Most comfortable nights sleep
I stay in hotels 3 nights a week with work. I hate hotels. I hate hotel beds. But our bed here was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. I snored all night and felt tremendous in the morning. The staff were great too, but the bed was the star.
Overall really good hotel but...
Awesome breakfast, good quantity and quality. Polite staff although a bit cold when dealing with customers. Good bedrooms not too big but enough. Spotless anywhere you looked Great location 5 min walking to Belem's Tower and just 10 min away from Pastisserie of Belem. There is a tram stop right in front of the hotel's front door.
Staff a bit cold on the approach. Could have been a bit more warming and close when dealing with customers. 5€ for swimming hat to use swimming pools seemed a rip off especially saunas were not operating due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Wish we stayed longer, absolutely...
Due to Covid the Hotel was not fully booked and we got a free update for a Suite. The parking is spacious and for free. This is an exceptional 5 Star Hotel with exceptional service. Pool never overcrowded and the Spa and the interior Pool are just absolutely stunning.
The air conditioning in the Suite could have been a little bit more powerful. But that is a minor point and did not bother us as it was always sufficiently cool in the bedroom.
Very good
The location the nice staff and all the amenities
The room was very hot and the air co simply it’s not enough for the room
Nice hotel but more a...
Very clean, spacious bedrooms with very comfortable beds. Building is very nicely renovated and some old features were kept. The swimming pool and spa is a plus.
- outdoor furniture could be nicer, especially for a 5 start hotel. - orange juice is not fresh but from a package - No place to hang towels after shower in the bedroom - spa voucher was not able to be used for the massages in promotion but was not explained/informed before - bar service around swimming pool is not good enough. They should have a bar outside, as now there is often nobody outside to help the guests - honestly, the service was friendly but a bit inexperienced and you would expect for a 5 stars and for this price to have seamless service and attention to details. I would rate a 4 stars instead.
Relax and luxury at a...
The location was superb: just in front of the Tower of Belém, 5 minute walk to Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. We enjoyed the huge room. The bed was comfy and the shower very relaxing. The external swimming pool was great as well as the drinks we ordered in that area. The Tram (line 15e) stops at the hotel entrance so you can reach Praça do Comércio in 10 minutes (it’s a beautiful trip if you take one of the old vehicles). The staff was very helpful and they undoubtedly add a great value to the property.
Nothing I disliked. Everything was great.
The spa is something else 5*
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The service was simply excellent throughout. The hotel is spotlessly clean and tastefully designed with lots of very nice touches, our waitress told us the Vista Allegre plates at dinner were designed especially for the hotel. The building is very grand and comfortable. The food at breakfast and in the restaurant at dinner was excellent and even the room service was of a high standard. Drinks on the terrace from the bar were very well prepared. I had a massage and it was excellent, I’m still very relaxed 24 hrs after it :) The spa is beautiful, as is the outside area. We will definitely return and would recommend to anyone.
The hotel's interior design (respect for the old with modern elements), very clean and sincerely friendly staff. Great breakfast and excellent spa (large pool and sauna/ Turkish steam bath free to use). This makes makes this hotel a cosy place where you feel right at home. The location is outside the busy Lisbon centre but has very good public transport connections (right in front of the hotel). It was heartwarming to see that the hotel integrates a young, deaf and mute cook in the kitchen staff as a full team member, with great support from her colleagues.(This is unique)
Excellent decor Great inside and outdoor sitting areas Breakfast offer, very complete and delicious
Rooms aren’t especially sound proofed, so you can hear the tram outside. Turkish sauna could smell better with eucalyptus essences. The gym could have a workout bench
We got upgraded to a club room that had it's private balcony with his/her wash basins. The bed was extremely comfortable and it made a huge difference as we were anyways looking for a lie-in most days. The indoor pool was awesome and we also availed paid spa deals which made the trip more relaxed. Breakfast was decent with lots of options across both hot / cold menus.
Nothing really. Maybe some of the staff could have been a bit more prompt in delivering items to the room.
