Excellent 10.0
Pros: Food, staff, location, and cleanliness
Cons: The owners were very friendly. The dining room has a massive picture window with a fabulous view of the town, the sea, and Islands beyond. Breakfast was amazing and cooked to perfection. Will definately be staying again
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Awesome food !!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Breakfast was very good
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We had an excellent 2-night stay at Hildeval B&B in Orkney! The hosts were very knowledgeable and helpful. The room and bathroom were a generous size, comfortable and clean. Location in a quiet area not far from town centre. Due to Covid restrictions it was not easy to find places to have dinner, so Amanda offered the option to have a take-away in the breakfast room upstairs where she would set up a dinner table for us. Also, when we had to leave early for the morning ferry back to the mainland and Amanda prepared a lovely take-away-breakfast bag for us, we could not have asked for more.
Cons: N/A
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Don't normally take the time to review work trips, but really enjoyed my stay here. I stayed in the studio which gives added flexibility of a fridge/microwave. Amanda was a great host and was a font of knowledge with tips for things to see while on the island. Amazing views to enjoy over a tasty breakfast. Ideal cosy base for exploring Kirkwall and Orkney.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Friendly atmosphere. Great amenities. Staff could not do enough for you. Everything very fresh and beautifully decorated.
Cons: Nothing at all.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: beautiful location, Amanda was exceptionally kind and helpful. Very Clean and food was exceptional.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Very clean and a comfy bed. Breakfast was fantastic. Lovely host.
Cons: Walls are pretty thin, could hear another guest snoring.

Pros: Breakfast is really good
Cons: Friendly
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Excellent breakfast.Excellent service. Good clean room. Host put himself out to deliver breakfast as we had an early ferry to catch.
Cons: Nothing.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Very welcoming and helpful hosts. Couldn't have provided a better service, especially given the circumstances. Nice room with very comfy beds. Very tasty breakfast with various options. Only a short footwalk from the town centre.
Cons: Shower didn't drain so well, so if you were taking a long shower, it was leaking a bit. Only a minor issue, though.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very clean, modern room and bathroom. Smelt amazing! Love the Orkney soaps. Breakfast was really well cooked, staff were lovely.
Cons: Isn't much to dislike really.

Excellent 8.0
Pros: Very pleasant owners who went out of their way to keep us safe in these Covid times. Excellent choices for bread and top quality food was provided.
Cons: We liked everything. We did think a much larger shower cubicle could have been installed in our room. We understand why we are asked to order breakfast the night before but we really prefer to choose in the morning.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: A very impressive and imposing building, originally built for the owner of the Distillery, renovated sympathetically to the traditional style by the current owners . Very friendly owners/hosts, great breakfast, room was very big and comfortable. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone.
Cons: No issues at all with this place.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The authentic feel that the decor had, it made it feel stately but cosy at the same time.
Cons: Nothing, it was fab
Excellent 9.0
Pros: This is not your normal B&B and it is a million miles removed from a standard hotel. It has the feel of a stately home, being the big hoose for the Highland Park distillery estate. With every turn there was an effortlessly appropriate nick-back or curiosity. The staff were very considerate and welcoming and the breakfasts were amazing. All enhanced by the occasional waft from the whisky being made down the road and the odd dram.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: A new benchmark for how a premium B&B/Guesthouse should be run, best of everything here, nothing is too much trouble for the proprietors, they really go the extra mile for their guests.
Cons: Nothing to fault whatsoever
Excellent 8.0
Pros: The couple who own the property were very welcoming. The breakfast was terrific and our accommodation was of a very generous size.
Cons: It suited us perfectly!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The bed was noticeably very comfortable and the standard of the breakfast was exceptional.
Cons: There was nothing I didn’t like
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Lovely old Manor house with the decor in keeping with the house. So no TV but the WiFi is good and the breakfast is lovely. The owners are also very welcoming and friendly. Perfect for a quiet weekend Cf

Pros: The Dining room looks out over Loch Harray, a beautiful outlook, creating a very relaxing atmosphere to enjoy the delicious Dinners and Breakfasts served by the lovely local staff.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Breakfast was wonderful as was dinner. The room was very comfortable. We will return
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Lovely location, very friendly, helpful staff, great food. If you’re looking for some of the trappings of an upmarket city center hotel then maybe this isn’t for you, but as a comfortable, relaxing base to explore the area, it was exactly what I was looking for.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Can’t fault this hotel, one of the most relaxing breaks we’ve had. Friendly staff, exceptional food, spacious suite and a very comfortable bed. Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay here again
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Handling of Coronavirus was exemplary. Fabulous food.

