What type of car is recommended for driving in Figari?

Whether you are driving around the coast or cruising through cities, smaller vehicles like sedans and compacts are certainly your best choice of hire vehicle for Figari. This is partly because the island streets of Corsica simply weren’t designed for the larger vehicles that so commonly populate the streets of the United States. Smaller vehicles are especially recommended when it comes to parking considerations, as on-street parking on the island is far more suited to a compact car than an SUV.

What’s the speed limit in Figari?

In general, speed limits are 60 km/h (37 mph) in town and in residential areas and 90 km/h (56 mph) on rural roads, while larger highways on Corsica and outside of Figari have speed limits that go up to 110 km/h (68 mph).

Where are the best places to park in Figari?

Street parking is by far the most common form of parking available in Figari. There are some garages and a number of parking lots around, but on-street parking is the predominant form of parking in the city. This is especially the case in the more residential and rural areas. If you come across any paid parking, it generally costs around €1.00 ($1.14) per hour.

Get the smallest car that can accommodate you. Roads are narrow.

AndiSept 2025

A car on Corsica Island is a must. Electric cars are more challenging, but with a bit of internet connection, you will be able to find charging spots without any issues. Would recommend the island to nature lovers and beach enthusiasts. Andi

CécileSept 2024

Electric cars are great. It’s easier to find a charge than it seems. Go for it!

AndySept 2023

OK but lesser roads are quite narrow and Corsicans typically straddle the centre lines, only moving to the side to allow other vehicles to pass. There's also a lot of rocks on the road and it is easy to hit them and ruin a tyre/ wheel

Verified travelerJul 2023

Go directly to the rental office to be the first one (ask to someone else to collect your luggage). Be prepared to get an electric car. By chance I get an Hybrid one but without charge cable.

Verified travelerJul 2023

driving in figari was easy.

Verified travelerJun 2023

All electric car in Hertz so plan ahead to take a car with enough autonomy for your travel. There is a ok number of charging station but I could imagine how this become a nightmare during the high season

It is highly recommended that travelers visiting Figari rent a vehicle during their time in the town. Figari, and Corsica by extension, generally lack any usable public transportation for travelers to use during their time there. If you want to explore Figari, one of the neighboring cities such as Bonifacio, or any of the surrounding countryside, you are best off renting your own vehicle.
Looking forward to your Mediterranean adventure in Figari? Chances are you plan to rent a vehicle directly after your flight lands. For travelers who are flying into the Figari–Sud Corse Airport, the hire car desks can be found in the Arrivals Hall of the main terminal as well as in the P2 Parking Lot.
Figari, like most of Corsica, is checkered with scenic roads that, in some cases, go back centuries. These ancient roads, while beautiful and offering a unique glimpse into the past, are also characterized by the occasional disrepair. Drivers should take note that many of these smaller paths might be quite small and it is best to drive slowly on them for the sake of safety.
Due to Figari’s older streets, there is some very minor rush hour traffic during the peak driving hours of the day. The small streets typically become congested with daily traffic at around 8:00 a.m. and then clear out by around 9:00 a.m. In the afternoon, on the other hand, rush hour traffic lasts from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is primarily restricted to the D859 roadway.

Compact SUV

Car hard to find on dirt lot. Car unwashed and covered with thick dust. Long line to get car. I rented a manual and got an EV- hybrid which I had no way to charge.

2.0 Poor

Bogomil, Sept 2025

Economy

Terrible The car was dirty. The Hertz representative was unfamiliar with the system he was working with. He tried to explain to me that I had to return the car early, even though I had a confirmation of my reservation with the dates written on it. In the end, they charged me a fee for changing the reservation and, on top of that, another €150 for returning the car late. Despite my email to Hertz, I still haven't received a reply or a refund. This will not be tolerated anymore because I am forgetting about this company. They employ idiots.