Beautifully appointed
Nothing
Cleaness of the rooms. Towels and other things were changed twice a day. Very nice personel.
SPA could be open till 22 or even longer. It is end of the day when you want to relax after whole day of sightseeing.
The dinner restaurant was FANTASTIC.
Chocolates! Good breakfast. Pleasant staff. Great Spa
The chapel room is spacious and has good views. We received complementory bottle of champagne - not sure if it was for my birthday or New Year. Nice gesture.
We were at the hotel in December just before Christmas and the bar was a bit dull, lacking atmosphere. The bar man was friendly. There were big TV screens in every lounge area including the bar - shame about that as I found it rather annoying
It´s a great place with a lot of nice and positive atmosphere. For activities in the Belem area the location is great otherwise a little off! Still a place to recommend.
The bed was comfortable and staff were friendly. About 20mins walk to restaurants and within walking distance to most of the tourist attractions in Belem
Most 5 star hotels that I have stayed at is with bath facilities but our room only had a shower.
Top quality on everything!
Quiet. Soft mattress.
Breakfast was too late. The breakfast place could be livelier. The entrance to the hotel is not impressive.
Their own and pleasant underground parking space. Swimming and sauna was excellent. Room shower condition was extremely good. Breakfast was good. Location in Belem was good. Everything was super good.
Nothing
The location - close to the historical part of Belem but quiet. Superfriendly staff, comfortable rooms, fantastic breakfast.
Nice building with modern elements The hotel is located in a great area Fantastic breakfast with great service and eggs
Construction in front of the hotel. The service was ok but not adequate to a five star hotel. Some staff made a presumptuous impression. Ridiculous rule to wear a swim cap in the pool which was not communicated beforehand. Sauna not heated. Disappointing Spa experience.
The hotel is very nicely located close to "Torre de Belém". The staff in the breakfast room is particular accommodating and remembers wishes from previous days.
Personally I was not happy with my spa experience in the "Palacio do Governador". 1. During my stay the sauna was switched off and nobody was around I could approach directly. 2. Swim caps might be a local reality but being chased out of the pool in an unfriendly manner for not knowing this rule is not what I would have expected. Unfortunately there is currently a massive construction side in front of the hotel. Most likely this is not in the hands of the hotel management. Nonetheless future guest should know about this condition. I did not when I booked the hotel. Lastly, when I arrived short before 4pm my hotel room was not ready yet. This provides room for improvement.
Very good and varied breakfast. Good egg chef.
The potato rosti were a little cool.
Excellent breakfast with specialty coffees. Lots of variety. Location in the Belem area excellent.
Loved the fantastic indoor pool, the lovely staff and not to forget the incredibly comfy beds.
Nothing, all good
The entire hotel is very unique and beautiful, beautiful, spacious rooms and spa. Breakfast was delicious, however coffee could be a little better. Staff was very nice and helpful. Location is great- right in beautiful Belem and close to the centre.
Apart from an average coffee at breakfast, nothing really.
Elegance. Pool area lovely...an oasis in a bustling vibrant city. Full fabulous breakfast.
All good!
I liked the room and the breakfast.
Construction and sand tracked all over our shoes. Location not as good as advertised. Maid service was poor.
Nothing
This is a dishonest hotel. I had to walk out because of their dishonest claims. It it arguably our worst experience in over 50 years of travel and stays in huge number of hotels.
the bed was a bit hard
The noise from the road works wasn't good. But it only affected me in the morning when I was in the room.
Excellent breakfast. Comfortable bed
Can hear commuter train running at all hours
Location was excellent although away from the center of town.
Shower slippery. Lighting system in room complicated. Staff attention uneven,
The pool and sauna.
Too many things!!!! Front desk. Hotel was pretentious but did not deliver. Furniture in general was cheap. Decor was poor. It feels dead because it is too big. Staff not properly trained. No electric tea kettle? Food was average.
Great location in the Belém area of Lisbon. Ver attentive and helpful staff. Good restaurants nearby.
It is all about location! Close to the Belem Tower, and in a really fine historical building.
