- Carpets haven't been washed in years (so the ground is covered in the oils left by others feet) - Rooms are incredibly small - Bad water pressure - Sink didn't drain well - Paint is chipping - Water randomly leaked in the middle of the night - Access to the hotel meant crossing a bridge between the newly updated Monterey hotel and the historic building. - Pillow cases smelled of perfume from a past guest.

Location, location, location! Close to fisherman’s wharf, on a Main Street with multiple food options. Easy to walk the dog. Only thing missing was AC, the room was a bit stuffy, even with both windows open and a fan (provided in the room) going.

Pros:The staff were SO amazing! They were helpful and kind and their customer service was just so outstanding! The lobby was very pretty and the spa and other facilities were absolutely perfect! The locationn was nice; five minutes from he wharf and downtown. I’ve never been that close before so it was nice.
Cons:The fan on the ceiling so loud I couldn’t sleep and too hot to turn off. The room smelled very bad and nothing helped. It was very very small for the price. The bed was incredibly hard. The socket in the bathroom didn’t work so I had to find an alternate one and all the others were awkwardly placed so it was hard to get ready in the morning. I was beside the stairs and I listened to loud noisy people run up and down them all night, especially children. My phone didn’t work the first night either. The loud fan also only had two setting apparently even th it clearly had more but only low and high worked. High nearly had it flying off the ceiling and low did nothing. It was very hot in the room; they even put a fan in the hallway on the second floor. I’ve stayed at cheaper hotels with larger rooms and more comfortable beds; the price, I think, is due to location.

Cons:They in the process of adding more room. But when they put you in the "historic" part of the hotel, it seems ancient. We were put above a cafe, very noise until 10:30.

Pros:Beautiful Downtown, close to Fisherman's Wharf, and well-preserved and maintained building and rooms. Rooms are older and bathroom fixtures & layout could use updating, but the furnishings are antique, the bed was comfy, and the room was clean and neat throughout, and the place was quiet. It is located conveniently close to many differing restaurants, and of course the real touristy hotspots are only a few blocks away. Bring your walking shoes!
Cons:So the closest parking they refer you to is 4-blocks away and there is no guarantee that you'll park closer even at check-in as they have no "dedicated" on-street parking/loading nearby. There are stairs everywhere, so even if you ride the elevator up, once you get to your floor it's the old-fashioned "wandering" hotel with weirdly set up hallways and you go out of one building into others, and there are stairs everywhere! Only 3-5 stairs but railings are only on one side if at all, and there's no forewarning of that fact.

Pros:The hotel had an excellent location only a short walk from Monterey Bay and the wharf. Although a bit shabby, the hotel has a charming feel. The staff was helpful and friendly.
Cons:Both the room and bathroom were uncomfortably small. Other than the bed, there was only one small uncomfortable wooden chair to sit on. No microwave or refrigerator was provided. The worst problem was the noise, both day and night, which made it impossible to get a good night's sleep. Between the trash trucks, the squawking sea gulls, the late night party goers, and street construction peace was not to be had. And, because the room was not air conditioned, the windows could not be closed.