Pros: Location was very good with beautiful views of the lake. Staff were welcoming efficient and courteous. Food was very good.
Cons: I would have liked a direct line from my room to reception.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: The location How clean and comfortable it was Value for money
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Room warm, clean, tidy, maybe a few more coffee, sugar and milks wouldn’t go a miss as there was only enough for 1 coffee.
Cons: Nothing really
Excellent 9.0
Pros: This was my second stay (and my second time here during the 2020 pandemic) - and it was just as good as last time. Being able to book a room entirely to yourself - or to your own household - is a great reason to use hostels at this time if they offer that service, and this is a good example: clean, safe, everything socially distanced, simple zero-contact checking-in, room with a kettle and a fridge and an ensuite bathroom...everything you'd need. Really great.
Good 7.0
Pros: Staff were very friendly on the phone. I had to make a couple of changes to my booking due to ferry timetable changes and the staff were very accommodating of this. I arrived late at night on the ferry, check-in was very good as a key was left for me in an envelope at the door and property was easy to find from the ferry terminal- just a short drive away which was ideal for a tired traveller!
Cons: Only stayed one night, arrived very late at night and left early in the morning so this was an ideal overnight stay but I'm unsure I would spend longer than a night there as facilities were basic but met all my needs for a night.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: I was impressed with the cleanliness. The hostel is well located. Excellent value for money.
Cons: We didn't get the full experience, due to Covid restrictions.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Orcades Hostel is located right by the Pickaquoy Centre in Kirkwall. It's a few minutes' walk to the large supermarkets and to the main leisure walking path in town. About a ~15 min walk to get to the main bus station and town centre. The hostel has a lovely garden area which we used for cooking on our camping stove. The owners were very friendly and helpful, and have done a great job of arranging the hostel in a Covid-safe manner. We had our own room which was a great value for money compared to the hotels in Kirkwall.
Cons: Nothing to complain about; shower was small but otherwise fine.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Excellent host. Very clean and comfortable and excellent shower. Had a safe place to lock my bike up.
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 10.0
Pros: I almost don’t want to say how good this place is because I want to make sure there’s space for me to stay again 😉. For a hostel, it is exceptional. Very comfy stay and so clean. Facilities in room were great including a touch light on each bed with usb sockets. Tea and coffee in the room and a hairdryer. Lovely 😊
Cons: Nothing I noticed!

Excellent 9.0
Pros: My stay was lovely. Room upgraded due to low occupancy . Staff very helpful. Excellent location for walking around town & great access to ferries. Will definitely stay there again
Cons: My only complaint is that there is an outside light on the side of the building, right outside my room, that remains on all night. The blinds do not completely block the light so the room remains quite light during the night.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Great staff and good location, clean room and continental breakfast was included.
Cons: Bathroom needs updating, the shower wasn't great and the bathroom door barely closed, poor tv signal
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Excellent location and wonderful staff looking after us in the covid times.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Covid precautions were in place, breakfast had a good variety. Good location
Cons: Bathroom didn’t air very well so towels didn’t dry and the room was a little musty.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Everything! we had everything we needed for a great time away.
Cons: We liked it all
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very nice and helpful staff. Cheerful and smiling girls. Room are clean. The hotel near the bus station and sea. 5 minuts to Bishop’s and Earl's Palaces and 2 museums. Check also Cute street with shops. I recommend🧡
Good 6.0
Pros: Friendly Staff, Comfortable Beds
Cons: Very poor Continental Breakfast . No Yogurt, No Cornflakes, very limited supply of anything. Requested Cornflakes for following day, had to wait for member of staff to go to shop. No pancakes. Just Toast
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Despite the current pandemic The Shore did not make excuses but rather provided an alternative. A clean safe area for dinners to bring in food and a 24-hour buffet bar area for teas, coffees and snacks.

Excellent 9.0
Pros: Location and easy booking in and out.
Cons: Could have done with a light outside for early ferry starts each morning. Occasionally next door made some noise disturbing the peace.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Wonderful welcome from the lovely Laura, even when we arrived in the late evening! The property is also well equipped, copious hot water for great showers, and (for us, not wanting to be in a town) in a perfect location for exploring the islands - including out to Hoy and Rousay.
Cons: Linen and all soft furnishings could do with an upgrade, but we understand that this is a relatively new self-catering operation, so hopefully the owners will reinvest in the next year or so.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Aviedale Suite is in a quiet location ideal for getting round the island to visit the attractions. The accommodation is ideal for a few days stay but a little limited for longer stays.
Cons: A view of the coast would have been a bonus.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Self-contained little cottage in a very pretty and quite remote area of Orkney. Everything was very efficient, check-in very smooth, everything worked well. We loved our week on Orkney, which has fascinating history and amazing scenery.
Cons: Everything was fine - exactly as advertised
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Very clean, very comfortable bedroom.
Cons: A small welcome pack( e.g.milk ) would have been good as there were no shops close by.
Good 7.9
Pros: Extras inside, like washer and dryer
Cons: Needed a comfortable chair or two

Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing

Cons: The bed was very hard and pillows thin...... Bathroom could do with an upgrade...... Bigger shower.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Breakfast was tasty, staff were very friendly

Cons: More organised at breakfast time. Also, no coffee or tea and limited choice for cooked part of the breakfast.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Great food, exceptionally helpful, friendly staff and service. Room was massive and the view was very nice.
Cons: Only thing I would have changed was a bigger shower, but it was powerful and very hot. So that's just nit picking because I've been asked to!

