San Francisco is known for its very steep hills and sometimes small roads, and the inner city can get very congested, so when choosing what brand luxury car you hire, make sure it comes with an automatic transmission. You don’t want to be changing gears if you’re stuck in traffic on a hill.
You are literally spoiled for choice when it comes to a luxury car hire in San Francisco but if you’re looking for convenience, the best bet is to hire your car from San Francisco Airport. Here you can choose from top car rental companies all situated right at the airport. When you pick up your luxury car hire in San Francisco make a road map of places you should visit but also be aware there are areas you should try to avoid. Keep in mind that the neighbourhood scenery can also change dramatically after nightfall.
Driving in a new city always comes with a bit of getting used to, so brush up on some tips before you get your San Francisco luxury car hire. Peak times are a nightmare so try avoid driving in these times. If you want to drive over the Golden Gate try wake up as early as you can to avoid the tourists. If you find a parking on steep hill you are going to have to curb your wheels in case of your car rolling down the hill. Pedestrians have the right of way in San Francisco even if your crossing is not marked. There are a lot of one-way streets in this city, so watch the road signs. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Never renting from this company again! Felt like I was dealing with a slimy salesman when I picked up the car at SFO. At the end of our rental period, the car (a BMW 4 Series Convertible) broke down due to mechanical issues and wouldn’t start. It took 15 minutes for the “emergency roadside assistance” phone number to be answered. The customer service agents who eventually answered showed no concern or care for our situation! They also implied that I may be responsible for the cost of towing the car. There is no way to reach the SFO rental desk directly; 1-800 numbers only that just ring and ring, even in roadside emergencies. There is a reason other car rental agencies had lines of customers at their desks and Sixt had none! I highly recommend you do NOT rent from this company!

Good experience, nice staff! Super modern car that had no problems. I wish however there were more possibility to pick-up and drop-off the car outside usual working hours. On the weekend, they were only open until 3pm for drop-off. But all in all good experience! Thank you Asu for helping us!

Budget doesn't have human beings answer the 800 cust. service no. after 7:30PM! that;s right a national car rental comp, so if you have problems with your car NO ONE TO SPEAK TO. want AI instead? a tow though that is not what you are calling about - those are your choices after 7:30. And, no notice when you rent a Tesla that the charging cord is NOT in the car, but can be found only at the Tesla charge station. How would a renter know that? Not in the Tesla driver's manual, not on the rental receipt, no number to call where someone from Budget can tell you that (and when I did the next day talk at 800 no,. that person didn't have a clue herself. ps - the office staff themselves where helpful and fair.

Pick up and drop off is simple, waiting time to get the car is too long.

There were a lot of add on charges and fees, also somewhat aggressive effort to make me rent a bigger car than originally planned

I was a disappointed with the price. When I got all the information I have one price and when I returned the car, it is a completely different price. I’ve tried discussed with the agent how much will be the total. I didn’t have time to discuss that because I have to make it to my flight.

Economy

What a scam. The rental cost I locked online more than doubled after they added their fees and CA taxes - the counter agent also lied and said liability was required in CA but it’s not if you have your own. She also said it was cheaper to have them refuel. Not even close. I am waiting for a resolution but wouldn’t rent from them again.

Passenger van

I was told I'd have a large van and was given a mini-van. The cost I agreed to was in the $900 range. I called ahead to be sure they had the van and also that they confirmed the price. When I arrived to pick it up, after waiting nearly 2 hours in line, I was charged upwards of $1600. I would never have agreed to this and found another option, however, my family was all arriving that day for a very important event and all of it depended upon having a van - and the van we received was not large enough and did not match the van that I reserved online.

Horrible customer service. Was told that I needed to wait to be called up in the queue when there was no one in line, which was shared between Thrifty kiosk. They should create two lines to decrease confusion. Representative was incredibly rude and short. They didn’t have the car I reserved and offered me a supposedly equivalent car which was fine but didn’t tell me that I would have to manually charge this car in order to benefit from the electric/hybrid option of the car. Ended up spending a lot on gas when I intentionally booked a hybrid to save money on gas.

Not a huge issue, but husband had to pay at pickup, unexpectedly, because Alamo couldn’t find the payment info I put in when booking the rental car. The reservation was in their system, just not the credit card associated with it. (not sure if it’s an issue with Expedia or Alamo) As a result, we didn’t get the 12% cash back that we factored into the price.

Staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating. Car was clean, comfortable and exactly as advertised. Great experience. The only problem was with Enterprise itself. I was going to be arriving right at my dropoff time, which was also when the office was supposed to close, and wanted to make sure they knew I was arriving. When I tried calling, I was routed to a general Enterprise phone system and had no way of routing my call to the actual branch where I was dropping off. The automated message told me the office was closed, even though it was before the time when the branch actually closed. Caused unnecessary stress, but it worked out in the end.
