco is one of the most fashionable cities in the world. Only two streets away, the famous San Francisco Cable Car lines will transport guests to tourist-attractive areas including the North Beach, Fisherman's Wharf and the Embarcadero Center. Other points of interest include Chinatown, the Theatre district and Union Square, where guests can navigate high-end shopping, intimate cafes and seamless entertainment. Interestingly, the Nob Hill Hotel has hosted countless entertainers and celebrities as the property is surrounded by music halls and popular performance venues.
Hotel Features.
Commanding the attention of its viewers, the hotel interior boasts original marble flooring, high ceilings with decorative moldings, l892 Period Stained Glass panels, Alabaster Chandeliers and an extensive collection of Victorian paintings. Offering an evening wine/sherry tasting, the professional hotel staff is available around the clock, and will gladly arrange limousine service, secretarial services, massage treatments and room service. While their esteemed business clientele can peruse newspapers, daily, in the lobby, leisure travelers can enjoy complimentary continental breakfasts, at their own pace.
Guestrooms.
Walking into a guestroom at the Nob Hill Hotel is like taking a crash-course in European history and design. Featuring reproduction antique furnishings and Victorian décor, these charming accommodations were designed to remind their occupants of a time when comfort was determined by wealth and style. Many of these smoke-free guestrooms offer mini fridges, safe-deposit boxes and coffeemakers.
Cons: Let me be the one to complain about a free breakfast.
Small and old
Pros: Decent location and clean
Cons: Not for the business traveler. The room barely fit the double bed and the bathroom was so small the sink didn't fit. The walls are thin and it's very loud through the night.
Great Value and Helpful Staff
Pros: Unique rooms. Flexible and helpful staff. Outstanding value. Good location.
Room was dirty and dilapidated
Cons: There were a few things that made our stay with you hotel less than enjoyable last week. Below are some examples of what made us surprised, especially considering how much we paid for the room:
-there were dirty socks on the floor of the room upon arrival
-the closet floor was filthy
-the bathroom had mold on the ceiling and the walls
-the bathroom floor had not been cleaned from the previous residents
-there were still plastic bags on the box springs that were peeking out from the bed
-the carpet was filthy, full of stains and ripped
-the bathroom fan made horribly loud noises
-the walls were full of bad patch jobs and mis-matched paint
-we were surprised at the overall condition of the room for how much we paid
Another note on the valet service:
- when we got our car back, there were weird marks allover all of the windows. we picked valet service hoping that the car would be kept in a secure, clean location. the wipe marks all over the windows made us suspicious that the car was not kept in such a location.
Great Value Considering Area
Pros: I loved my room and the cleanliness. When I checked in a nice clean room with two beds that I booked were ready for me. The hotel's location was good for me for all of the things I wanted to see from Lombard Street, to Lands end, Pier 39, and other places I wanted to see were within a 5-15 minute drive from the hotel.
There was a decent, filling breakfast that I had before I left in the morning. I did not pay for that as part of my stay abut it was nice that I was able to enjoy it.
The check in and check out process was quick and easy.
A little tip is that there is a parking garage at the intersection of bush and polk (only one block down) that offers cheaper parking than this hotel's valet. If you get your car parked in there a little past 9pm then get your car out before 8am so that your bill is only $6.
Overall it was a great stay but If I ever go to SF again with my car I will definitely try to make sure the hotel has its only parking b/c it can be expensive to pay to park near your hotel on top of parking to see sights around the city.
Cons: The biggest complaint I have is that the hotel claims to have parking but its actually valet parking that is anywhere from $26-$40 a night depending on the size of your car.
I stayed there from Dec 30-31 and the room was freezing. I had a thin blanket which was not really sufficient.
There wasn't much a view but it was not that big of a deal to me as I was there to see sights not sit and look out of my window.
The staff was so so. I went to the front desk to ask about parking and that is when I was told that they had valet and no actual parking lot for guests to come and go as they please. Then I asked them about other parking garages around and they were not too helpful. In helping me finding alternatives.
Charming, affordable hotel
Pros: lovely hotel, beautifully decorated: restored Victorian decorations, private bathroom, breakfast and wifi included, convenient location. We easily walked home after seeing the fireworks at Embarcadero.
Cons: right after checking in, we walked to tourist info and unwittingly walked right through Tenderloin, which is only one block south. Luckily it was during the day, so it was ok, but we passed at least 5 people who looked strung out. The other times we walked to the hotel, we avoided Tenderloin and it was fine.
Pros: Simple hotel, but very well kept, in a quintessential SF neighborhood, and incredible value for money
Cons: Room was a bit small and decor a bit quaint, but it is the style of the place
super cute boutique hotel
Pros: I loved how it was a boutique hotel and honestly what I was looking for in SF. Only stayed 2 nights but would have stayed longer. Would definitely look into staying in the hotel again if we needed to. We had an end unit so we had windows on both sides of the room. Our comforter and sheets were white and bed frame a cute black vintage one. I feel this made the whole room open up with nice vintage touches with the desk and extra chair in the room. We had a little closet which held my mini suitcase and a built in bookshelf. I can't speak for the rest of the rooms but I do feel like we lucked out in ours. Great water pressure which I appreciated!! Weird thing to remember but it was awesome!
Cons: I woke up abruptly in the morning because someone was standing outside the door talking. I couldn't hear through the walls but the next morning was a jolt I wasn't ready for. Could have just been a loud talker that no matter what door was there he could have been heard. One of our face towels had a stain, but didn't bother me much, I just put it aside not to use. Other than that, no problems.
Such a lovely little place...
Pros: Decor
Beds
Bathrooms
Staff
Location
Price
Cons: A little hot, but there was a fan in the room
A bit small, but I've had worse
Enjoyed my experience
Pros: Staff were nice, Italian restaurant is tasty, free wine and cheese after 5 I believe.
Parking is minimal so expect $40 for valet and I had a small car per night.
Overall enjoyed my stay.
Do not take room 300
Pros: Staff was friendly
Cons: Very dated
Super small room. Was not what was advertised.
Cute but aging. Staff could be much friendlier!
Pros: Location great and a nice happy hour in the afternoon. Interesting guests.
Cons: Room was small. Bathroom had no storage at sink. Needs a good renovation!