Excellent 8.0
Pros: The location was really central. We were 2 minutes from Orkney Town Centre. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The breakfast on the whole was good and we had a great holiday. The hotel is lovely - very comfortable.
Cons: The hotel would have got 5 stars if they'd remembered that I'm a vegan. (I did notify them before we travelled and they said it wasn't a problem) It wasn't until the second day that the plant based milk and spread were sourced.

Pros: Fantastic location in the town, so easy to go to any pub or restaurant
Cons: The street outside was noisy late into the night. Not with lots of people but small groups being very noisy. Ask for a room at he back!

Excellent 9.6
Pros: Staff are nice and very helpful. I love their huge kitchen. There are so many kitchenware for the guests and large space for storage. Of course, the hostel is very clean. They have two washing machines and two dryers. The guests can use them between 1700-0800 because the laundry room is far away from the rooms!
Cons: I stayed 5 nights in this hostel. The location is not bad but you have to walk from the tourist office or Tesco. I suggest you can take off the bus at Tesco and buy some food before going back the hostel. Because of the weather, there was some problem of WiFi signals. Although there are some disadvantage, I still love this place. :-D
Okay 5.4
Pros: The staff were very lovely. Some very lovely guests too. Many of whom were in the same state of shock as I at the place! Sorry! Love YHA but this hostel is desperately in need of TLC and a little bit of personality. Great value but take extra blankets. Parking.
Cons: No heating on the night we stayed No warning that hot water takes forever to warm up Uncomfortable bed - springs poking us! Room smelt like men’s urinal plus detoll to cover it up! Broken toilets - some very malodorous No toilet roll/soap One of those places where you don’t want to touch door handles or walk barefoot!
Good 7.5
Pros: Absolutely good price for its value. Really nice staff! Good location for exploring the city and island. Very quiet and warm. I would come again!
Cons: very old carpets! no breakfast available because it was out of season.
Good 7.9
Pros: I have booked a 14 bed room but when I came it was 2 bed room, witch was great. Bed was very comfortable and clean. Room was also very clean.
Cons: I sent two messages through booking and one by email, no one replied. I had urgent question because check in was until 22 and I came at 23:50. Nobody was there but I have found an envelope with my name on it. It would just be nicer if I had some info before arriving :)
Good 7.1
Pros: Staff was quick to resolve any problems.
Cons: Single room was double booked. Unable to use Bike Shed: locked. Needed to leave Bike outdoors not secured to railings etc
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Location is great - it's a short walk into the center of town and to the bus station.
Good 6.3
Pros: Clean and tidy,
Cons: Was very hard to find and staff were not answering calls... bit were apologetic when I eventually arrived

Good 7.0
Pros: Dinner
Cons: Ceiling cracks had filled but whole ceiling needed painting
Mediocre 3.0
Pros: Person @ breakfast was very good.
Cons: It was being refurbished which I understand needs to happen but should be told before booking not after you have booked and paid your money.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Given the Scottish Government's mini National Lockdown it was great that the hotel phoned ahead and booked us in for dinner. There were some great choices and the food was excellent. The staff were great throughout our stay, the room was cosy with a really good shower in the bathroom. The hotel is right across the road from the harbour and ferry terminal.
Cons: The crazy Scottish Governments mini national lockdown did not take into account the lack of prevalence of Covid-19 in Orkney so to not be able to have wine with our meal was disappointing and out with the control of the hotel it has to be said. Other than that everything within the hotel's control was first class.
Okay 5.0
Pros: The food And staff was excellent The building itself was also very nice Butt there was something wrong with the room Smelled horrible like chemicals
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Staff were friendly and very helpful. Didn’t catch his name but gentleman on reception was exceptional. Hotel is going to be amazing when finished as standards are very high. Food was great and all COVID rules were in place to make us feel very safe. Views from our room were amazing- over the busy harbour.
Cons: On going works could have been an issue but really didn’t affect us
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Great value for money. Currently under renovation, which the hotel gave plenty of notice about and had no impact on our stay. When we visited the restaurant, bar and reception had been completed to a really high standard - if the rest of the renovation follows suit then this'll be at 4/5 star level. Food was great and reasonably priced with large portions.
Good 6.0
Pros: Staff were excellent. Location good.
Cons: Building site outside our room, corridor carpet covered in paint, noise like electric drill above our room all day and night.
Good 7.0
Pros: Great location! Lovely hotel with excellent restaurant
Cons: Bed had seen better days 😀
Good 6.0
Pros: Good breakfast -pleasant staff. Central Location . Some staff more helpful than others.Well organised for current Covid situation.
Cons: Pretty dull decoration -refurbish long overdue. Parking not always available as vans parked for days in spaces.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Easy late evening check-in after our arrival on the late ferry from Shetland. Spacious room with nice view of the harbour. Breakfast was good, Staff friendly behind their masks. The bar was good and was one of a very few still open in these strange covid times. The ground floor has been refurbished and is quite stylish. Work continues elsewhere but it didn't interrupt our stay at all.
Cons: There's a free unlimited car park almost opposite the hotel - less than 5 minute walk away but the instructions from the hotel could have been simpler. Very difficult to see the hotel name when arriving in the dark and heavy rain - please put up a lower or illuminated sign.