Unfortunately there are repair works to the tram line outside the hotel entrance, which are dusty, noisy, and prevent full access for a taxi.
Really everything you would expect in a full service hotel. Modern, creative decor; place is especially well suited for business travelers, that's why maybe a little pricier than other hotels in the area. Walk across and over the street via foot bridge to Tower of Belem etc., close to other sites as well. Possibly one of the best breakfasts we had in Portugal, especially good coffee. Lots of restaurants within short walking distance. Parking on site as well.
Nothing really to complain about; just hopefully the construction in the area will be done soon. Too bad the restaurant is in an obscure location, on the lower level, doesn't give it an inviting atmosphere; the bar/lounge upstairs much more appealing, and you can order off the menu. Staff somewhat aloof, but helpful nonetheless.
Pool and Roman ruins. Breakfast was amazing.
Should have emailed about the construction.
Location nice hotel. So close to Belem Tower.
Light switches get a little bit tricky. But I get the hang of it after a few tries.
Very helpful staff and excellent position. Only one gripe, and that is minor.
Everything excellent but could be improved with non slip floor and grab rail in shower (we are not getting any younger!!!).
Very good breakfast. Rooms are very clean and well presented. Staff always there to help out. Both pools are really good. The outdoor pool can be very cold though!
Pool tempature.
location , pool area , view from room and dining on the terrace overlooking the water. Our room ( 705 ) was fabulous and the views brilliant.
Nothing we did not like obviously there is some damage from the storm last year in the area which is carpeted leading to the pool.
Fantastic location. Friendly staff and great facilities.
Perfect
Everything incredible
An exceptional hotel in all aspects. From Roman ruins to a stunning small 5* hotel with superb service, the journey has been fascinating. Located almost in front of the Belém tower, it offers easy access to Lisbon.
Beautiful hotel with all details provided by competent staff and kitchen. Decor is modern with traditional roots.
Nothing!
Beautiful hotel near the river. Gorgeous rooms! Unbelievably great, professional and friendly staff who could not be more helpful to our large group of Americans. The buffet each morning was great as was dinner every night out on the patio where we enjoyed the evening fresh air and rehashed our days.
Conveniently located to visit the center of Lisbon and to catch the train to Cascais. The parking is for free and secure, the breakfast was excellent as well the spa with a fantastic swimming pool. The hotel offers a lot of services and the bar is a great place to chill out.
The hotel is beautiful and the location is perfect. The bed is excellent as well as breakfast & the dinner at the hotel.
We stayed 3 nights, we had brought only shampoo and as it is 5 stars we were expecting to get shower gel everyday...not the case we had to ask for it 2 days in a row. The spa also had to ask for appointment 4 times although was empty no service was provided! I was a bit confused...why do you have a SPA then for? And very bad Wifi connection
Outstanding decoration. Pleasant in each detail. Artsy, not overwhelming.
Air conditioning noisy and limited efficiency.
beautifull hotel in a good location, staff very helpfull, confortable room
unfortunately the road and building works around it made it a bit noisy during the day
Location is perfect. Common areas are beautiful. Good staff, especially at front desk.
The rooms are old. Stains on the carpets, walls, furniture. Overall, a bit tired. Staff fantastic but the whole place is a bit stuffy.
The decoration, the details, the size of the room and bed, the pool is sheilded from wind, free parking, very good location in Belem, great breakfast and lunch menu.
The hairdryer was weak.
Absolutely beautiful with all the 5 star amenities.decorated in beautiful art work and tiles.
The room we had was very small without a view and no decorations on the white walls. It was too small for 2 people. However we managed because we spent most of our time on our computers in their lovely sitting rooms. Despite this I would definitely go back there again.
everything
Everything was great
Not spotless for a 5 star, a few broken things inside the room ( light switch )
Very helpful staff, fantastic location. Breakfasts lovely!
Spa treatments were a little underwhelming
Breakfast was very good. We sat outdoors which was nice. We had a very early flight to catch and the staff sent us off with delightful breakfast boxes.
