Accessibility at KAYAK.

At KAYAK, our mission is to make travel as simple and accessible as possible—for everyone. That includes making sure our website is usable and inclusive for people of all abilities. We believe in equal access to digital content and services and we’re committed to continually improving our user experience for all.

Our commitment to inclusive access.

We are dedicated to ensuring our website and mobile platforms are accessible to the broadest possible audience. Whether you use assistive technology, prefer keyboard navigation or simply need a more readable interface, we aim to make your travel planning experience seamless.

Our accessibility efforts are guided by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, EN 301 549, a set of internationally-recognised standards developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This accessibility statement applies to the portions of our platform covered by the European Accessibility Act.

Ways we make KAYAK accessible.

We have implemented the necessary features to comply with the standards set out above, including but not limited to:

Visual accessibility

  • High contrast between text and background
  • Support for zoom and responsive font scaling
  • Avoidance of colour as the sole means of conveying information

screen-reader-support

Screen reader support

  • Proper use of semantic HTML elements
  • ARIA roles and attributes to enhance screen reader interpretation
  • Text alternatives for all meaningful images and icons

Keyboard accessibility

  • Full functionality available via keyboard
  • Making sure there are no keyboard traps
  • Logical tab order and skip navigation links

Continuous monitoring and improvements.

We regularly audit our site using automated tools, full WCAG 2.2 QA checks, feedback from real users and then we monitor the progress with dedicated A11Y bug dashboards. We believe that accessibility isn’t a one-time task – it’s an ongoing journey. As technologies evolve and user needs change, so do we. We test using:

1. Popular screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver

2. Keyboard-only navigation

3. Contrast analysers and accessibility validation tools

We also provide accessibility training for our design, content, engineering and testing teams to foster a culture of inclusive design across all development stages and achieve built-in accessibility.
