Pros: The car was clean and tidy
Cons: On collection staff just didn't seem bothered, talked amoungst themselves, left me standing there without saying what was going on and did not have the vehicle I requested and paid for. no GPS available either, charged more for insurance and took more than they said would cost when I returned the car. I used them as was supposed to be the cheapest, don't fall for it, use a different company.

Hertz is garbage
Pros: nothing
Cons: everything. They didn't have a car for me even though I prepaid the fare and reserved a vehicle. Told me to come back the next day and MAYBE they would have one. I asked if I could pick up one from another location and was told it wasn't possible. After a little back and forth I made the receptionist called Hertz on my behalf to get a vehicle for me. Then they proceeded to tell me I was going to be charge a different rate which was three times the original booking. Spent another 2 hours on the phone with Hertz to speak to a supervisor and finally got a vehicle in a different location but still ended up paying more than my original agreement. Gold member at Hertz and I will never rent from this garbage company ever again. I would suggest you avoid the headache as well. I know you think the chances of this happening to you are slim, but believe me I've heard multiple stories about this company after I complained about my whole ordeal.

Wrong pickup location
Pros: As far as the actually rental car, everything was great. Hertz was great. Kayak not so much.
Cons: During my search for a rental car, I was searching for a car rental at the airport. When I go there, they explained it was for the downtown location which does not have as high of taxes which is why it was so much more less expensive. I wound up paying a lot more for my rental car because of that. Even more disappointing, I found out this happens all of the time to others. It’s not hard to imagine that you are doing this on purpose to bait and switch customers with a low price and then give them the oops, you are in the wrong place. I can say that I will never use Kayak again and I will be sure to tell all I know what a misleading experience I had.

Cons: Price was in-line with competition, but felt pricing too high in New Orleans market. It seems like car should have been $10 a day less.

Good and bad
Pros: Comfortable ride
Cons: I was told that I had a full tank. But realized shortly after I left it was only 3/4 full. I told the lady at the drop off the next day but nothing was offered. Not even a sorry. Also the process of getting the car was time consuming! A lot of waiting.

Every person was so nice, the car was not
Pros: I liked interacting with the people who worked at the Enterprise location.
Cons: The bumper falling off, the alignment on the car pulled to the right horribly, the check engine light came on causing the car to almost stall on the highway, and the tire pressure light came on and required me to add air to ALL four tires. The car rode and drove horribly. Every time I showed up somewhere, I had to explain that it was not me that caused the damage to the bumper. It became annoying and embarrassing.

Cons: Let's see. I couldn't rent a car because I had a debit car. Something that apparently only happens in Louisiana. It should have been specified earlier so I could plan my trip. Ended up having to buy a very expensive train ticket instead in emergency to be able to get to Memphis on time to catch my flight.

Search results unclear - car reserve. not at airpo
Cons: What ever you do, you need to always make it visually easier to determine if the car is not at an airport. I am guessing a huge percentage of cars rented through your site are at airports. There should be a better differentiation in search results as well as a quick warning upon check out. Nothing more frustrating than getting to the counter having them tell you it will cost 3x because reservation is somewhere else. I went with a different company.

Lousy reservation system and customer service by K
Cons: After wasting over an hour at the airport I found out Kayak and it partners made my reservation in the city instead of airport! Customer service was rude and not helpful over the phone. I had to pay double the rate I had reserved to rent directly from Budget. I rated everything as poor not because of Budget, but your on-line system.

Top tips for hiring a car in New Orleans

  • New Orleans is a cultural melting pot of diverse heritage, world-renowned music, exceptional nightlife, and culinary options. Renting a car will help you maximize your time in New Orleans; whether you aim to explore the varied wetlands that the surrounding lakes and Mississippi River have to offer, or would prefer to discover secrets spread across the downtown metropolis, renting a car is the best option. Aside from checking out the distinctive Creole-styled architecture in the French Quarter, ensure you venture across Lake Pontchartrain and witness the isolated beauty of Fontainebleau State Park and Mandeville.
  • The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is located approximately 4.5 miles from the downtown area and you can expect to complete the drive in about 25 minutes. Major hire companies such as Enterprise, Budget, Hertz, and Dollar have a range of hire options to suit you; you can use KAYAK to find the best deal. Once you have collected your luggage, proceed towards the exit and take a right turn under the sheltered walkway towards the Car hire Facility to pick up your keys.
  • Streetcars, commonly referred to as trams in other parts of the world, are present in the center of town and you must be careful while driving to provide the right of way and ensure you do not stop on the tracks. While drinking alcohol on the street is uniquely legal in New Orleans, having an open alcoholic container in your car while driving is not. Right-hand turns on a red light are legal in New Orleans unless otherwise indicated.
  • Like most major cities, New Orleans experiences rush hour delays at peak commuting periods of the work week. It is advisable to plan around the rush hour between 7:30 am and 9:30 am, as well as 4 pm and 7 pm. People come to New Orleans from all across the world to celebrate events such as Mardi Gras and the Jazz & Heritage Festival. During these festivities, traffic is particularly affected close to the French Quarter so, if you are in the city during this period, allow some extra time to reach your destination.