Staff were excellent. Professional highly educated,, working extremely long hours and not paid enough for the level of care and attention they offered to all guests.
Very good location, close to everything. Excellent and friendly staff. Nice pool. Room was not very big, but functional and with a good bed. Very nice bathroom. Delicious breakfast with outside seating.
We loved the complimentary breakfast, the staff, the public rooms, and the ease and frequency of public transport 1 block away. Also, they gave us lots of little complimentary “extras”... free bottle of wine with dinner, discounted spa services during “happy hour,” free welcome drink, etc.
Can’t really think of anything.
Charming building with beautiful azulejo panels and original walls / ceiling. Very close to attractions in Belém district and not far from Lisboa downtown. Helpful and solicit staff. Large and comfortable shower, separated from toilet seat. Nice breakfast.
Gym equipment is not good. Lighting in the room is confusing. The air conditioning system in the room makes your skin/hair get really dry. Lisboa downtown is not close by walking distance, but we knew this in advance. When trying ti open bed sheets, I accidentally lifted the mattress protector and found a hair there. Not a deal breaker, as the rest of the cleaning was fine and cleaning staff was polite, but raises yellow flag to management.
I liked the location, staff was very polite, design was pleasant like you would expect but......
When you see a 4 star hotel you would expect more than this: -Breakfast was really bad, if you go to a supermarket across the street you will find better pastry, not to mention that in nine days nothing changed at all. -Coffee is really bad if you order it from staff during breakfast. There is luckily a coffee machine, but it is still like a coffee from your car service, nothing special. Coffee in the room is charged 2 euro per peace, or something like that (nespresso). -Inside pool was really shallow, outside one is deeper but not so big. You also need to pay 5 euros for a swimming cap for the inside one, if you do not have one of course. This cap is not from the material you would expect, it is so bad that they should give it for free. Around the pool, for me at least, it was extremely slippery. -If you suffer from allergies, you will be disappointed to know that in every room there is a carpet. Plus considering that in Lisbon weather is hot and moist, carpets are the worst combo. The smell in our room on the second floor and the corridors is unpleasant at most. - Furniture in the room was old and chipped. Door from the closet didn't want to close, we asked them to fix it they didn't. In the end we learned a trick how to close the door. I was asking myself the whole time i was there how was it possible for this hotel to have such a high score on booking. How? I can not recommend this hotel. For the prices that they have this is unacceptable!
Bed was fabulous, room and hotel spotless, decor throughout is beautiful. Great location. Some staff were particularly helpful.. Karla and Marguerita in the spa, Tiago in the bar was excellent and Marcos on reception was very friendly and helpful
Breakfast buffet is not 5 star, very little choice of fruit, would have loved some berries and nicer granola, more options at the cheese counter, may some tomatoes etc. we had our tea served in milk jugs on one morning!! But most of all we brought some guests to the bar for lunch, there were 8 of us and it too 1.5 hours before we got our food. I don’t know why the lone waitress could not have called some more staff to help, there seemed to be plenty of staff in hotel and we were the only guests in the bar!! We were very embarrassed. We only met a manager when we were checking out, otherwise there were lots of very young and very nervous staff, especially at reception. I know that they are probably in training but they should be still thought to acknowledge guests and tell them that their colleagues will attend to them as soon as possible
Great spa facilities, pools, bed in the room was great!
Well for a 5 star hotel a few things were a bit annoying. Check in they didn’t really explain anything about the hotel, breakfast times etc. They gave me the room key card, I went up to the second floor and twice it didn’t work, had to go back down. Then i was charged 12 euros for 2 waters which is ridiculous!! I believe that it was wrong because there was food on the bill and I never ordered food. The hotel itself is huge, with great facilities but directions within the hotel is quite confusing. The communication in general was very confusing. One last thing, the lights switches should have some kind of label or something. It was so confusing you don’t know what light is corresponded to which room.
The staff were very friendly and attentive. The breakfast was delicious, and there was plenty to choose from. Excellent spa facilities! Valet parking service included!!
