Chumbe Island is a truly paradise on earth. Staff were lovely, food was excellent, room was simply beautiful and location is awesome. The place is eco-friendly but you can find all the comforts of a hotel, with the advantage of the secluded location where the nature is literally surrounding you. Also, when snorkelling here you can see a lot of different species of fish, corals, etc and in the evening the coconut crab!

Such a beautiful location and so relaxing. The cabins look right onto the ocean. It's so nice to have complete privacy, rather than beach boys trying to sell you stuff all along the beach as on Zanzibar. The snorkeling, crab walk, forest walk and lighthouse visit were all great. Food was amazing!
We would have loved to stay more than 1 night but it was too expensive (although it is not for profit and all the money goes back into conservation).

The overall atmosphere of being extremely privileged to enjoy a remote and well preserved island just for yourself. This is an eco lodge so don’t expect luxury in the bungalows that are still comfortable but open air : enjoy the sea breeze and sunrise wake up call surrounded by the real jungle ( and its nighttime noises...) We had the two bungalows on the private beach and really felt like Robinsons... Meanwhile delicious food was being cooked, baked and barbecued for us everyday by the kindest staff ever.
Quite a budget for a family and two simple wooden bungalows but don’t forget that you support the preservation of the island and its natural beauty and corals : no more than 12 guests are allowed per day and they ´ve been developing a coral preservation plan for more than 30 years now. This is a non profit place.

Amazing amazing amazing stay, if you have the chance to go, do yourself a favour and just go. Chumbe Lodge is a stunning example of how tourism can be sustainable and simultaneously support conservation efforts. Its expensive, yes, but once you're there you realize what you are paying for. Not only are you away from the crowds of Zanzibar (they strictly control number of guests per day- no more then 16 on the island at a given time!), but the conservation of the surrounding marine reserve is absolutely amazing. The snorkelling was stunning, and there has also been a lot of work done on the island to preserve endangered wildlife such as the coconut crabs (which are really cool to see at night). The team was so kind, and the food was AMAZING. I would 100% go back again some day, being on Chumbe was an incredibly special experience!