- The staff was excellent in every detail - The comfort of the bed - Inside pool is beautiful - Caribbean Rain Storm simulator shower - The breakfast was fabulous
- To use the jacuzzi you need to pay 35€ per person - The room was very hot all the time even with the air con turned on - The number of chairs in both pools was too little for the amount of guests in high season
This wasn't my first stay in the hotel and will not be the last, definitely. This is a beautiful place with an ancient charm. Located in the historical Belem, far from the noise, which gives you the possibility to relax, but with very good public transport connections that make travelling around the city easy. The facilities of the hotel are superb, great outdor swimming pool and delicious breakfast. The staff is always friendly and helpful.
Not the cheapest place to stay, but totally worth it. A building site nearby is sometimes noisy in the mornings :/
Beautiful hotel . So close to everything in Belem region
Everything great . Room , pool , food , staff all excellent
Location for music festival was great, staff were more than helpful and rooms were very clean and comfortable.
This was the second time that I have been here and due to it being busier on this occasion, there were issues. The breakfast buffet plates had grease on more than just one plate, and it took a few plates to get a clean item. Some tables were not ready for service, still had plates from earlier residents, could have been cleared for re-use quicker.
Staff very nice/helpful, convenient location for festival
Room was a little tired. Some non-functioning outlets, air-con not working well, uncomfortable mattress (padded with a duvet), duvet cover torn.
Location and pool
Breakfast poor as a double stars. Extra bed charge
Breakfast was a nice buffet. "Orange juice" seemed to be Tang, however. We were offered a welcome glass of port (entry level, according to the waiter). We were offered a free bottle of wine if we at in the restaurant. There is a nice pool.
We arrived in Lisbon early on a cruise. We had let the hotel know this in advance in case our room could be ready a little sooner. At 10:00 we arrived and the staff happily began the check-in and stored our bags. They provided a map and gave us information. They said check-in is officially 3, but would try to have our room earlier. Great! We set out to see some sights and have lunch. We returned at 2. The room was not ready- 3 is check-in time. We went out again and returned at 2:50. Still no room. As we sat in the lobby 2 people came in and were shown to their rooms. At 3:05 we went to the desk. Our room was still not ready- after their check-in time. One person told us "this is not our problem". His English was not great and I think he meant that they at the desk were not the ones responsible, but his comment did not help. It is clear that no attempt was made to prepare a room for us even by their own designated time. When we were shown up to the room at about 3:10-3:15 there was no sign of housekeeping anywhere on the entire floor. This was just poor service.
Excellent breakfast and happy helpful efficient staff
Room may have been bigger and marble floors could be slippery
Big, cozy and clean room
the staff was a bit junior for a 5star hotel. I didn't like how the reservation manager approached me over the phone because of a deposit I "should" have done. I reserved on booking w/ payment on the hotel and I suddenly almost got my room canceled. Not expecting this on a 5star hotel.
The hotel's location is perfect - just a few minutes away from the Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery and Pasteis de Belem bakery. Excellent breakfast in a nice surrounding, very nice spa, comfortable bed and nice bathrooms.
It's a shame that you are not allowed into the indoor swimming pool unless you have a swimming cap, and the spa does not offer complimentary swimming caps.
Breakfast was great! Location was great! The room was big, bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. We were also given a bottle of free sparkling wine one night which was a lovely surprise!
Spa closes at 8pm, opens at 10am, meant that there was no opportunity for us to use the facilities as we were exploring the city - should be open until 10pm given no children allowed anyway. Had to wear swimming caps in the spa, these are charged at 5EUR each. No iron/ironing board or tea facilities in room.
The grounds were very beautiful and the staff was extra friendly and helpful.
The jacuzzi in the spa cost an extra 35 euros to get into, which seemed excessive.
Great general manager who responded to my dissatisfaction with great aplomb.
Very comfortable bed Excellent staff Location - great for running along the river early in the morning
The clothes hangers in the wardrobe! Please change them ASAP - people who stay in this hotel would never want to take the hangers! Also, the indoor pool opens far too late in the morning. People who have early meetings would enjoy using it first thing!
Breakfast, spa area, pool area, decoration, welcome drink
Sauna and Turkish bath were not hot in the morning opening hours. Disposable plastic cups for water are not necessary. Need a hair cap for the indoor pool
Lovely hotel, perfectly situated in Belém. Facilities, pool & spa were great after days sight seeing. Wonderful breakfast.
Beautiful architecture and great interior design. The spa is 2nd to none
Stayed here the first night of our honeymoon after a long day of travel from California. It was perfect! Comfortable, peaceful, amazing breakfast, great location, excellent staff. The indoor pool and spa amenities were a great way to unwind after travel and to keep ourselves awake to get on the correct time zone. Easy walking distance to local eateries. Definitely recommend and thanks for making our visit a lovely one!
Very friendly and professional service minded staffs throughout the hotel. Amenities were great including showers and outdoor pool. Location is a bit distant from the middle of the city but you can get anywhere with Uber under €10. I would highly recommend this hotel and I’m going to stay again. Muito obrigado!
Gym is a little outdated. More machines and weights would be great. Also it can be a little noise at night due to the trams operating until late.
Everything
Nothing
All personell, from reception to waiter at the bar and cleaning service were all very accomodating and servicemindet and effective. As the first room (#5) not could open any window, we were moved the day after to room #3, which was much, much better and lighter, even with a small terrace with table and two chairs....:-) Thank you to the night receptionist and to the receptionist the day after ! Good breakfast as well...! Nice pool and area around...!
However, we might mention that the service in the breakfast room needs some training, especially the younger, perhaps yet untrained personnel, whereas you could easily see when there were trained waiters at duty & available, everything went smoother and less confusing. Also, some of the facilities in the rooms did not quite match a five ***** hotel; If we wanted to keep the towels to the day after, there were not proper hangers with sufficient space to dry the wet towels. In both rooms, washbasin/sink was placed onto wooden tables that could not tolerate water splashing outside the sink; the wooden table around the sink and water tap was swollen up and porous, destroying the beautiful wooden table.
The recepcionist (sir around 30 year old) is one of the most professional workers that I have met in this sector
Beautiful building with plenty of character. We were lucky enough to stay in the Governador’s suite which was absolutely incredible. A huge four poster bed, freestanding bath and views of Belem tower. Special touches from the staff as it was my birthday: a bottle of bubbly and some little cakes made it extra special. The staff were exceptionally helpful and attentive. Particularly the front desk staff, Teresa and her colleagues (not sure of other names?) were simply amazing and had lots of recommendations for us. Great pool and the spa was very peaceful and relaxing.
Breakfast was a fantastic selection but on our second morning, they seemed very understaffed. We had to ask someone to come and clear a table so that we could sit down and quite a lot of the food needed restocking. This was just a small blip in what was otherwise a perfect stay.
Loved everything! Front desk staff were great, Fabio at breakfast time was phenomenal and Luis at dinner was the best!
Everything
restaurant, bar no atmosphere.
Everything was perfect. In an historic area but away from night time bustle of central Lisbon. Such a lovely building.
The staff noticed during check-in that my birthday was during the stay, and sent me a slice of cake as a gift. Nice touch!
Location near Torre de Belem and Fondation Champalimaud. Nice feeling. Excellent renewed Old Governors Palace.
nothing
Spacious room with comfortable bed. Nespresso coffee machine in the room. Very tasty breakfast. Beautifully decorated common spaces with plenty of indoor and outdoor sitting. Helpful and kind staff, everyone speaking English. If you want to be around Belem area, this hotel is highly recommended.
Tricky switches, not easy to get the lighting right in the part of the apartment one actually needs.
The rooms were excellent and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and the pools and spa were luxurious. I really enjoyed the boutique ambiance of the whole property
Valet parking is free and car on property. Beautiful indoor and outdoor pool. Wonderful breakfast with indoor or outdoor setting. Very close to the sites of Belem...can see the tower from the terrace. Stunning tile and woodwork restoration of ancient palace
